From ESPN article...sounds like Izzo may have outworked his competitors. "I didn't plan it this way," Jackson said. "I have done all my homework on each school ... and discussed everything with my family, and the timing just happened to land on my birthday," Jackson said. "When you have a Hall of Fame coach like Tom Izzo, it makes a statement about the program. "Coach Izzo has established a culture and an attitude of winning and I want to be part of that. He does a great job at developing his talent too." Izzo was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame over the weekend and made an immediate recruiting trip to see Jackson on Sunday after the ceremony. The visit made quite an impression on Jackson. "It was crazy he came to visit me right after I was watching him on television from the Hall of Fame," Jackson said. "I heard he was coming but I did not know for sure he would show up. That meant a lot to me." www.espn.com/recruiting/basketball/story/_/id/17552400/jaren-jackson-no-26-recruit-espn-100-commits-michigan-state-spartansAnd a quick blurb from the ESPN Insider article on the commitment: "Why he committed: The relationship with Izzo was the key. Izzo's winning culture didn't hurt either. Jackson also noted how positive and passionate the current players are about the program."

A winning culture will change our recruiting results significantly. This season is crucial for that reason alone.

Bigger recruiting miss: jtiii with jj Jr. or jt Jr. with Grant Hill?
From what I have read on this board, I would have to say Grant Hill.
It's funny, where I live in Orlando, Grant Hill was working out at the LA Fitness that I go to about 6 months ago. I was tempted to approach him and ask him how seriously that he considered Georgetown.

In terms of recruiting, even if they were the same player, Hill would be the bigger "miss" as JJJ likely had a fairly strong feeling one way or the other before the Georgetown staff even contacted him. If, however, it comes out that JJJ really wanted to come to Georgetown but the staff/facilities/style of play turned him off, that'd be a different discussion. It's very unlikely that a kid that really wanted to go to Georgetown would be so turned off to change his mind. Regardless, best of luck to Jaren at MSU. Great coach and program. I hope he's happy with his decision and that it works out well for him except, of course, if he ever plays against our Hoyas. Then I wish him 5 Monroe style technicals before the opening jump.

You should have used the treadmill next to him and read Green Eggs and ham for 30 minutes.

Grant Hill can take his prissy "I was offended" butt somewhere else. I am GLAD that fool did not come to Gtown.
Missing on JJJ will always hurt- not because he may end up being a hamburger all-american, but because of the combination of talent and legacy. Having said that, I think the staff did all they could. I will not be able to wash this salt out of my wounds during this lifetime, but we just need to keep trucking.

Not good. GTown program not looked as a national power by recruits. Mojo Gone. I wonder how JTII feels about this? It's because of III. There are coaches that recruit lights out without a national power program, but we have neither right now.

That's okay. Winning changes everything. I can still remember Barak Obama being asked by a news commentator: What needs to happen for African Americans to start supporting him instead of Hillary Clinton? His response: "They just need to see me win a few."

The Hoyas win if after two years at MSU, he decides he really wants to go to the university where his father went. And then we have deja vu all over again.

Insult to injury, I know... "If there is such a thing as winning a combine, 6-foot-11 senior forward Jaren Jackson was Wednesday's winner. By extension, Tom Izzo and Michigan State won as well because they hold a commitment from the five-star who ranks No. 15 overall in the class of 2017. Yes, it was an intrasquad scrimmage, but Jackson was thoroughly dominant and he wasn't going against chumps. Most times, Jackson was going head up with four-star Australian big man Jacob Epperson (more on him below) and he was simply too much. Jackson buried several jumpers from three-point range. He had a few nice drives from the elbow area, he spun and scored in the low post and he was dominant on the glass. Considering that he just turned 17 last week and looks to still be growing, the scary thing is that he just seems to be scratching at the surface of his potential." basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/five-star-jackson-shines-at-la-lumiere-combine

Projected as #6 in 2018 NBA Draft, seems to be wowing everybody at these postseason all-star practices/games. Not getting this kid was a huge red flag re: JT3's capabiities. "He's a classic modern 4, with length, athleticism, an outstanding 3-point shot and the ability to rebound and protect the rim," noted ESPN NBA draft Insider Chad Ford, who currently ranks Jackson at No. 6 in the 2018 NBA draft class. "While he needs to add strength and a post game, his tools were evident. Scouts took notice and believe his combination of size and skill set will make him the next-most obvious candidate to be a one-and-done player in college." www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/19149061/jaren-jackson-all-tools-modern-big-michigan-state-beyond

It's on JT3 that he couldn't lock down a one-and-done top 10 recruit who's father is probably still Editeded that the school chose JT3 over him? And that the kid chose Michigan State (more exposure, better facilities, probably best coach in the nation) over Georgetown? If Georgetown's going to be successful it's going to be because we can get enough 50-100 ranked kids to stay four years, improve, and play well together. JT3's failure over the last 8 years was chasing kids like this.

If chasing Jaren's son is a mistake, then the Georgetown coach had better make that mistake 100% of the time.....especially when he is a projected lottery pick.

We wasted the last decade chasing guys like this, Rabb, Christmas, Noel - none of them ever pan out. It's a trap. Recruit some guys we can get and who'll stay long enough to improve so that we can be good. The Villanova formula isn't to get one-and-doners.

You mean except when it does work out and those kids lead us to our successful seasons under JT3, kids like Porter, Monroe, Freemam, Wright, who were all All-Americans?
