Officiating was so unbalanced the refs should be embarrassed. They were very obviously protecting their darling #2. Without the refs keeping them afloat this game would've gotten ugly for them in the first half. This. Josh Smith can't get a foul call. Not to mention what it came down to is that they fear Bo Ryan way more than III. If I were the hoya coach I would've gotten a T during the first. Or at the very least at the beginning of the second half when they were still calling a bs game. I don't usually like to complain about the refs, but this one was obviously on them. Wisconsin couldn't get much other than what they were giving them and we outplayed a very talented and well coached team that should still easily be top ten at season's end

Would add that Bowen seems to have become an extremely valuable energy guy off the bench this year...moreo under control then last year. A definite asset to the team.

Let not be those guys who whine about the officiating. It was subpar, but it always seems to be subpar. Does that, in a perverse way, make it "par" because it's always bad? It doesn't matter. Although it hurts right now, this game will benefit us in the long term. We played the #2 college team in the nation even for 40 minutes. I'll take that. This team will be a real problem for others to play come January. By March, this will be a lot of fun. I agree, but this was easily one of the most one-sided, if not the most one-soded games I have seen the Hoyas play in the last 5-6 years. And last year is the only season I missed more than a few games.

Would have liked to see more of Tre. We just have too little offensive weapons, foul too much, and have silly turnovers. We’re just young… It will come in time if the guys keep working hard. The difference in the Game was this. When we go to our bench we have talented guys, when they go to their bench they Have talented experienced guys. Even Koenig is a Battle tested Soph the other guys are Seniors or 5th year Seniors. That’s why you can’t shake these guys, they know how to stay the course and trust their stuff.

Yep. Will be interesting to see how quickly White and LJ can develop. I think they are the X factors, in terms of how far the team can go.

Without the refs keeping them afloat this game would've gotten ugly for them in the first half. I think we showed great poise and composure considering how the game was being called. It must've been extremely frustrating for the Hoyas on the court. I love III but I kinda wish he exhibited a little less patience than his players. Maybe he just couldn't tell what was going on.

Did we actually get to shoot any free throws?

The silly TOs killed us. Also thought DSR should have shot more down the stretch. Agree completely. It was the turnovers. Also, unfortunately, my hope that Hopkins can at least develop into a credible offensive threat is dimming. This team desperately needs another consistent threat from the outside. Reggie needs to relax and stay confident. Watched him last year before a game just like a machine from deep 3. I am afraid he gets to stressed in the games.

Don't forget we missed the front-end of at least one bonus opportunity.
I thought the shortened rotation stalled out offensively. During the key Wisconsin run sequence, we had only Peak among the freshmen on the floor. I would have liked to see White out there and possibly more Campbell. Didn't like DSR/Bowen/Hop/Peak/Smith group because it seemed like they didn't have options. I guess that's mostly because Peak was struggling.
Those aren't very organized thoughts. Would really really really really really have liked this one given that 5-6 of my best friends went to UW and they are incredibly cocky right now, but we were just as good as that team in every respect.
Let's beat Butler though. No need to screw around with them. Once again though they will have more rest than we do.

I do know that there was definitely fatigue involved. Hoyas need to really work on interior defense. the tip in that put wisconsin up was an over the back....

So tired of Wisconsin fans right now. They are so over the top complimentary about us like we didn't own it for most of the game.
Didn't feel as jobbed by the refs as last night but the over the back and goaltending is unforgivable.
Trying to be positive but hard knowing we had this.

That's the least anger I've felt after a loss in a long time. Yes, it was extremely disappointing to lose after having that game in hand for most of the second half, but we competed for 40 minutes and were in no way outmatched by the #2 team in the country, save maybe some experience.
Agree 100% with all previous posts lamenting the fact Josh gets a raw deal from the officials just for being big. Some of the foul calls he gets (or can't get on the offensive end) are just unbelievable sometimes and are completely due to his relative size/strength compared to the opponent's. I have been critical of JT3 in the past for not protecting our guys, but he got a T last night already... there's only so many times you argue the same thing to get your point across. Maybe an Esh-like rant in the post-game is needed if things don't improve.
We have got to work on boxing out, especially on the defensive end and off free throws. Being weak in those areas has hurt us badly. Our halfcourt defense was superb for the most part, but the defensive possession doesn't end until you have the ball. The younger guys especially need to understand this.
There is a strong resilience in this group, much moreso than last year already. We got punched in the mouth plenty the last two nights, but each time, we got off the mat and punched back. One thing I was especially proud of this group today was not packing it in when they got down 7 with 1:50 to go. They could've easily just mailed it in and called it a day, but to fight back, get within 1, and come within a stop of being able to go ahead and a missed 3 from forcing OT speaks volumes about the mental toughness of this year's squad.
Hopefully they can close out a strong tournament with a win tomorrow against a much improved Butler team. Do that, and I think our performance in this tournament was a resounding success. We can play with anyone, and I think the country knows it now. This team is nowhere near its ceiling, and that's an encouraging sign.

FT shooting
FIRST HALF Georgetown was just 1 for 2 from the foul line in the first half, while Wisconsin was 13 for 18.
For the GAME GU 9/13 WISC 20/27
Wisconsin had an 11 point edge from the line, in a game they won by 3.
GU did play the biggest team in college basketball even on the boards: 26 to 26 Moral victory is an empty phrase. But this team is looking really good for early in the season with two frosh already firmly established as members of the rotation, and maybe add Tre in there too. It will be interesting to see how Copeland develops between now and Dec 31 when our BE season starts.
Both Mikael and Josh are exceeding my expectations up front, and are the only two legit big men we have this season, at least so far. Jabril adds toughness and determination, but he has to stop getting those technicals for losing his cool on the court - he's a senior. Aaron Bowen is using his athleticism effectively - great kid, energy off the bench. And DSR? He's starting to show us just how good he is.
GO HOYAS!
This is a really exciting team, and it will be a very exciting season.

That ball was in the cylinder. Wasn't even close. Did the announcers even mention it? It was off the rim and it wasn't over the back. I thought it was over the back. Also thought there were some terrible calls including Wisc kid clearly stepping out of bounds on a save and being awarded the ball. Bottom line, we can beat this team.

Every time Dekker scored a basket and the camera was on his face, I saw Jerry McNamara.

Some quick thoughts: - DSR was great, but he actually needs to shoot more when he's hot. If it is open, just shoot. Don't worry about getting other folks involved, especially if those other folks are not offensively adept.
- One of the big questions was whether the big men would show up in a real game. Do they get a pass or a fail? Smith was fine but not dominant on offense and actually held his own against the ordained top big man in the college basketball despite it being a matchup nightmare for him. The rebounding disappeared, but overall GU matched Wisconsin on that, so we'll give him a pass on that part and call it a mostly successful game for Smith.
- Hopkins is another story. Five fouls, some of which were bull. But also 1-5 with three turnovers and he caused one of DSR's turnovers 100%. And they were all dumb TOs. Also got bailed out by fouls a couple of times. Just a disaster on offense and I mostly blame our other players for passing to him. If I'm annoyed, it's because if he could just avoid a stupid turnover or two, we win this game. He was hardly the only person with dumb plays, but overall, this was a tough test for Hopkins but I don't feel like he passed. Got to stay on the floor more for your defense to overcome five fouls and eight lost possessions.
- Where'd you go, LJ? Decent defense, but he looked strangely tentative. He only attacked a couple of times. He's the one guy I wish we had gotten started earlier.
- Paul White needs to rebound better but he had a heckuva game. Huge props for recognizing the need to shoot that three and then making the FTs. Strong D, good ball control.
- Actually think Trawick had a pretty poor game. Too many fouls and not aggressive when in. And more importantly, in the the Key Wisconsin stretch, he was involved with leaving a 3pt shooter wide open twice in a row AND missed the front end of a 1 and 1.
- The key on the latter point is how cavalierly he took the FT. Compare that to Josh Smith's last two FTs - calm, concentrating, perfect form. Trawick just did that thing he does -- toss it up. Those little things are what really beat us in a game where we couldn't afford missed FTs or dumb TOs.
- SOOOO many dumb TOs. Wisconsin actually should have had more, but the officials don't do the little things, like look to see if a player if out of bounds when they are trying to save a ball. Let's not bash them too much. They are trying so hard.
- If we were ranked #2, we'd have been up 12 at halftime because the officials wouldn't have just kept our opponents in the game with ty officiating. That said, the final play wasn't goaltending (though a previous putback was) and if it was OTB, no one ever calls that when a dude is on the ground. That and the offensive board they got off a FT! Need to rebound better.
- Statistically, we were awful on defense, but hey, it's Wisconsin and it was just one of those games. I saw encouraging things from our D but I still feel like we make too many mistakes on switches.
- A lot of these sound negative, primarily because we lost a game we really should have won -- so many dumb TOs, the missed FTs, the officials. But obviously, it was nice to see us go toe to toe with a Top 5 team. Now we need to kick Butler's ass tomorrow.

Just feel like poop. We had this. Need to think of the positives. My expectations have raised and that means it is going to be a long season. Guys played great.
Side note...Mikael's mom is awesome.
