III sounded pretty confident we'd be adding 2 more to this class. Assuming this isn't a surprise this might be good news as it makes it more likely that one of the higher profile guys is going to be a Hoya. If this is one of the two then wtf?

I gotta figure III was calculating Tacko to UCF in that equation, and I think that's good for us.

I thought he was an intriguing prospect however because of his size and our track record of developing bigs like Hibbert. In the end, he seems like a good kid and I wish him luck.

I don't think it's good news whatsoever. I think we know pretty much where we stand on Skal and Dozier (I highly, highly, highly doubt either come to GU). Who are we involved with in 2015 that is ranked that is left? It most likely means we add two depth guys late that transfer out after a couple of seasons.

TC I hope that means that the staff is thinking they're in good shape with Robinson and Dozier. With Skal being the possible third. Speaking on which, Blue do you have any info on the Robinson visit?

I am not thrilled by the news, either. I can't believe that if we really wanted Tacko,he would actually choose UCF. From what I understand, it is hardly his "hometown team"...he is from Senegal and has lived in Fla all of two years. After a quick start, 2015 recruiting news keeps getting worse. Now....getting Skal or Dozier changes that evaluation big time..getting neither will leave us pretty thin in a year or two.

Why would you think it means that we're in good shape on Dozier - he's going on ESPN to announce. We're not getting him. And we're certainly not signing two PG to sit behind DSR for a year. This means maybe - if we're lucky - we sign Robinson and a depth guy. More likely it would mean two depth guys. Recruiting has been an absolute disaster from the point which Noah backed out to now. Govan and Derrickson and two nobodies is still a respectable class, but this was shaping up to be a game changing class in the spring and it moved backwards rather than forwards with the Noah decommit.

Plus, he probably doesn't want to play behind Govan.

I don't get the gloom and doom on this thread. Sure some good news would be appreciated but why assume we're not in the running with Dozier and Skal?

Are you one of those people who ignores Nate Silver? This election is over and done with, we need to shift everything to 2016 now. Recruiting is at the point where when someone posted that video of Diakite posterizing the 7' guy, I start thinking, we'll probably miss out on Diakite, but maybe we have a chance at that 7' guy who got posterized.

In August, Tacko Fall's top eight schools, according to his Twitter account as reposted in this thread, consisted of GU, Florida State, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Purdue, Georgia Tech, Florida and Stanford. Central Florida was nowhere to be found. Funny how things change in ten weeks.
Well, UCF does have that tradition of academic excellence, basketball success and an unparalleled history of development of big men, turning them into millionaires. Oh wait. That's not UCF! How did they get him?
It really appears, to me, that this board was more interested in Fall than was the coaching staff. I believe they know more than we do. If the coaches weren't recruiting Fall aggressively, it's hard to say that GU "lost" him to another school, be it UCF or the other seven universities in which he averred he was interested. Hope things work out for him in Orlando.
I'm not prepared to call recruiting "an absolute disaster" at this juncture. Things will sort themselves out in the next few weeks. Let's be patient and see what happens. After all, things may become a little crazed after the NCAA decides what to do with the programs at Chapel Hill and Lower Canada Community College; those players who have verbally committed but remain unsigned to national letters-of-intent may come back into play.

Don't understand the negativity about Fall to UCF.
JTIII said on Saturday he's confident about 2 signings. So...
A) Tacko was not one of those 2 commits. That would seem to indicate he feels confident about someone we've been in constant contact with. Assuming Galen R. is 1, that means Skal or Dozier is another, no? Is there another name you could throw in there?
B) Tacko WAS one of those 2 guys III was confident about. OK - it definitely stings to lose a guy you think you've got locked up. But he's still a major project. I don't see a flier on an under-recruited productive HS kid (Benimon, Jon Severe, Greg W.?) as that much of a step down from Tacko, especially with the 2 bigs already in the class.
I'm currently feeling like it's A, but wouldn't be terribly disappointed if it were really B b/c I think Tacko is a huge project.
Of course JTIII might just be blowing smoke, and we have even less of an idea about who's on the radar than we think we have.

Jesus, TC, back off the ledge. I'm not on a ledge. I said a couple of posts ago that we have a respectable class coming in, and I've probably been the least high on Tacko Fall than anyone in this entire thread. That said, we need to recognize that recruiting this summer has been a total disaster and the same old chase the top 10 guys for four months as our primary targets and come up with nothing.

My guess is that Galen R is the third and that the two commits are nobodies that we haven't been talking about - or that they are just players we'll sign in the late signing but III knows that he needs to fill some bodies for a few years.

I think it's a little bit unfair to call recruiting an "absolute disaster." Sure, if you want to focus on the summer only, then it wasn't great but that completely ignores our commitments from Derrickson and Govan, who will be important pieces to our future success. Also, we did get Dickerson, and I don't think it's the staff's fault he decided to decommit 2 weeks after visiting campus and saying he couldn't wait to be there the following year (that shows you how the 16 or 17 year old mind works).
While I wanted Fall, I really don't think his loss is a huge deal. He likely would have been playing behind Govan anyway, so it's doubtful he would have seem meaningful minutes until 2016-2017 or beyond. If we can land another high quality big man in the class of 2016, suddenly Fall's loss isn't a big one.
Really, we are only a quality guard away from having a really good class. If we get Dozier, great. If not, then we'll need to wait until the spring and see if anybody emerges or if anybody decommits and becomes interested in coming to Georgetown.
The last 2 years have been one of the best recruiting stretches in recent times, when you consider the fact that we are no longer in a football conference, we actually require our players to go to class, our facilities are poor (until the TAC is built) and by March, it will have been nearly 8 years since we saw the second weekend of the NCAA tournament.
For years, we all complained that the assistant coaches weren't doing enough on the recruiting trail - JT3 fixed that with great results. Now, it's time for the on-court performance to improve. The best way to get recruits is to win.
Sure, there is a lot of shady stuff in the recruiting world, but the surefire way to win recruiting battles is to put a winning basketball team on the floor every single year, including the NCAA tournament. We have fallen short on that score in recent years, and now it's time to turn that around. If we do, recruits will come.

How about we just wait for two weeks or so before we assume too much of anything?
I have no idea of any details behind this recruitment. The fact that Fall took an official visit would seem to indicate that the staff had some interest, but there was nothing to suggest that they made a huge push in their recruitment of this young man.
