Marquette beat Tenn 67-59 and - get this, DePaul beat Stanford 87-72! And Nova whipped Delaware 78-47
Sadly, Long Beach State knocked off Xavier 73-70 and UK nipped PC despite being held to only 58 pts.

All of 5,990 got to watch the Cardinal embarrass themselves. I'm honestly a little stunned that they agreed to play a match at DePaul... Chicago alumni base sop, maybe? The AP recap inexplicably included this gem: "The Blue Demons improved to 163-215 in 12-plus seasons under Director of Athletics Jean Lenti Ponsetto."

If that does not make you laugh out loud. . . .not exactly a commitment to excellence.

I saw that too. Seems like someone at the AP has an issue with the AD. And really, their basketball program has been a joke for...ever. The Big East needs them to get a lot better. Yes, someone has to finish last in the BE, but it doesn't have to be the same team every year, and so very far behind everyone else.
Still, the BIG EAST has done really well with their OOC schedule so far this season and that is great for the conference. It would make for a great story - along the lines of the little engine that could. "Basketball only conference achieves big time success vs Power 5 Football schools!"
GU needs to maintain our traditional spot atop the Big East. Yes, there were some disappointments in the Bahamas, but the highlights and freshmen debuts were enervating. This is going to be a FUN season. And we need everyone - especially our frosh!
