Claims he accepts responsbility but wasn't his fault. I do not think that word means what you think it means. You are correct, sir! If he is asserting he is being held strictly liable, it is without his fault!

ESPN still talking about this crap with only an hour to go until NCAA games. Talk about giving the finger to the NCAA.

Jimmy is getting destroyed on Twitter. Check out Bill Simmons' tweets, among others.
Also, even NFL reporters are attacking him:

Boeheim coming out swinging at his press conference. Arguing that he is being held strictly liable as head coach w/o chance to rebut. Trying to have it both ways. Claims he accepts responsibility but wasn't his fault and disagrees with the NCAA's findings. It's the old Robert Klein joke about Richard Nixon accepting responsibility for Watergate but not the blame. "Those who accept responsibility keep their jobs. Those who accept blame do not."

The initial reviews of the Boeheim press conference are not positive: www.nj.com/college-basketball/index.ssf/2015/03/syracuse_coach_jim_boeheim_goes_down_swinging.html#incart_more_sportsIf he's going down, he's taking everyone with him.
Embattled Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim stepped in front of a reduced number of microphones Thursday morning in a conveniently timed press conference to respond to his nine game suspension for a litany of NCAA violations.
And by 'convenient,' I mean gutless because having it when most major basketball writers are off covering the first day of the NCAA Tournament is how you go about making sure they aren't there to push you hard on what you say.
Cowardly timing aside, Boeheim held nothing back and, as has been the case throughout his whole career, wildly misses the point.nypost.com/2015/03/19/jim-boeheim-mocks-derek-jeter-at-buck-passing-syracuse-presser/New Yorkers will put up with a lot from Jim Boeheim, but this time he may have gone too far.
The cranky Syracuse coach addressed the media Thursday morning about his upcoming retirement and used the forum to take an unprovoked dig at Yankees icon Derek Jeter.
“I’m not Derek Jeter,” Boeheim said, according to Syracuse.com. “There will be no farewell tour.”

On sports center this morning, Jay Bilas continued his defense of Boeheim and attack on the NCAA findings. Weird. The only thing I can think of his his attachment to Coach K has blinded him.

When it comes to graceless, petulant and childish behavior, Magoo is one of the greats. He belongs on the Mount Rushmore of Coaching Boors.
I now open debate on who should join him.

I'll nominate Bobby Knight, Jim Calhoun and Tom Crean.

I remain eternally grateful that our coach handles himself and his program with class, respect, and dignity at all times.

Bilas' animus towards the NCAA makes any reasonable discussion on the issue pointless. His argument this morning was especially weak for someone with a legal background.

Do not doubt for a moment that these 2 kids were forced out. Magoo the Blameless desperately wants to clear a scholarship for Thomas Bryant, since apparently the "grandfather clause" potentially delaying the scholarship reduction to start in 16-17 could allow them to still add him as long as they suddenly have a scholarship available. Stay classy Professor Hinkle.

The argument here will be whether the signing of another scholarship athlete after imposition of the penalty triggers an early start date. My recollection is that SU could delay the scholarship reduction for a year so that it would not impacted already-executed grants-in-aid; Bryant has not yet signed. With the graduation of Rakeem Christmas, these two transfers, and the self-imposed reduction going into this season, the transfer of these two sophomores probably enables SU to bring in Bryant and have the penalty begin a year early without having to ask anyone else to leave.
It's tawdry, but it is Syracuse, so why should we expect anything more from them?

I would think that the schollie ban would start next year for 2 scholarships (since there are now 2 spots available) and go for 4 years, but the ban on the 3rd scholarship would wait a year before starting. That would just put it as a 12 scholarship ban overall, but now over 5 years, instead of 4.

The ban is three scholarships per year for a four year period. Not twelve scholarships over four years. If the ban starts in the 2015-16 season, it is a three scholarship reduction.
SU did not have all thirteen scholarships awarded this past season (I think they were only at ten), so the transfers will enable them to bring in Bryant and start the time running a year early. At least I think so. And I have been wrong in the past.

Whatever happens with scholarships, I'm sure Magoo has no real idea how it happened, because somebody he or the athletic department hired is responsible for that stuff.
