Unless it's really an exceptional, once in a lifetime-like event, I don't think our student section should ever rush the floor.
Was it a great win? Yes. And I know it's over a top 5 team, but they were favored by a whole four points. I don't think the win was so unexpected or monumental as to warrant students rushing the floor.
Act like you've been there before.
And get off my lawn with your loud music and saggy pants.

Disagree completely. Who cares if the students and fans don't act like they've been there before? The more fun the fans are having the better the home game atmosphere will be. Rush the court for if beating the St Francis' of the world if its going to create excitement for the student fanbase. That is far, far more important that keeping up appearances with the 5% of college basketball fans that care about this stuff.
And while a win might not have been that unexpected, a 20 point win certainly was.

I always have thought this is one of the the dumbest things fans/media/coaches gripe about. In two weeks no one is going to be saying or thinking or even remembering this court rush or thinking we are any better a team or program for it. The only actual effect it has is on the fan experience and it is usually a positive one, yet people , without fail, always gripe about them. Get over it. It is only going to help us if it has any impact at all.

You can't chant "overrated" then rush the court.

Agree with POD here. Without a doubt the size of the margin contributed to the jubilation, but we are still Georgetown, not Cleveland State. Rushing the floor when we beat Duke was fine. This was unnecessary. My immediate reaction was we're rushing the floor? Really?

I was next to the student section and saw them rush the court. Note the students did and no one else. Also note that it was lead by a few and followed by a lot.
My group debated this and came to no agreement. Even if this is the best home court win we will have this year there is one more thing to consider. These undergrads don't know better. They don't have a great win. They have nothing to rally around. So I give them a pass for being dumb and stupid for rushing the court.

The end of the Butler game was as exciting as you can get but no one rushed the floor (to my knowledge) so it was the fact that we beat that unbeatable, big bad team Villanova, the class of the Big East conference. I guess you have to give credit to the Villanova program for being the Duke of our conference and right now we are Wake Forest.... just kidding.

These undergrads haven't seen a whole heck of a lot of success in the past few years. The current seniors are the only group to experience an NCAA tournament win. The juniors have the FGCU nightmare on their mind and our best, most exciting win was probably Cuse on the road that year and the sophomores got Whitt's suspension, ineligible Josh, and Jabril's broken jaw. I give them a pass.

Enthusiasm is underrated. I didn't expect the court rush, but it's not the craziest thing ever for a 20-point blowout in the biggest home game of the year.

I doubt many of them followed Georgetown before matriculating. I am totally fine with them doing ANYTHING that gets them more into the games--it's been a pretty disinterested home crowd as of late

I thought the student section brought their A game last night....Jay Wright even mentioned how tough the atmosphere was. We criticize the students for not showing up, and when they do we criticize them for being over-exuberant. If it was okay to rush the court for the syracuse game (which didn't seem to bother isaac Copeland who committed the very next morning), it was okay last night. Like someone pointed out, it was our best home game of the season and the first time in 5 years we played a team this highly ranked at home. Oh...and did I mention we spanked them!?!

While I hate to see if since it kinda implies that we are not exactly a baskteball powerhouse, I am siding with those who will give the students a pass. They haven't seen very much good bball and big wins in their time so, yeah, we haven't exactly been a bball powerhouse... Keep up the enthusiasm!
And as for not rushing the court at the Cap Center, which was brought up on the game thread. Yeah, that court was rushed. I think it was the same game that my roomate hit a half-court shot at halftime and won two free tickets to anywhere in the continental USA. Probably a Cuse game.

These undergrads haven't seen a whole heck of a lot of success in the past few years. The Georgetown senior class has seen a combined home record of 54-6. This isn't DePaul we're talking about.

That's a fair point. I guess the counter - and I haven't looked into the details to confirm - is that there haven't been many chances to beat a top 5 team while we were unranked (and we have not been ranked Top 25 all that much lately).

Thou shalt have no fun whatsoever. Since when is college a place where students make responsible decisions in the service of having a good time?
