Creighton has great support in Omaha, but it is not a huge school (thus fairly few alumni), it is very far away from DC (no one is driving), and I can't say I met too many Nebraskans in my 10+ years living in DC, so it would surprise me to see them turn out in huge numbers on a Tuesday night in early March. I am sure that their traveling support is saving their time and money for the upcoming tournaments, and I hope they make a big impact at MSG next week. We might have hoped for more of them at Verizon on a Saturday in January or February. The biggest problem with the schedule this year (after the loss of Cuse, Pitt, UCon, ND, Louisville) was the lack of any solid home games on the weekends - the best draws in the conference going forward are likely to be Villanova, Marquette, and Creighton - all of those were played on weeknights. I thought there was a shocking number of Creighton fans at the game last night, particularly on the 200 level. I've never met anyone who went to the school, and so was very surprised to see so much Creighton blue last night. It's a great thing for the conference.

Such a great win and all around effort by Markel and showed his true colors at the end of the game when his emotions came flowing out. The defensive effort that threw Doug off in the first half was remarkable and the reason why we built a nice lead that we never relinquished. Hats off to Bowen and Jabril for getting in Dougy's jock. Hats off to coach for sitting Nate in the second half rewarding the efforts of the smaller line up (not an easy thing to do on Senior night but was necessary for the win).
Pause
Where are all the haters? Selling your alumni section tickets to Creighton fans huh? Have to say I generally liked Creighton fans that were invading the 200s.

the best defensive lineup for this team is to have bowen and jabril ont he court at the same time. that means we go small with markel, dsr, jabril, bowen and hop/moses (having nate at center in this lineup would be a disaster). that lineup works great if hop plays like he did last night and stays out of foul trouble. you risk getting killed on the boards by bigger teams and defending multiple bigs but i think this team can make up for it by pressuring more. Bowen needs to stop jacking up 3pt shots early in the shot clock though. Almost let them back in the game and III pulled him for Cameron on offense because of it. We can't afford to have those blunders from here on out, the 3pt shot is not in his range this year. Aaron needs to have confidence to take that shot, to keep defenses honest, especially when we only have 2 other scorers in; however if it is obvious he is off, like last night, he has to stop after one, or at most two. I also thought that Jabril should not have stopped shooting from outside so quickly; he made the 2 early ones, then missed a couple in a row and seemed to stop even looking to shoot. Again, we need to make the defense at least think about having to paly defense at the perimeter.

Also, were students on spring break last night? Tons of empty seats in the student sections...

Overall, the class level of our conference opponents' fans has really increased this year. It may make for fewer funny, vitriolic confrontations with beer-throwing hillbillies, but I think that's probably a good thing. Remember just a few years ago when we had to tolerate West Virginia fans all over the place? I'll take some nice Nebraskans any day.

Great game, best we've played this year. Hopkins staying out of foul trouble was huge, obviously. Seeing us roll for much of the game with only a single big man in the lineup was a throwback to last year. It won't work against every team, but it really did the job against Creighton. Until they busted out the triangle-and-two, which gave us fits, ball activity and player movement on offense were both great. Defensively, we were even better. Wragge didn't get the clean looks we gave him last time, and while McDermott got his points, it took him a ton of shots and we really made him work for them.
Something I didn't even realize until looking at the box score just now: DSR had 12 total rebounds (2 offensive, 10 defensive). When the heck was the last time we had two guards with double-doubles in the same game?

Which of our seniors were honored before the game? Did it shed any light as to whether Moses or Aaron may come back for another year?

But then everyone in attendance was forced to sign a non-disclosure agreement so, sorry, you're out of luck.

"Creighton has the nation's best offense, and McDermott is perhaps the country's best offensive player. The Bluejays shoot threes often and well, and so a turnaround can come quickly."
Just to help put it in perspective the feat we pulled off last night. Still beaming. It was also good to see the long face of one of my fellow teachers who is a Syarcuse fan this morning.

"Trawick has now scored in double figures in six straight games and seven total since his return from injury, a dramatic turnaround after eclipsing 10 points just twice in 14 games before breaking his jaw. Of course, Trawick's outside stroke has been the most notable improvement, as he has shot 44 percent from beyond the arc since returning from injury and has buried 2 triples in each of Georgetown's last three games." Tremendous growth and maturity of a basketball player. The kid has grown up. Great article from one of our own: www.casualhoya.com/2014/3/4/5471964/georgetown-hoyas-creighton-bluejays-game-recap

The question has been raised numerous times. The answer is that Moses, Aaron, Starks, Lubick and Caprio were honored. The fact that Moses and Aaron were honored sheds no light on whether either will return. In fact, mapei sat near Aaron's parents, and they said they did not know if he would return.

What a way to put a bow on a great Hoya career for Markel. I'm really happy for him to have been able to finish his career at the Booth like that. Well done. DSR was great too and clutch throughout the second half. Bril? That was a helluva game. I'm rewatching it tonight so I can enjoy it more and sweat it less knowing the outcome going in. In the sense that it was Senior NIght, it's a shame Nate didn't get more minutes but, as others have stated (and confirmed in that little coach's meeting vignette) it wasn't a good matchup for Nate. One coach mentioned in that little clip that the athleticism was to our advantage and that Creighton was struggling to keep up in that regard. It makes sense that Nate would sit in that case. I only hope that he got honored prior to and after the game in the manner in which he deserves for a really solid 4 years. Hoya Saxa!

Also impressed with some of the Creighton female fan talent.

Also impressed with some of the Creighton female fan talent. Omaha is a vastly underrated city in certain regards....
