Whenever we lose, especially in the post season, thread after thread appear expressing angst, 20/20 hindsight, anger, self-pity, calling for heads to roll, exasperation, depression, and finger painting... no, wait, wait, I meant pointing! finger pointing! yeah that's it. Page after page of this stuff. Endless posts.
So once in a while when Coach and Staff are on a roll and delivering left and right, it seems to me we should recognize a job well done! and acknowledge the grinding that's been going on. The hard work. The travel. The energy and commitment. AND - the results.
Getting kids like Copeland, White, Peak & Campbell, and Dickerson, Derrickson, Govan & Rabb (does that sound like a sketchy legal firm or what?) Wait - I'm getting ahead of things. Rabb hasn't committed yet, but his name played well for the "legal firm" line (it's called literary license for you business majors). Oh, and by the way. Am I the ONLY Hoya fan here who knows for certain he is going to be mixing up Derrickson and Dickerson many times over the next few years? Well, a small price to pay I suppose.
OK, back to the point. Kids like Copeland, White, Peak, Campbell, Govan, D & D -- that is exactly what we need to re-establish Hoya basketball. Adding the first four of those to DSR, Jabril and Josh Smith? We have the makings of a really good season in 14/15, and an even better season in 15/16. If I were JT3, I doubt if I would have had the patience and commitment to stick with Josh, but I hope for both of them - and for the team and the rest of us -- that JT3's faith gets paid off big time.
Now to the issue of the latest, very top rated recruits - I love the kids we have coming in already, don't get me wrong - but Coach and Staff didn't stop there. They are still going after MORE - Ivan Rabb - the #1 recruit in the country just had a great visit. How great was it Saxa? It was .....drum roll please..... ta da - INCREDIBLE! Allonzo Trier, a soon-to-be 5 star guard is strongly considering GU. JT3 has been on him for years. Dwayne Bacon. PJ Dozier. Josh Reaves. Coach and Staff are working it! And getting results. One can never predict outcomes in recruiting, but this staff is bringing top level kids to the table, and JT3 is having opportunities to close. That's about as much as you can ask... well, unless you're one of those schools with the bag men hanging around to close the deal for you.
So, the point of this post is to express my sincere admiration and appreciation of EVERYTHING those guys are doing. Broadus, Hardy, Sutton & Thompson -- now that sounds like a firm I'd hire, or a coaching staff of which we can be proud. Add in Othella and the rest of the crew, the hoops alums who are always there to help out, and Pops... he still carries a lot of weight... er, I meant to write - Gravitas... we saw that again in the comments from Ivan Rabb's coach. Pops is a widely admired legend in this business and his son is a more than worthy successor who has major accomplishments of his own.
Finally, time to wrap this one up with a hearty CONGRATULATIONS to COACH and STAFF, a big WELCOME to the new kids arriving shortly, and a huge Thank you to our current team and recent graduates.
HOYA SAXA!!

No, SirSaxa, you will not be the ONLY Hoya fan to mix up Derrickson and Dickerson. You say that they are not the same person?! I really enjoyed your post and your excitement about the whole thing. Only trouble, it is not close to NOVEMBER yet. I guess we will have to enjoy the Kenner League first.

Must say as a long time Hoya fan, this has been, will be?, one of the most enjoyable off seasons that I can remember. The staff have been working their butts off getting top rated talent to commit to Georgetown. I too add my congratulations to JTIII and staff.

I agree; Congrats.
And let's not forget their efforts and the importance of getting Mourning ( fine player, excellent individual) which helps with the cool factor with other recruits.

Thank you justsaying for reminding me of the extraordinary coup of bringing in Trey! And you are right - he def adds a COOL factor. He gets to come in as just another recruit, not the center of attention with all the expectations loaded on him. He can develop at his own pace, contribute in practice, and when he and staff think he's ready, he can start getting some PT and provide length, shooting, and a Hoya Legend name. And smarts! Thanks everyone who liked or read this post, and biggest thanks to JT3 and staff... 'Oh MY!" as Rich likes to say.

You are spot on Sir Saxa. The entire staff had worked incredibly hard, and they have earned this success. It should be fantastic to be a Hoya fan the next few years. Hoya Saxa!

Funny how you never see a lot of those aforementioned finger pointers on this board whenever there is this kind of good news.
Huh. Maybe they forgot the URL or somethin'.
Congratulations to the staff for their hard work paying off & great post, SirSaxa.

Excellent post. Hopefully we can keep this coaching staff in tact for a while, as I think the combination of ineffective recruiters and large amounts of turnover on the staff have exacerbated our struggles on the trail in recent years. Seems like Hardy and Sutton know the recruiting game well and with Broadus back in the mix, they make a solid triumvirate. The whole staff is certainly deserving of some praise for their recent hard work and success. Keep it up!

I agree with this sentiment. I think the coaching staff has done an outstanding job, and I also hope we can keep this group of assistants together for a while, because I think it really provides us with a great chance for some sustained recruiting success.
Boz's observation is very true. During the season (and especially in March), this place is filled with people ripping apart the staff, obsessing over rotation size and minutes, and focusing on the bench players, yet when good things happen in the off season, these folks are nowhere to be seen. I am sure they will re-emerge with the new season.
But enough of that - great job to the staff. They assembled a great 2014 class, and we already have a very good 2015 class that could turn out to be even better if we land some of the guys we are actively recruiting. I am very much looking forward to the next couple of years of Hoyas basketball.

As a Georgetown alum and huge college basketball fan I’m always all in on the Hoyas. My wife recently made a comment that she wishes I had as much passion for our marriage as I do for Georgetown basketball. She knows I love her but I get her point. Anyway, I’m very grateful for everything the coaches have done to build the program and the way they represent the university well.
Like most Hoya fans I’m excited about this upcoming season and the type of team we could potentially have for the 2015-2016 season. And that’s regardless of whether we bring in Rabb or Trier. Of course adding either player would raise expectations even further.
For now I’ll continue to enjoy this off-season and I’m looking forward to hearing about the freshman once Kenner League starts. Although I currently live in Atlanta I hope I can make it up to check out at least one weekend of KL action. I miss those days.
Thanks again to JT3 and the coaching staff. We should all be optimistic about the future of the program. Now I’ll go back to lurking. Bleed Blue!

As for the Mrs. - just tell her that as soon as she can give you the highs and lows, thrills and heartache of a last-second three-pointer for the win, or a 1-11, 6 turnover, 5 foul disaster in a big game, she will get all the passion she can handle!

The staff is doing a great job in recruiting and certainly deserves credit. As one who is critical of the coaching from time to time during the season, I try to be fair in stating my opinion. JT III, despite my concerns about his rotation and the so-called system, has demonstrated an ability to change and adapt in the past two years during some very difficult and unexpected challenges. There have certainly been some recruiting misses, but the problem in recent years has been the unexpected losses, such as academic suspensions for Whittington and Smith and the health issues of Adams. Recruiting is as much finding the right pieces as it is a ranking. The Hoyas have recruited highly ranked players who simply did not pan out, while others with lesser "credentials" out of high school excelled. I hope that the incoming classes live up to their rankings, but I cannot find a great deal of fault with the additions of players like Trawick, Porter, Sims (though a late bloomer), Starks, and DSR, to name a few of those brought in before the current group of assistants.

Harrumph, harrumph. This thread is way too Pollyannaish. Not acceptable on this board. NOT ACCEPTABLE ON THIS BOARD!
And one more harrumph for good measure.

Until she starts doing that..... I don't know that the coaches are working any harder than they have in the past. They do seem to be having more success and casting a wider net and I'm a big fan of that. Congratulations to the staff for some big gets as a result of their time, effort, travel, and selling of Georgetown to kids that, hopefully, fit right in and have successful, enjoyable years while on the Hilltop. November is SOOO far away!! Ugh.
