So tired of Wisconsin fans right now. They are so over the top complimentary about us like we didn't own it for most of the game. Didn't feel as jobbed by the refs as last night but the over the back and goaltending is unforgivable. Trying to be positive but hard knowing we had this. Having taken in this game with JustCos, a few thoughts: 1) Wisconsin fans everywhere. Georgetown smaller, but VOCAL minority. Gtown fans have really brought it these first two days. Wisconsin fans embarrass themselves with a "Jump Around" dance which basically equates to a bunch of jiggly, pasty-white midwesterners throwing their hands in the air. 2) Josh is a load. I was highly skeptical that he would be able to D-up Kaminsky today but he did an excellent job. He has a great attitude and has really turned a corner this year. He will be big for us. 3) Paul White just knows how to play the game. His three clutch FTs at the end of the game was reminiscent of JWall's three FTs @marquette, circa 2008. LJ, on the other hand, came back down to Earth tonight. He seems to get really amped up, and is prone to some hero-ball, silly TOs. He is incredibly talented and as he learns the college game and harnesses his extraordinary talent, he's going to be am absolute star for us. 4) DSR strapped on an extra large set of cojones tonight and showed a national TV audience why he's the best in the BE. Incredible all-around game from him. 5) This game was a toss-up - we faced a upperclassmen-laden team with a heavy-frosh rotation and basically played them to a draw. This team is just beginning to get it together - it is going to be a FUN season. Sidenote - saw Kennedy Meeks go up to JTIII the other night and give him a big hug - you forget sometimes that Coach develops relationships with players even if they ultimately go somewhere else....

Some quick thoughts: One of the big questions was whether the big men would show up in a real game. Do they get a pass or a fail? Smith was fine but not dominant on offense and actually held his own against the ordained top big man in the college basketball despite it being a matchup nightmare for him. The rebounding disappeared, but overall GU matched Wisconsin on that, so we'll give him a pass on that part and call it a mostly successful game for Smith. Hopkins is another story. Five fouls, some of which were bull Edited. But also 1-5 with three turnovers and he caused one of DSR's turnovers 100%. And they were all dumb TOs. Also got bailed out by fouls a couple of times. Just a disaster on offense and I mostly blame our other players for passing to him. If I'm annoyed, it's because if he could just avoid a stupid turnover or two, we win this game. He was hardly the only person with dumb plays, but overall, this was a tough test for Hopkins but I don't feel like he passed. Got to stay on the floor more for your defense to overcome five fouls and eight lost possessions. I'm not sure why there is even a question. They limited the supposedly unstoppable Frank Kaminsky, Mr. Double Double to 12.5 % shooting, 6 pts, 0 3s and 4 rebs. This guy, "the best player in the nation" was supposed to destroy Josh Smith and Hopkins and he was shut down. If Kaminsky plays anywhere near his averages they run away from the Hoyas. So all credit to Josh and Hopkins. Josh also was able to draw 3 fouls on Kaminsky. "KAMINSKY'S DAY It was the 34th time in Kaminsky's career that he took at least eight shots from the floor. He had never shot worse than 30 percent in any of those games, until Thursday."scores.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400608870

Every time Dekker scored a basket and the camera was on his face, I saw Jerry McNamara. I saw a giant Tintin.

Just went back and watched some of the game and now I'm even angrier.
The Badgers were really struggling to get by their man.
The athleticism difference was noticeable.
But the great equalizer was the refs.
I mean I don't mind a physical game. That's fine. Just as long as both sides are allowed to play the same way.
That wasn't the case today.

I think I saw 2 shots of Hoya fans. I saw at least 20 of UW fans. I know they had a bigger contingent, but really?

Great effort today in a game we coulda-shoulda won. In the first half I counted five unforced silly turnovers. And then a few more in the second half. They have got to stop wasting possessions like that and take better care when passing - especially to Josh in the low post. There were a couple of stepped on the line calls that the refs got wrong plus the ball off the foot of the Badger player. Taken together those plays and calls gave Wisconsin too many chances to stay in the game. DSR was on fire and gave an impressive performance on national TV today. I wonder where the LJ Peak I saw during the first couple of games has gone. He seems tentative and not ready to take that first quick step to the hole. I see a solid 8 man rotation DSR, Jabril, LJ, Hops, Josh, Paul, Aaron and Trey - with Isaac and Reggie getting spot minutes as the season progresses. This team will get better and better as LJ and Paul continue to grow into their roles. Disappointed but not devastated after this loss. As one poster noted, we were playing with house money today. Not expected to win and not ranked. Wisconsin fans should be thankful today they eked out a win. I'm thankful for the effort by the team. They did not shrink in this one and stayed in it right to the end.

Thanks to the fellas last night, I was finally able to watch my first game of the season live. I was very impressed with the freshman and White's 3 FTs at the end were a sign of real poise. Good to see DSR settle in for a special season, I agree with those that thought he should just shoot more when open. Very excited about this season and the Hoyas handled one of the very best in the nation. Meanwhile, the Hoyas have so much more room to grow. Hopefully, they can stay motivated and close it out in Atlantis against a conference foe. One thing to work on seems simple, limit unforced errors, hoping to see that more tomorrow.
I am not going to go on about the officiating, but I will say that I will agree with Frazier, way too much air time for the Wisconsin fans. If I did not know better, I would have thought this game was in Madison the way they had the camera fixed on them.

Sidenote - saw Kennedy Meeks go up to JTIII the other night and give him a big hug - you forget sometimes that Coach develops relationships with players even if they ultimately go somewhere else.... This particular part was extraordinarily baffling watching the game on mute to converse with family. Just like -- what the hell? I very much doubt any of the people that were shown on television had their feet leave the floor at all. As for the game, I'll agree this was the least frustrated I've been after a Hoyas loss in a while. It's November with a 15 hour turnaround and they went toe-to-toe with the second best team in the country. Kamisnky should have been a matchup nightmare and we shut him down which was what kept the game close. An average offensive game from him and we lose by a dozen. Final score and our overall performance was incredibly encouraging. Negatives: If we do a good job on the defensive boards we win this game. Smith and Hopkins both are just not very good rebounders for their size and White is too skinny at this point to rebound the 4 (side note: I've made fun of the pounds we add to guys in the past, but listing Paul White at 228 has got to be one of the most ridiculous). JTIII shortening the rotation especially considering the quick turnaround and how we mostly fell apart in the last few minutes is confusing. I think there ought to be a 9 man rotation of guys getting at least 10-15 minutes, with the 7 we saw today plus Campbell and Copeland, with Cameron basically being cut out of the mix. Campbell hadn't played less than 13 minutes in the four games before this so I would have expected to see more of him given that and Trawick's foul trouble. Copeland looks a little lost but I think you need to keep running him based on what reports were out of high school and hope he can figure it out by March.

I don't see a nine or ten man rotation of players all getting a minimum of ten minutes right now. The playing time has to be earned. Just playing someone for ten, or as much as fifteen minutes, doesn't improve this team if the players fail to contribute while they are on the court.
If you are expanding playing time for Campbell and Copeland, someone has to sit. Are you taking those minutes away from Trawick? Are you taking those minutes away from DSR? Trawick's minutes are limited on occasion by foul trouble, and DSR's minutes were limited in the first three games because of the "blow-out" nature of the games, which afforded JT3 to give time to others. You want Trawick and DSR on the floor, and if they are playing over 30 minutes a game, the remaining minutes are not going to be very large.
I think we'll see more of Copeland and Campbell as the season progresses, but I'm not sure they're going to get significantly more time without production. As for Cameron, his playing time going to be dependent upon his hitting the open shot; if he's not scoring, his ability to contribute, and accompanying minutes, will be severely limited.

The assist to turnover ratio the past two days has been very poor 7:15 today and 7:19 against Florida.
I know most people are upset at the first half foul disparity which seemed to keep the Badgers in the game at that point, Georgetown could have overcome some of that if they had just held onto the ball - especially since they were shooting at such a high rate.

Now that I am over the loss, I have just a couple of observations. Our guys did a heck of a job on the number two team in the nation. This team may have lost tonight, but I can bet you they grew up a lot as a result of this game. These are the kinds of games that get you battle-tested and battle-ready come March. I am disapointed but not disheartened by the loss. We just proved that we can hang with the best of them. Our guys were not playing to just come close; They--especially DSR--felt they could actually win the game--and they almost did. DSR is no doubt a star. Our freshmen played meaningful minutes and handle the pressure like veterans. Finally, this is the kind of loss that we can absorb. After the hand-to-hand combat against Florida, we played a terriffic game. No heads should be bowed here tonight, not in the locker room and not on this board.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING, ALL!

Some quick thoughts: - DSR was great, but he actually needs to shoot more when he's hot. If it is open, just shoot. Don't worry about getting other folks involved, especially if those other folks are not offensively adept.
- One of the big questions was whether the big men would show up in a real game.
- Hopkins is another story. Five fouls, some of which were bullEdited.
- Where'd you go, LJ? Decent defense, but he looked strangely tentative. He only attacked a couple of times. He's the one guy I wish we had gotten started earlier.
- Paul White needs to rebound better but he had a heckuva game. Huge props for recognizing the need to shoot that three and then making the FTs. Strong D, good ball control.
- Actually think Trawick had a pretty poor game. Too many fouls and not aggressive when in. And more importantly, in the the Key Wisconsin stretch, he was involved with leaving a 3pt shooter wide open twice in a row AND missed the front end of a 1 and 1.
- The key on the latter point is how cavalierly he took the FT. Compare that to Josh Smith's last two FTs - calm, concentrating, perfect form. Trawick just did that thing he does -- toss it up. Those little things are what really beat us in a game where we couldn't afford missed FTs or dumb TOs.
- SOOOO many dumb TOs. Wisconsin actually should have had more, but the officials don't do the little things, like look to see if a player if out of bounds when they are trying to save a ball. Let's not bash them too much. They are trying so hard.
- If we were ranked #2, we'd have been up 12 at halftime because the officials wouldn't have just kept our opponents in the game with Editedty officiating. That said, the final play wasn't goaltending (though a previous putback was) and if it was OTB, no one ever calls that when a dude is on the ground. That and the offensive board they got off a FT! Need to rebound better.
- Statistically, we were awful on defense, but hey, it's Wisconsin and it was just one of those games. I saw encouraging things from our D but I still feel like we make too many mistakes on switches.
- A lot of these sound negative, primarily because we lost a game we really should have won -- so many dumb TOs, the missed FTs, the officials. But obviously, it was nice to see us go toe to toe with a Top 5 team. Now we need to kick Butler's ass tomorrow.
I agree completely on Mikael's offense but he, like Josh, did a great job on kaminsky. I actually was shocked they didn't try to exploit Josh more from the outside, particularly right at the end after Mikael fouled out. They did run some screens there but I figured they would just clear a side for him and have him go or shoot. I guess they just don't do that. Agree completely on LJ and Jabril, particularly the latter's D. Offensively, like many players whose primary scoring avenue is through aggressive drives both of them at times are out of control and have predetermined from the foul line what they intend to do. You take the good with the bad there. But Peak will become that much better if he can develop a better feel for the aggressive dish. Certainly hope we finish the tourney off the right way.

Anyone have a clue why JTIII has played practically no zone D so far this year? I would think that would help Hop and Josh avoid fouls and permit our new, faster, athletic big men to harass opponents more. Only thing I can think is that JTIII feels we have so much depth that we can wear opponents down playing tough man all game.

Probably not enough time to work on it… I’m Sure it will come but I think it’s better for Josh and us as a whole if he plays man. If he wants to play big minutes and give himself a chance to lay his stamp on every game, he’s got to be able to guard somebody. So far so good. Regarding todays game I don’t think you can zone Wisconsin. Too many shooters and 2 big..

I surmise the first three games he worked on his man-to-man defense with Florida in mind. Florida and Wisconsin have great 3 pt shooters so man-to-man was not the best defense to use for either team for extended periods. Not sure about Butler's 3pt shooting so maybe more zone will be used tomorrow.

The fact that we lost a game to a team that is currently #2 in the country and it's, arguably, a game we should have won says a lot about the group of guys we have this year. I can't remember the last time I was this excited about a loss. I know they missed a lot of open looks. So did our Hoyas. And our team is, comparatively, young. I expect more growth out of our team than Wisconsin fans should, likely, expect out of theirs. I'd love to see a rematch. When Bilas said something to the effect of "isn't it fun watching two teams that can score" I thought, when was the last time a commentator said something like that about the Hoyas? Couple that with Bilas again talking about running less in the way of Princeton sets and looking to play some high/low. But then mixing in AB's hard cuts in our typical offense. JT3 is using what he has in terms of personnel and doing it well.
