There is some disagreement on North Carolina, Notre Dame and Georgetown. The 12th-ranked Tar Heels have already lost three times this season, but after impressive wins over #19 Ohio State and UAB in their last two games, it looks like they are back on the right track. Our pollsters, though, are not in agreement regarding where UNC should be ranked. One pollster has the Tar Heels at #9, while another has them at #18. At 12-1, it seems like #18 Notre Dame has moved on from a lost 2013-14 season, but a fairly weak non-league slate has our pollsters split on the Irish. One pollster has Mike Brey’s squad at #11, while another has it barely in the RTC25 at #24. #21 Georgetown also has three losses on the season, but all three (Wisconsin, Butler, and Kansas) are nothing to be ashamed of. Even with that under consideration, our pollsters seem to be divided on the 8-3 Hoyas, as one has John Thompson III’s squad at #16 and another has it unranked. Seven unique pollsters are always going to bring seven unique points of view to the fold and that is illustrated by the cases of North Carolina, Notre Dame and Georgetown this week. - See more at: rushthecourt.net/2014/12/29/rtc-top-25-week-six-2/?utm_campaign=twitter&utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitter#sthash.F0PHqrjw.dpuf

Virginia will surely start out on top with Maryland next. Places three through six are anybody's guess.

Nothing shocking here. The Hoyas loss at Xavier was their worst of the season and then Xavier turns around and loses to DePaul, the expected BE doormat. I think that the BE is very strong this year, including our supposed lower echelon teams. That said, it is difficult to argue that the Hoyas look like a Top 25 team yet. Potential is great but overall this team has not been consistent.

Gotta beat Marquette & Provy on road to get back into consideration. With the way things are playing out, there should be three to four BE teams in top 25 all year long. Get by Depaul & Butler and then we are firmly in the mix.

Agreed, Columbia. Starting off 5-1 would be great heading into Nova game. If we can't beat Quette and DePaul, there is no use in talking better than 9-9 in the league. Winning at Provvy and avenging earlier loss to Butler would do wonders for our reputation and ranking (not to mention help assuage this fan's mounting angst).

More like off the radar than under it. People know about us, they just are not that impressed and rightly so (far).
Not better than 50-50 that we get back on it again this year

Fourteen of the AP Top 25 lost this past week: #2 Duke, #4 Wisconsin, #5 Louisville, #7 Arizona, #10 Texas (both games played), #11 Maryland, #14 West Virginia, #16 Oklahoma, #18 North Carolina, #19 Seton Hall, #21 Baylor, #22 Ohio State, #24 St. John's and #25 Old Dominion.
Looks like Gonzaga and Villanova may both be moving into the top five.

It may not help rankings wise, where our rep is below the Big 12, but the schedule allows for plenty of top 50 wins for selection sunday. It will take a while for the BE to play out, esp as road wins are hard to come by.
We have the same RPI than AP ranked Texas and Baylor, and all of us have no top 50 wins at this point, but no bad losses either. If we get some league road wins, this helps us tremendously.

We have AT LEAST 8 games remaining against RPI Top 50 opponents and potentially 10 if St. John's can remain with an RPI under 50. We have plenty of opportunities to improve our computer numbers and be a lock for the NCAAs come BET time. 19 wins would lock us in and 18 wins will put us on the right side of the bubble with an RPI in the mid 30s (no major conference team has missed with an RPI under 40 and, yes, I still consider us a major conference).

32 in coaches, T33 in the AP. A little streak keeps us in the mix.
