The Seahawks did lead the league in penalty yards this year. Among other things, that does indicate a lack of discipline.

Again, you're putting that on Carroll? You don't think 20 of 30 other NFL teams do something similar? No. You're right. For example, the Pats would never do something similar. You know, like get a celebration penalty after intercepting the ball on their 1-yard line, so that the ball goes back to the 1/2 yard line, making it even harder to get the ball out of the end zone and increasing the risk of a safety. BTW, I was rooting for the Patriots.

I suffered through Pete Carroll coaching the Patriots - his Patriots teams were similarly loose. (For reference, I'm not talking about trash talking and the like - that stuff is highly entertaining.)

Not a Pete Carroll fan, never have been. He's apparently a great guy, according to one of my former office employees who also waitressed in a local iHop and said he was very personable and a great tipper. Thought the Patriots were a better team, which they proved on the field. Thought the Seahawks were the second best team in the NFL, which they also proved on the field. My opinion about Pete's overall level of discipline vis-a-vis this year's Seahawks team in this year's Super Bowl was formed with my eyes watching the game and informed by past performances of his Patriots teams that I witnessed living in Boston at the time. I'm sorry that offends your delicate sensibilities but it is what it is.

If Tom Brady had cooperated with the NFL investigation and allowed access to his cell phone records, texts and emails, there may well have been some hard evidence. It is a bit easier to connect the dots when you see the text conversations between the Patriots' employees, their comments about Brady, and his gifts of autographed footballs and game worn memorabilia to them (especially when he disclaimed any knowledge of them). I'll excuse any New Englander standing up in defense of Brady and the Pats here. I just cannot agree with them.

Not actually defending Brady, just saying the "investigation" was a joke. I'd be more interested in this if the alleged transgression had anything at all to do with the Colts' complete inability to tackle any Patriots running back which is the actual reason they lost.

It's enjoyable seeing Boston fans in such a state today. Any rational person who reads that report knows that Brady broke the rules - no matter how inconsequential the act may have been (who knows?) - and that there was clearly a system in place to systematically break those rules. This is now the second time this franchise has been caught breaking rules - and the chowdah mantra is always the same (everyone does it! It's not why we won! blah blah blah). They are a great team. It's really troubling that they feel the need to break the rules and they deserve every ounce of humiliation and suspicion they will receive, now and as their legacy is remembered. Pats fans should just point to all those trophies and stop struggling with this. It's not like they're taking those titles away. Also, I guess Kraft isn't getting that apology.

I'm sure they did it, but the idea that this report is in any way damning is ridiculous. You have some texts and increased communication between Brady and some locker room guys who were currently embroiled in the sports world's biggest controversy. Why wouldn't they be talking to each other? And then you have some regression analysis of some data that wasn't really written down or tracked carefully.

Ha. Ok, Baghdad Bob. "Psst, come meet me in the QB room." I'm sure he just wanted to discuss how he wanted his cleats cleaned.

Again, I think they did it. Brady cheated and then lied about it.
The report is a bunch of garbage though and makes conclusions based on fallacies of logic. How people react in the midst of a giant media firestorm in terms of amount of communications doesn't prove guilt or innocence. When Kraft and Brady's lawyer say this was a report written not as an independent investigation - like say the Mitchell report - but one written just to prove the league's conclusion, they are right.

How was the Mitchell Report any more independent than Ted Wells's investigation? Mitchell was appointed by Commissioner of Baseball Bud Selig on March 30, 2006 to investigate the use of performance-enhancing drugs in baseball. Similarly, Wells was appointed by Goodell. Having litigated against Ted Wells, I have no quarrel with his impartiality and integrity in conducting a fact finding investigation and to draw appropiate conclusions therefrom.

You would think fans of the Pats and Aaron Hernandez would be familiar with burdens of proof and the power of circumstantial evidence.
