Wow how are we not even ranked in their poll! I know it doesn't matter because we will be ranked in the top 10 after the first week of the season and Preseason Polls aren't worth the paper they are written on. It seems to me that we are being slept on by a lot of these preseason polls. Will make the climb to the top even sweeter!!! Picked to finish 4th in the BE Yeah I just saw that. Athlon sports loss all credibility with their prediction of 4th Place finish. If we come in 4th place in the BE, this season will be a huge disappointment. Call me overly optimistic but I think we will win the BE by at least 2 games. My top 4 are: 1st- Hoyas 2nd-Butler 3rd- Villanova 4th- Xavier

harrumph... And this impacts you how? Just humorously (for most people) and playfully commenting on the usual far-ranging discussions that dominate the board come August and September. Hey no worries. Unlike some I don't take things too seriously here. Plus, being called dumb by KC and disparaged for having an opinion (that isn't his) is a right of passage on Hoyatalk... I feel like I've finally arrived.

To make it worse they gave us as an 11 seed losing to Michigan in the first round. That is grossly under rating the Hoyas this year. They also really went out on a limb and chose a final of UK vs Duke with UK winning. Pretty worthless magazine. The article that was posted a while back was much more thorough than anything in that magazine.

Almost as important as how we do is how the league does. This is a huge year for the BE. Gotta knock off some ranked OOC opponents. Anyone know how other BE schools OOC schedules look (too lazy to do the work myself)?

The conference did very well in the OOC schedule last season but folks only remember what you do in post season play.

You know the pundits will be all over us if the BE gets smoked in these OOC games. If BE teams knock off higher ranked OOC opponents it will put more BE teams in the top 10 in December and generate more interest in our conference games come January.

We have a lot of promise but a lot of questions. History would indicate that the statment we will shortly be in the top 10 is not realistic.

GEORGETOWN HOYAS
Freshman class is deeper than people realize The Hoyas expected Jessie Govan to be an impact big man during his first year of college basketball, but the potential roles of both Marcus Derrickson and Kaleb Johnson could be far greater than people envisioned. The 6-foot-7 Derrickson led Georgetown in scoring during the Hoyas' foreign tour in Italy last month and is an excellent rebounder who can extend the defense as a stretch power forward. Johnson meanwhile has good length at 6-6 and has already established himself as this team's best all-around defender. The lefty plays within himself on offense and knows how to probe the defense as he reads and reacts based on what the opposition is giving him. All three of these players are going to be in John Thompson III's rotation this year with Govan and Derrickson looking like eventual starters.

Could the contrast with our previous center be any greater?

#12, Paul White, 6-8, Sophomore, SF/PF, Georgetown He has displayed good vision with the ball in his hands, which can help his team score when he is on the floor. While he looks comfortable putting the ball on the floor in a straight line, he doesn't have the ball-handling skills to get to the rim or draw the defense and create open looks consistently. What he does do is find cutters or shooters spotting up across the court to catch the defense off guard, delivering an accurate pass to put his teammate in position to score. His 2.7 assists per 40 minutes pace adjusted was one of the highest ranks among small forwards in the nation. While he won't be creating off the dribble frequently, certainly not in Georgetown's offense, he has the willingness to pass and the vision necessary to see his open teammates. #5, Isaac Copeland, 6-9, Sophomore, SF/PF, Georgetown Scouts won't love Copeland's lack of length, as he measured just an average 6'9” wingspan at the Nike Skills Academy. This won't prevent him from being a NBA player but will force him to work a little harder defensively and as a finisher around the rim. His skill that has the most potential to translate to the NBA at this point is his outside shooting, which could make him a nice stretch big man at the next level. He doesn't have the most consistent or fundamental shooting stroke, at times hopping backwards on his release, but it seems to work with Copeland making 38.9% of his three point attempts last season, as well as 81% of his free throw attempts, and even showing some potential shooting off the dribble with a smooth release. Copeland moves around the arc well to find open spaces to put himself in passing lanes and he has a quick catch and release that helps him get good looks at the rim. His touch is terrific from all over the floor, leaving a lot of room for optimism regarding his ability to develop his versatility as a scorer. Very impressive. So glad he is a GU Asst. Coach. Says a lot of JT3 to have guys like Sutton buying into JT3's leadership. And, if I were a D1 prospect, or the parent of one, I'd want coaches like Kevin Sutton. Thanks for posting yaBoy.
