I am sincerely looking forward to the next 3 1/2 years of Tre Campbell.

Heck of an assist by our shooting guard on that Campbell three. Cope with the 3, Tre with the 3. Love those frosh in the corner...

DAMN, I missed all of the overtime, emergency. Glad to hear we won. We beat them and the refs. We can and need to beat all the games leading up to the big rematch at Nova. We win those games and we end up inside the top 15-20. GUTTY win, just like old times. This team is getting mentally and physically tougher right before our eyes. If Cope continues to play the way he is right now, next year will be his last. The NBA will throw big $$$ at that kid. I hope he hits the weights this off season.

I think this post sums it up for me: That was the best game that Marquette has played all year and probably the best they will play all year. Despite that, despite the wild atmosphere and despite being shorthanded our guys really showed something today. This team has learned to trust each other and they have confidence that someone is going to make a play when it is needed. Lots of basketball still to play but I like where they are now and where they are headed. I was forced to watch the game on my iPhone (can't wait to see the data charges since I had no WiFi. Ugh.). While there were definitely some defensive lapses and missed rotations again, it seemed like the perimeter D was not all that bad and Marquette was just ridiculous from outside (for example, their two shot at the end of regulation were actually covered pretty well. They just managed to hit the shots). From many of the comments, it appears that I am in the minority on that though. Was the D that bad? Most of the time, no. Our defensive intensity the last two games has, for the most part, been really high. And credit the players for adjusting to new rotations for huge chunks. Only time that our D sucked is when we made some good runs, and it was like we suddenly felt we had the game put away. Coach needs to show them game footage of how much our intensity and attention to details (heck, even playing fundamental, basic D) totally disappeared for some pivotal stretches. Part of the maturation process for this team is to not have those defensive brain farts. It didn't have to be this close. Need to keep our foot on their throats.

It's getting tough to figure out who the "bench" guys are now. And that's a great thing. You are damn right on both points!

It tells you something about this team right now that Josh Smith had 18 pts, 15 rbs, played 31 min... and we are all taking about our freshmen. Great stats from Josh are sort of becoming ordinary.
This is the Josh Smith that we all dreamed of. If he can keep this up we will continue to be matchup nightmares for just about every team in the country.

Most important factor for me, aside from the win, was that Copeland was a major contributor for the third straight game. This team is built for March.

Cope with the 3, Tre with the 3. Love those frosh in the corner... It says a tremendous amount about this team that on consecutive Saturdays, at absolutely crucial moments, 2 upperclassmen did not hesitate to dish to a freshman for a huge 3. They trust each other; the "band of brothers" concept is not just a fake bravado for these guys.

This team is special, first of all. All of these guys have steely nerves. Wow! We absorbed so many body blows and still came away with the decision on all cards! That was one heck of a good bye to Milwaukee!

My thought on our D was that there were some surprisingly open shots for Marquette, both from outside and on drives to the basket. But, honestly, they were playing so well on offense today that it didn't seem to matter how good our D was against their shooting. And our D against their passing and spacing was actually pretty good for much of the game. Carlino and Wilson were incredible, give them credit.

The only time the team seemed hesitant on offense was the first possession of the game where it looked as if once more the guys were waiting for LJ to take the honor of first shot attempt. That type of aggression on offense, win or lose, is all I ask for. Keep it up. Great job by players and coaches. Don't think the second half would have been competitive if it were not for all the Hoya injuries.

Btw I feel some sort of kharma on the carlino two pointer at end of regulation. Somewhere Brandon Bowman and his size 17s are smiling and remembering that jumper against Cuse. The big wheel turns. Ha, was thinking the same thing. Was at that game in the Dome. After such a great game today would have stunk for it to end on a controversial call.

I thought anecdotally the defense was sloppy and scrambling around. I attribute that to the freshmen. Could this game have been more opposite than the one in DC?
Big big win. Let's take care of home court and struggling Creighton now and really get rolling leading into THE REMATCH.

Fun fact. Hopkin's FT% for the season increased from 54% to 62% today.
