So Michigan has a kid graduating with his degree, who sat out last year after surgery and who has been told by the coaching staff that they have no scholarship for him as he has been recruited over and the coach, who abandoned his prior team to go to Michigan, says he will not allow him to transfer to another conference school: “Having a kid sit out a year is not like going to jail,” he said. “It’s a slippery slope. I want what’s best for Spike but also what’s best for our program. You train a guy and develop him for four years and suddenly he’s the starting point guard at Michigan State?” This is exactly why the system is going to fail eventually and the colleges will have only themselves to blame. Unless and until the colleges impose similar restrictions on coaches and provide protections for kids recruited over for a younger, better player, this type of restriction is outrageous. Consider that this same school could allow a kid to come for one year, barely attend classes the first semester and essentially stop going to classes in the second semester and leave for the NBA--no problem with that scenario. Yet, this kid comes, gets a degree, gets told he is no longer wanted and can leave, but only if he agrees not to leave for any of the other 11 conference schools who might want him. jeffborzello Jeff Borzello John Beilein on Spike Albrecht and Ricky Doyle: "I am now removing all restrictions regarding their recruitment by other universities."

Yes good result. Mike and Mike blasted Michigan over this issue for 20 minutes this morning.

jeffborzello Jeff Borzello Sacred Heart transfer Cane Broome is down to four schools: Cincinnati, Creighton, NC State, Seton Hall. NEC Player of the Year. 23.1 PPG. Cincinnati's coach looks like he's got one foot out the door and NC State's coach is likely to get canned before Broome would ever be eligible. Hopefully this kid ends up in the Big East. Wow, I'm surprised Providence isn't on his final list. He just visited there the other day and with the style of play, successes they've recently had plus playing in the BIG EAST, Dunn and Bentil developing into NBA players and a stable coaching situation with Ed Cooley, I thought transfers and recruits would be heavily considering Providence. I know they don't have the best facilities but still should be getting better prospects. They probably showed him the dorm room triples - my daughter saw that and said "we can leave now."

They can't still have triples in dorm rooms in this day and age, can they? Wow that would really suck! If that's the case then Cooley's a better recruiter then I thought. It's one thing to have less then adequate basketball facilities but below average and behind the times living arrangements and still able to recruit at a solid level and field a competitive team is pretty impressive.

Rodney Pryor or Johnathan Mulmore, which would you rather have? Both! We have the scholarships! Does the staff still push hard for Pryor now? I hope so.. By taking Mulmore, this really becomes a now team so why not go for the gusto..

I agree...we have the scholarship and he absolutely looks like an impact player in scoring and on the boards from a wing position. I hope we get him but if we don't, it's not a devastating loss with Mulmore in the fold who address the major whole in the roster. Fwiw, IMO I think It's going to be a fight with Gonzaga to get Pryor and we know what that's like from last year at this time.

I was thinking more of PG Nigel Williams-Goss who is a stud. I was hoping we would have got him last year at this time but all good things happen to those who have patience.

I see Barry's recruiting shaking down to Miami & California. Dad (Rick Barry) is U Miami legend and I believe his dad and family still reside in Northern California area. Also both have a strong need for his abilities.

I hope his visit makes a lasting/strong impression on him.. Have to believe that Pryor is a backup option in case they don't get Josh Jackson. Kansas has 3 open scholarships and seem to be on every available 4/5 star high school/prep prospect available from Taurean Thompson, Deshawn Corprew, and Big's Marques Bolden and Jarrett Allen. I am really surprised they didn't get in the Alpha Diallo and Terrance Ferguson sweepstakes. From Pryor's perspective, one would think he's looking to go somewhere where he can start and get solid minutes so I doubt he commits to Kansas if they get Josh Jackson. If he's as good as advertised and can rebound well from the wing, I think he could start at Georgetown next year alongside Mulmore, Peak, Copeland & Govan. His knowledge, experience (6th year) and maturity (24 years old) would be an added bonus to the roster. I hope Georgetown gets him, but if the staff doesn't, it won't be a devastating loss if everyone else returns healthy and Kaleb Johnson and Marcus Derrickson take a sizable step forward in their progression. I actually think that Gonzaga will be the team to beat for his services as they can probably guarantee him a starting spot on the wing as well as the opportunity to play in the NCAA tournament. I hope he enjoys his visit to Georgetown and commits during or decides he likes the opportunity on the hilltop after he's done with all his visit because I really like his game and think he could bring a lot of the toughness we loss when Jabril graduated.

If Pastner leaves Memphis, which is sounding increasingly likely, hoping Hardy will at least put in a call about Morgan Park's Charlie Moore: 247sports.com/Player/Charlie-Moore-75344Basically the exact type of player we need, a true point guard and playmaker, and a Top 100 talent (Mr. Basketball in Illinois). His coach has stated that if Pastnet leaves he will re-open. I'm sure he'd have a ton of calls and attention at this phase of the game, but it's worth a shot and I'm not sure how many teams could offer a virtually guaranteed starting spot to lead a team full of Top 100 players at the 2-5 spots.

Not sure where to put this, but kind of fascinating...
Duke freshman point guard Derryck Thornton is transferring, multiple sources told ESPN's Jeff Goodman and Jeff Borzello. He was a five-star prospect coming out of high school and started 20 games in his lone season at Duke, averaging 7.1 points and 2.6 assists per game.
