Yeah but the Spartans were REALLY terrible. Dez Wells was a man out there for UMCP. I wouldn't go that far. 5-14 shooting with 7 turnovers? I guess the rest of the stat line looks good but that game was a dumpster fire.

Just 7:26 into the game in Newark NJ, and St.John's/Seton Hall already have combined for as many points as Maryland/Michigan State had in the entire first half. Not much need for a half-court offense in this game so far. Very fast pace. SJU leads 18-13.

Yeah, he took over and made huge plays down the stretch. Pretty much single-handedly won the game for UMCP. That, and Michigan State sucking.

GW is looking really good in their win vs. VMI. They play great defense and have six guys who can score in multiple ways.

Seton Hall leads #15 St. John's at the half, 40-35, after an 8-0 run to close out the half. Johnnies have five players with two fouls each. If The Hall can hit foul shots better in the second half, they can win this game. Both teams are shooting well from outside, although SJU went cold late in the half. Entertaining first game for the marathon.

I really think the BE is going to be very good this year. I hope we can steal some wins on the road. Tonight would be ideal given the circumstances. Doesnt surprise me at all that SHU could beat SJU at home. Really, what are the gimme road wins in this conference, aside from maybe DePaul? I hope we bring it tonight because there arent a lot of chances.

I think every team except Marquette & Depaul has a shot at the tourney this year. In the old big east's best year, 68.75% of the teams made the NCAA the year we had 11 of 16. I think it is conceivable to have 7 make it with 6 being the most likely scenario. The boys from the men are about to be separated in conference play and I don't think any conference can boast what we have this year. I would say the Big 12 but baylor & TCU have beaten no one and they still have Texas Tech & K State. It is fair to say they are equally strong from top to bottom which is impressive for a conference that has essentially been Kansas and then everyone else.

Villanova leads Butler at the half 36-32 in Villanova PA. Nice win for Seton Hall over St. John's, 78-67. Big game for Sina with some critical three-point shots. Even without Whitehead, the Pirates are a dangerous team.

Elsewhere in GOI, #2 Duke leads Wofford, 20-15, with 7:29 to play in the first half in Durham NC. #4 Wisconsin defeated Penn State, 89-72, in Madison WI.

2:32 to play in the second half in Villanova PA, and #6 Villanova leads Butler 61-50. Bulldogs are not very good at all if the guards aren't shooting well. 11:37 to play in the first half in Radford VA, with Radford and North Carolina Asheville tied at 13-13. 15:13 to play in the second half in Durham NC, and #2 Duke leads Wofford 52-43.

Nice win for Seton Hall over St. John's, 78-67. Big game for Sina with some critical three-point shots. Even without Whitehead, the Pirates are a dangerous team. Seton Hall was very impressive beating a talented SJU team, and doing so without their best player - 5 star freshman Isaiah Whitehead. While this was an SHU home game, the Rock is in Newark, a short train ride from NYC which is how I got there. There were a lot of fans in red at the game and they made themselves known. SJU controlled the game for the first 18 minutes or so, then suddenly Sina - who had been scoreless -- decided to go on offense and scored 5 of SHU's 8-0 run to close the half. I also like their freshman big guy Delgado and fellow frosh guard Carrington. The Hall is quite good. Better than I thought. The Big East is going to be quite interesting this year. Depaul sucks and "Quette is shorthanded, but seems like everyone else has something going for them. It will be exciting! Hoyas need to "bring it" every game. If we do, we'll do quite well -- starting tonight!

Fox Sports One just reported that DePaul's Tommy Hamilton has been suspended by coach Oliver Purnell for today's game against Marquette due to a team rule violation. Does not augur well for the Blue Demons in their opener.

First, in a non-GOI, Temple defeated Connecticut, 57-53, in overtime in Hartford CT. Wonder how long before the Huskies' faithful starts criticizing Kevin Ollie. At the half in Lincoln NE, Indiana leads Nebraska 40-32. #16 Wichita State leads Drake, 16-14, with 7:51 left in the first half in Des Moines IA. North Carolina Asheville defeated Radford, 62-60, in Radford VA. Marquette leads DePaul, 53-48, with 5:08 left in the second half in Rosemont IL. #18 Oklahoma leads George Mason 57-39, with 5:12 left in the second half in Norman OK.
