A follow up interview with Ewing Sr. on his son's status with Georgetown might clear up part of the picture: "Ewing was non-commital about his son's future with Georgetown, saying that it was important to "never imagine yourself to be otherwise than what it might appear to others that what you were or might have been was not otherwise than what you had been would have appeared to them to be otherwise'." The full article is at: www.houstontimes.com/ewing~archive4378913["Houston Times"...a day late on the 4/1/ post.--Admin.]

Good God! That statement brings back haunting memories of reading Hegel in philosophy class.

I thought it was just me who was getting confused attempting to figure out what Patrick was saying. Hard enough to understand on any normal day, but after a Friday Night out, this confused me to the level of Digger Phelps freestyle commentary on wearing carnations, coaching at ND, Pol Pot, the Iran Hostages, etc...... which ended up back in current talking of Chris Thomas importance in not only ND's Tournament chances but also the scope of CBB.
There is a post from an IU fan on MDVarsity that says Ewing is coming to GU, and have no idea if it's rumor or something they've heard via their board. Others say it's between Georgia Tech and Hoyas, so hopefully we'll hear more about this in upcoming week and at the Hoya Hoop Banquet. If I have to rely on Patrick's verbal "maze" I'll be looking to do an ADD/Drop with threads/links!

I have a bad feeling about this....I love the Georgetown spirit and the idea of "keeping it within the family", but do we really want Ewing? This feels more like a nice family gesture than a strategic move, which worries me. I sure want it to work, but I'm skeptical and hope we get another good big man in 2006. Is he really worth the scholly and the wait? Then again, I'll take Pat Ewing Jr. now over Sead, Dizzy, AKD, or Cornelio any day so I'm not fretting it TOO much. If anything, I'd like to see him come just to see JT3's teaching abilities and his father and Big John's involvement...

I wasn't into this idea at first but now I'm starting to think it might be the right move. We have Owens(?), Cook, and Bowman graduating next year. So that opens up a few key spots on the floor.
Egerson moves into the Owens spot, and one of the guards moves into Cook's spot.
So that leaves PE Jr and Octavius Spann to battle for Bowman's opening and that seems like a good thing.

I'd take Ewing in a second. Its not like he's some bum that we're giving a scholarship and/or spot to out of pity. If he comes, he's definitely talented enough to get significant playing time. He's extremely athletic, and with the right coaching, he could be a very, very good player. Next to Jeff Green, he'd already be our best shotblocker. Plus, this team definitely could use more athleticism. I'd prefer that we had more athleticism at the guard position, but he'd do.

But who would you rather have: Ewing Jr. or Alex Galindo?
I'd take Galindo in a heartbeat despite our need for some size down low.

He's PE, Jr. If he wants to come, he's here. No questions asked. Add in that he's got huge upside and we've got a talented coaching staff..
That said, I haven't clicked on the link, but that quote reads to me like Frank Black's attempt at a late April Fool's joke.

Hmm..The Houston Times, eh? Damn liberal media! People, our coach is named John Thompson. This kid is named Patrick Ewing. Do I have to spell it out for you? Now, if we can find somebody nicknamed Sleepy, Reggie, Alonzo, and Dikembe (that one might be tough), I guarantee a championship. If they can play basketball, even better! Anyway, it's not as if PEII is some totally raw product who can't play. He was the best rebounder and shotblocker per minute on a pretty decent Indiana team in a very decent Big Ten. He was a top 100 recruit a couple years ago. If his name was Rollie Massimimo II, and he had his abilities, he would fill a big hole on our team. Our recruiting is definiitely trending up, but it's not as if top 25 big men our lining up at the door for a slot. This would be a fantastic coup.

We got bludgeoned on the boards last year, seems to me any help in that regard would be of use. Seriously, we add three wins and an NCAA berth if we rebounded worth a stool.

Yeah, I would take PE Jr. in a second. We need some athleticism and in jr. we get. He is a good rebounder and without good coaching staff, he could learn alot. I mean, Indiana does not have the best coaching staff, I just think to myself that if jr. would have started out at a better college with better coaches, I think he could have learned alot and become a pretty good player. It is better late than never for him, and I think if he comes here, he will turn his whole career around and help GTOWN out alot when Brandon leaves or when Jeff is on the bench for a couple of minutes.

Anyone who averages about 4 points or so a game at Indiana, a not-so-great team, can't be that good. Hope we stay away from him.

We do not need a scorer, we just need a player who will rebound and play d, and that is what P.E. Jr. will bring to the table.

And before you say something like, "Why would we want a player who couldn't start on an NIT team?" remember that: When DJ wasn't starting much, he was averaging over 20 mpg and only 7 ppg. Roy averaged 15+ mpg, and only 5 ppg. Tyler only averaged 3 ppg. Pat - 16 mpg, 4 ppg, 3.8 rpg Roy - 17 mpg, 5.3 ppg, 3.6 rpg pretty similar, considering the six inch difference.

Agreed, we don't need PE Jr. to score, we just need him to rebound and block some shots. And there is no reason to think he can't develop a bit of an offenisve game going forward.

Here's the problem with Junior coming on campus - our schollie situation. We've only got one open next year (and this goes for Junior, Galindo, or any "mystery" recruit that may come in) IF Owens leaves AND Wallace doesn't take one up. If he doesn't take one up next year as he'll have to sit but will the following years, then we're down to 1 to give out in 06-07, unless Wallace still isn't taking one up. It'll be interesting to see how III juggles this situation - provided all these rumors are true! This also goes to what I've been saying all along about a few guys on the team, specifically Guibunda - I wouldn't be surprised if a player or two are Willie Taylor-ed off campus.
