The front page lists games with Siena and UNC Charlotte as well. Also thought the 2k Classic had another home game component to it before we go to NYC. Siena is the home game component to the tournament. Forgot about UNC-C. That's a tough return game to play on the road. I wonder if we agreed to do it only if it was at the Bobcats' arena instead of on campus? (I don't know where the game is being played.) I believe it will be played at the bobcats arena

At least 10 (possibly 11 depending on the scheduling of the 2K Classic) regular season games against teams in the NBC Sports Too-Early Top 25, and that doesn't even include Cuse, UCon, or the BET. For reference, GU has not played against 10 ranked teams during the regular season since 1995-96. I admit it is unlikely that all of those teams (Marquette, Butler, Xavier especially) will be in the Top 25 when the games are played, but this is a great scheduling job.

Just to make a list:
UMD away, UConn away, Syracuse home, 2k classic (either Duke, Wisconsin or VCU), Nova x2, Butler x2, Marquette x2, Xavier x2...
am I missing any other big games?

I don't think so, but we should get 2 games out of the 2K classic. I am hoping for both Duke and Wisconsin, but no matter what the matchups are they will be good.

Just a guess, but I think they match us up against Wisc. for the first game.

Duke just got the #2 recruit (a PG) in the class of 2016 to reclassify to 2015, and they are still in the hunt for a top 15 big guy, so while they likely won't be as good as this year, they could be stronger than it initially seemed when Okafor/Jones/Winslow decided to leave.
I think it would be a great game to draw in the 2K Classic.

I think it would be a great game to draw in the 2K Classic. Of the three potential matchups, isn't Duke/Wisconsin the one that is most appealing for ticket sales and for the network? It may not truly be the "best" matchup (in terms of the two best teams -- although it frankly might be), but it is, I think, the one that is most easily promoted, especially through a "national championship rematch" soundbite. So, given that, I'd assume they'd want to ensure that matchup actually occurs, and thus would have it be a semifinal game, leaving us with VCU. If I had my druthers, I'd want to play Duke in the first game. My guess is that they'll be somewhat overrated at that point given their championship and youth, beating them is always a great scalp, and our offense just tends to work well against their traditional pressure defense.

If you read Ben Standing's post today it sounds as though we'll have the Maryland game just a few days before the 2K Classic games in NYC. That means a 3-game November stretch against MD, and then 2 of VCU/Duke/Wisconsin. Intense.

I am stunned at the schedule to start next season
MD then 2 of Duke/Wisconsin/VCU.
Have we ever had a stretch like that outside of the NCAA?
It is pretty compelling.

The season is likely to start the week before (Nov. 13-14). A guess would be that the prelim game of the 2K Series (Siena) will be the opener before the Gavitt Games and the 2K.

Over the years one thing that JTIII has had is preseason success. Except for last year, the 4 previous seasons has yielded a boost in the ranking after preseason.
Just wonder why hasn't the preseason success translated to post season success.

Just wonder why hasn't the preseason success translated to post season success. That's a good question. Wonder why it hasn't come up before. I really hope someone starts a new thread so we can get into the nitty-gritty of this new topic. However, I must say that it's great to see it come up in this thread, since it is clearly on-topic.

I think it is great we are getting invited to premier tournaments the past couple of years. A testimony not only to III's scheduling acumen but I believe also to the high regard other coaches have for him.
