Does anyone know if any recruits are scheduled to visit campus in the near future?
The reason I ask is because campus is BEAUTIFUL right now. The weather is perfect, flowers are blooming all over the place, people are laying out on the lawn everywhere or playing sports in any open space. I know I'm biased, but I dont see how any recruit could NOT fall in love with the Georgetown campus right now.
I've been casually looking through the message boards of a couple other teams, and it seems like they're anxiously awaiting the announcements of some of their 2006 recruits. Are we? I mean I know we've offered at least a few point guards and have high interest in some wings and post players, but I also know there is some ambiguity around just how many scholarships we'll even have. But it seems like some of the 2006 recruits announce during May-- if so, will any be visiting in the near future?
And one more question about campus visits.... can we as students do anything to try to help convince anyone to come here? I mean, can we organize anything to show any of these guys that we know who they are and we want them to be Hoyas? Or are there any NCAA rules regarding this?

yeah, like when darnell jefferson went to visit ESU...
but don't get our cheerleaders, that would repel most recruits - get some of the hot undergrads that frequent gtown bars...

Just walk along the path across Healy/Copley lawns, Shimmy. As the days get longer, the clothes get shorter.

a lot of universities of programs where regular students show potential athletes around campus. however if i remember correctly the NCAA just shot that down in the fall. so it might not be possible. i think it was part of the same voting about the flying distances and picking kids up in limos and having jerseys printed with their name on it when they come to visit.
it was a lot of recruiting stuff.

That's one of the things I miss the most about college. Women in offices definitely don't abide by longer days, shorter clothing (and looking around, perhaps thats a good thing).
The first warm day in spring, especially if its right after spring break when girls want to show off their tans, was always among my favorite days of the year.

Last year I had a prospective football player in a GAAP Icebreaker group. It was a great day, he was a nice kid but he ended up going to Penn. I love georgetown to death, I have often told people I am going to graduate, work and live in the area. However, I am realistic enough to know that GU is not that pretty when one visits. I didn't like my tours (all three of them). Georgetown is just not pretty enough on first sight. Sure the flowers might help but otherwise, for some unknown reason, tours do not help Georgetown at all.

Theres not a ton of open space/grassland, but right now everythings looking excellent IMHO. Everything is blooming, and so theres a lot of color. As mentioned, the scantily clad females make everything look a lot nicer too . And on the subject of regular students helping to recruit... what Im sort of getting at is... This year 007 and crew hung up all sorts of banners before the NIT, they hung banners to try to get Bowman to stay one more year.... If we learn when the recruits are visiting, can we organize something like that for them? I mean, could I theoretically hang a banner out of my window that says "We want you, John Doe!" and encourage a couple hundred of my friends to do the same? ;D Or would that not be allowed? If stuff along those lines is allowed, its even more reason to get Hoya Blue organized.

yeah i echo SFHoya's sentiments - I mean that front entrance at 37th and O opening onto the lawns is among the most captivating of college vistas...now the backside of campus perhaps leaves something to be desired...but hey, you can't have it all...
growing up in the DC area, i never even went onto GTown's campus, but after one visit, i knew it was the place for me....
we are asking for a removal to 37th and O Board...

70% of students attending a GAAP Open House last year chose to come to Georgetown (the overall yield rate was below 50%). More than half of the current freshman class attended an Open House. The campus may not sell itself to everyone, but clearly visiting campus has a positive impact on some people, particularly people from the northeast who have not really seen spring yet.

Personally, once I saw New South, I was sold! Darnell only sealed the deal.
Seriously though, I don't know anyone who doesn't think the front lawn is beautiful, even more so in the spring with the flowers blooming and the wonderful DC weather. And, yes, the sunbathing coeds doesn't hurt the ambience one bit.
Of all the truly urban campuses I've visited, I think that's as nice a patch of campus as I've seen - Columbia is very pretty, but there's lot more marble than grass, Penn doesn't really have a comparable spot, IMO.

I will say that it wasn't just the vistas. Being a left coaster, I did my 5 east coast schools at once: MIT, BU (safety), Harvard, Penn and Georgetown. Georgetown was the last.
But it was the only one where people were out and about having fun. The lawns at Harvard were desolate; at MIT everyone walked around face-down; Penn has no real common space and was more of a city campus; BU was a backup school.
But at GU everyone was out, playing frisbee, music. We had folks chatting with our tour guide. It was nice to see college students having fun.

I heard a lot of positive feedback through acquaintances about this year's GAAP Program. I am not surprised by these numbers. I chose to attend GU based on a campus visit, although I never attended GAAP because of a last minute emergency at the time that I was scheduled to attend. My short visit to GU compared favorably to my campus visits at UMICH and Cornell. An alumni gathering of UChicago folk was enough to seal that school's fate.

We'll organize these things for next year when Hoya Blue really begins to function effectively. Plus, several of us have subscriptions to HoyaReport and so we are more often aware of visits and stuff like that.

I say we go door to door and get a number of people to hang the signs out of there windows.... Even if the people dont care, most of them likely wont mind hanging the sign in/out of their windows if its for the basketball team... We'd just need to have to find a way to mass produce the signs and then work on getting people to put them up. We can do it! We'll work on this once the new version of HB gets going though. BTW, have they announced the date of the election? Oh and one more thing 007, do you know if Macklin or the 3 points we offered will be visiting between now and the end of the semester? This may be "premium" info, but if they or anyone else is coming in the near future, maybe we can get something together... Seems a shame to not go all out simply because the HB elections are still up in the air.

I visited the hilltop as a high school senior this same week many years ago, and I had just taken the train down from Philly, and the contrast between GU and Penn couldn't have been more different. The weather was amazing, but Penn's campus was so crowded that I literally couldn't find an open patch of grass anywhere. I got to GU and saw people studying on the lawn, playing frisbee, volleyball, etc. and was sold instantly. For a city campus, I think GU shows off really well.

yeah, like when darnell jefferson went to visit ESU... Ahhh, The Program. Quality cinema. I think perhaps we should really pull out all the stops and lay out a recruiting trip like when Jesus Shuttlesworth visited BSU, but after the Colorado debacle, maybe that's not such a great idea. Really, I think Esh's recruiting problems related to the closure of Champs, but that's a hypothesis I'm still just kicking around. Honestly, I think the Hilltop's campus is as attractive as any. Obviously, what one expects in a campus is highly subjective, but Main Campus certainly was when I was there in the early 90s (just don't take anyone across town to the Law School, although that's vastly improved in the last three years, too). Maybe the new construction on the west and south ends of campus have given it a bit of a claustrophic feel, but I doubt it (from what I've experienced, anyway). Ultimately, I think that if you take a recruit up to a late afternoon party on Village A rooftop, and hit a few partys on the way down to M St., the recruit will likely leave with a positive impression of Georgetown's campus environment.

It doesn't hurt that there is serious buzz around campus about the bball team, especially the freshman. So when the freshman take a recruit out to parties, people are going up to them, telling them how excited they are, how much they enjoyed the season, etc.... And by people, I mean, other people, b/c I don't have the guts
