Nova is our biggest conference rival and has been our #2 rival next to cuse for decades. any time you beat one of your two most hated rivals and they are highly regarded or there is a championship or something of importance on the line there should be the outside possibility of a court rush which is why on the whole i think, let the kids have their fun.
my main complaint was with the lame slow boil of it that others have mentioned. for having a packed house you would think the court would fill quickly but it didnt fill quickly and never really filled so it looked pretty lame for that reason alone but anything that stokes the flames of one of our best rivalries is a good thing.
I also think that a court rush should be an organic explosion of emotion, the type you get from a close and or championship win vs a rival or an opponent that most would consider way above your level. 20 point wins dont have any of that, you knew you were going to win for a while so unless it is ending UCLA's 88 game win streak then it is planned and contrived to some extent.
the only court rush i had in my 4 years was vs cuse at the Crap Centre in 1994 and we did it because it was Cuse and because it was a close game that Cuse had every chance to win but Lawrence Moten choked it away and if it happened today you all would be complaining about but it was a great moment for me and others who were there and is one of the only home games i clearly remember from 92-93 or 93-94. It didnt set the program back or hurt us with recruits but it did help get students out to other games and it was in a way a reward for the fans that were there supporting the team so complaints aside, a court rush every few years is a good thing.

My position on this is that I'm too old to have a position on this. In lieu of that, here's the history of rushing the court at the MCI/Verizon Center, based on experience/things I've heard: Feb 2000 vs. Louisville: They were unranked at the time Feb 2001 vs. Syracuse: We were #21 they were #17 Jan 2002 vs. Syracuse: We were unranked, they were #14 at the time, but fell out and later missed the NCAA Tournament. Jan 2005 vs. Notre Dame: They were unranked at the time Jan 2006 vs. Duke: They were ranked #1 and undefeated at the time March 2013 vs. Syracuse: We were #5, they were #19. This clinched the Big East title in the final BE regular season game between the two schools. However, six days later Syracuse beat us in the BET Semis in our final BE meeting period, and three weeks later Syracuse cut down the nets in Verizon after winning the East Regional. Jan 2015 vs. Villanova: We were unranked, they were #4 at the time. I think that ND game was the crazy game where Roy had a dunk at the buzzer, right? I think that was the reason for the celebration. It was back and forth in the final seconds. The Syracuse games are pretty much all about it being Syracuse. Duke is obvious, of course. Have no idea about that Louisville game. Don't remember that one at all. You are correct. In our first season trying to rebuild after the dumpster fire that was the Esherick era, we managed to knock off Notre Dame on a buzzer beating dunk by Roy after Ashanti drove the length of the floor with 5 on the clock. Well worth the court storming imo (and I was part of that one too). Also I think the fact that, as some have pointed out, the students trickled onto the court instead of a full fledged storm is in part due to some indecision on whether or not to storm. There were definitely enough kids there for a legitimate storm. My guess is a lot of them didn't see it appropriate and thus didn't storm. Leaving us with a few over exuberant kids trickling onto the floor.

I gather we have no students on this board to weigh in. I assume they are too busy posting gifs of movies made before they were born in the tedious comment threads at Casual Hoya.

You don't find the comment threads on Casual to be tedious? It is a bug of all SB Nation blogs. I fail to see how that's the fault of the site's creator.
I confess to finding the Casual cult of personality a bit odd--as evidenced again just now by your apparent offense at an innocuous comment about the absence of student posters.

Actually, several students over there have posted pretty interesting perspectives on this particular issue. Also, I'm not sure at any board that can get to 71 comments regarding whether Josh Hart intentionally hit Jabril in the head should throw too many stones about tedious threads :-P

Their articles on recruiting are very well written and the recruits read it.

I know what Snapchat is but what is a Snapchat story? I thought things sent were deleted upon viewing?
Between that and Tinder, I'm getting old :/

Part of me doesn't have a problem with it...students enjoying themselves.
Then part of me says we just freaking rushed the court for beating Villanova- look how far we have fallen.

Her argument appears to be that 1) we went to the NIT last year, and 2) wins last year over MSU and Creighton weren't as impressive as they seemed. It is a terrible argument. The reality would seem to be a group of students who don't really understand the context of this team, this year. I would never have done it, and would have vehemently argued against it, and it never, ever occurred to me watching the game that anyone would think of storming the court, again because I was in no way surprised that we won the game. But as I've said elsewhere, arena and student body passion aren't really things we can take for granted. Outsiders don't understand that, and think the school must be a basketball factory with first-class facilities and a crazy fan base where the whole school is engaged. Those of us on the inside know better.

Yeah, I actually left the game with about 2 minutes left because were kicking their ass, there was a foul every 10 seconds, and it was past my bedtime. I say all this because, at the end of the day, it's a regular season win against a team i thought we could've and kind of should beat. And, we beat them. I dont mind so much the students storming the court, but it really shouldn't have been that surprising that we won.

I think all members of the class of '68 who endured the O'Keefe/McGee era deserve to rush the court whenever they want. Of course we'd first have to remember to buy a ticket and go to the game.

Kornheiser isn't wrong. The students decided to rush because they saw (NR)Gtown over #4 Nova and it's seems like the fun thing to do. Judging by the student section in non-conference vs. Monday, that's a lot of "casual" fans doing the rushing. If it leads to more students supporting the team, earlier in the year, fantastic.
The alum can grumble about it being embarrassing (I groaned a too) but hopefully the national audience (aside from PTI) who saw the highlights on TV is thinking the same thing as the students: (NR) over #4, that math seems right for rushing the court.

Madeline Auerbach is a member of the California Horse Racing Board. Not the same one, obviously, but that's amusing.

I agree with all the older posters but come on - if you are in the student section and people start walking on to the court, are you being honest with yourself saying you wouldn't walk out on the court too? #imabitteroldfandiwouldrushthecourtgivenanyopportunify
