Hasnt been made official yet, but look for him to start taking classes this summer. I got an extremely close source who said the decision has already been made. So...unoffically, welcome Patrick Ewing Jr. to Georgetown.
Edited. Please avoid speculative posts. There is never a "done deal" until GU says so.--Admin.

two negatives are that he cant help the team during games next year, and from what i remember of him at iu...hes not that great

Trust me on this one more than you've trusted anyone in your life...this is defnitely true. I dont wanna burn bridges and throw a name out there...but judging from who I heard this from, Id bet my house on it. Apparently he had a great time on his visit.

They tried to make him a Utility power forward to go and be the "garbage man" and block shots and rebound. Thats not his game. If you've seen play in depth in the HS all star games or in HS or AAU, you'd compare his game to a more athletic, less capable shooter version of Brandon Bowman. He's a tweener big man. He isnt a 4 nor is a 3. He sort of just plays IN between there.

I don't doubt he had a great time during his visit... after all, it is Georgetown!
Sorry if I seem skeptical... you must understand, I'm a Hoya fan. Nothing is ever true until Shapland leaks it.

If he could fill in in '07 as a solid contributor off the bench this would be good. Right now we are bringing in Amadou. I know Bowman will be gone by then but to have a rotation of Green, Hibbert, Spann, Egerson & Ewing for our bigs isn't bad. You throw in some minutes from Cornelio and suddenly we have some depth at that position.
You then have Crawford, Sapp, Thornton & wallace plus some recruits and we start to look pretty damn solid. I would love to be able to go ten deep with solid talent top to bottom.

Sounds good. So he sits out next year, but plays the year after that, correct? So he's ineligible for 05-06, but plays '06-'07?
I didnt really follow him enough at Indiana to know how good of an addition this is, so I'll trust the opinions of others who have followed his game more closely. However, I think a competent transfer is a good thing. He doesn't count as a scholarship player this year, right? So Jon or DJ still gets the scholarship? If so, its a good thing because PE Jr. will only take 2 years of scholarship, and he's going to get an entire year of practice in the system before he ever even puts a jersey on. He'll be a very mature player and he'll know the system well. Since hes certainly a capable athlete, I think it bodes well for us.

Point being, he and his confidants agree that Ewing had some talent, but was lost in the IU system during his time there. Hopefully III will help him find his way. Here's my question/suggestion: can we get him to play the high post in the PrinceTown sets? This could free up Green to do a lot more, allow Roy to work down low, and so forth. Of course its about 18 months away from when we can start to even THINK about him in the BLUE AND GRAY (hopefully Nike doesn't screw us), but food for thought...

Also, does PE JR count as a schollie next season? If so, then that means both DO and Wallace are off scholarship. If not, look to the year he does play. If Wallace IS on schollie, and if nobody leaves early or transfers, that'll leave us with room for 1 freshman in the 2006-2007 season.
Hmmmm....

I thought it sounded like Wallace got the schollie & DJ is done.

This is great. For all he did for the program, Patrick Ewing's son belongs on the Hoyas, I don't care if he's 4 feet tall.
A Ewing and a Thompson together at Georgetown. Seems like old times.
By the way, the last time both families were represented on the bench, we went to three out of four Final Fours. Let's hope for some of the old magic.

Why would he need a scholarship? His dad used to drive to campus for visits in a biggest, black Mercedes. I say give the scholarship to a talented freshman recruit and have PJr walk on. To have one scholarship to offer in the 06-07 season is not a good thing.
BTW, is this all a sign that the Ewings did not like the idea of Jr. going to play at GU under Esh?

Thanks PR - I was wondering if Ewing was doing okay financially, but if you saw him in a big black Mercedes, I guess he is flush.

BTW, is this all a sign that the Ewings did not like the idea of Jr. going to play at GU under Esh? No, it isn't. PE Sr. was trying to get Jr. to go to GU. Jr's mom was influential in getting him to go elsewhere. Sr. had to be convinced. And we don't really know if Jr. will count as a schollie or not. 1. We don't know if he is being given a schollie. 2. Even if he isn't, since he was once recruited by GU, he may still be a "counter" regardless. The NCAA published rules that I have seen are a bit unclear about that. But, if he does not get a schollie the first year -- and obviously can't play the first year due to the transfer hold back -- perhaps he won't count... until he becomes eligible to play in his second GU year. Confused? Call Myles Brand.

Here's a look at Jr's stats from the last couple years and a look forward (way, please ignore my projection) at what might be possible. I predicted that we would see roughly a 10% spike in his production in the 2006-2007 season. This would be due primarily to him being stronger and having an entire year of coaching under JTIII. Then I projected (I know, deadly word these days) a 25% increase for his senior season, 2007-2008. I know that is a drastic increase, but not unheard of. Sweets saw a similar jump between soph and junior seasons, and while many of you will cry foul or ridiculous optimism, remember that Jr played completely out of position and was misutilized at Indiana. Coming out of high school he had a respectable outside game and was decent off the dribble. Those skills were pretty much ignored at Indiana where he was used as a defensive stopper and rebounding specialist. Combine a shift to his more natural position with the even distribution and better shot opportunities of JTIII's offense and I think these projections are a decent idea of what is possible with Jr. YEAR | | GAMES | | MIN | | PTS | | REB | | AST | | TO | | A/T | | STL | | BLK | | PF | | FG% | | FT% | | 3P% | | PPS | 2005 | | 29 | | 16.0 | | 4.0 | | 3.8 | | 0.8 | | 1.1 | | 1/1.5 | | 0.7 | | 0.6 | | 2.6 | | .477 | | .574 | | .333 | | 1.33 | 2004 | | 29 | | 11.8 | | 2.8 | | 3.6 | | 0.2 | | 0.9 | | 1/4 | | 0.5 | | 0.6 | | 2.3 | | .525 | | .481 | | 1.000 | | 1.28 |

"Some said we surprised some people earlier this year. I don't want that. I want people to see us coming, know we're coming, and us to beat 'em anyways. But don't worry, the winning is coming."
-III, last night
"I was sitting with Jeff (Green) at the BE Media Day waiting for Jeff's BE ROY award, and I whispered to Jeff, 'Don't get too tied with with this award; we have one on Saturday we have to win (BET Title).' Jeff leaned back and said, 'And one 3 weeks later? Don't forget about the one 3 weeks later', and he meant the National Championship. And I thought to myself, 'He gets it. He gets it.'"

Well, since I actually saw PE2 (wow, JTIII and PE2 ;D !) play before and not a projected, hocus-pocus image of him playing, I would say he is raw player that really needs some work on fundamentals, offensively. That is where JTIII came come in and help him with. He is a live body and tenacious. He runs the floor well, rebounds, and is active defensively. He has that fire in the belly that I think will be good for this team. Having a year under JTIII where he can just focus on improving will be tremendous for him and the team. He is the type of inside player we need right now, but we will have to wait a year, IF IT IS TRUE.
