Hopefully there's a direct correlation with Jabril face injuries and his scoring. Ever since that broken jaw Bril has been an unsung hero coming off the bench for a much needed offensive boost. Would like to see that increase even more. Too bad that absurd technical got him fouled out. Even though he's probably earned a starting position back with his play his mouth is probably going to keep him on the bench. But that's probably for the best giving him a little extra motivation to get it back.

I think JTIII will continue to start Cameron to see if he can hit a couple of early shots, and then build from there to give us a big game; if he does not contribute early, I look for continued quick hooks to get Jabril in, which right now is having benefits at both ends. The only change I would like to see from Jabril on offense - if you start to drive and don't get a path to the hoop, kick it out instead of forcing wild shots in the hope that you will get fouled.

I think Jabril getting bowed in the face is the first time all year that he has gotten hot and it was warranted. He shouldn't have gotten the T in that situation, not that it mattered much. He needs to cool his trash talking in certain situations. In NY vs. MSU, he started talking at Gary Harris and all he did was flush one on our entire team and then drain a three. No need to get the most talented player on the floor fired up.

We need some of the toughness and the attitude that 'bril gives us - he just has to stay on the right side of the line. He has done pretty well lately, hopefully that will continue. We desperately need the increased offense he has given us since his return.

Jabril doesn't bring toughness, he brings immaturity and dumb fouls.

And "immaturity" seems the wrong term.

This game is scheduled at the same time as Duke/Carolina. So we are going to have to be outstanding to get national coverage!

The last game was lost beyond the arc as we allowed them to shoot 55% from 3 pt range and score 33 points. We gave them 9 more FTs than we took and both teams shot their FTs equally poorly. Rebounds were even. Hopkins had a strong game on offense and the boards. So did Bowen. So how to fix that loss. Use the small lineup to keep our best defenders in the game with Jabril or Bowen guarding Edwards all night. Pray for intelligent and disciplined play in the post by our trio of posts and that they can stay in the game and present at least a viable threat on offense. Hope that DSR, Cameron and Starks can find their shot outside and penetrate inside to draw fouls.
For all the hype about our backcourt this year, the truth is that neither is an outstanding shooter--they are outstanding scorers. The difference is enormous in how a player must approach the game. If the outside shot is again failing, Starks must adjust, as DSR has lately. He cannot try to will his team to victory with wild and crazy plays where he throws up off-balance prayers. When he is playing smart, Starks is a threat every time down the court. When he is out of control he is a turnover machine.

True that he is not the only culprit for fouling, but it seems to me that his hard fouls (which are mostly far away from the basket and not involving stopping an offensive player from scoring) do nothing to help. When you have a center manning the basket fouling people hard on layups, maybe there is an effect that the other team stops bringing the ball down there and that can help. But Jabril fouls people after they get a rebound, when they are trying to make a cut, when they are bringing the ball up the court, etc. - those are useless fouls. I will say that he shows some toughness on offense by taking the ball to the hoop when many of our others players historically have not done that. He doesn't always have great results on his drives, but on this team where we have so few offensive contributors, I do appreciate his effort there.

We got killed in transition. They had at least 5 threes in transition against us. Get back and defend the arc.

Willard has announced that both Teague and Oliver have been "fully reinstated," and will be available for tomorrow's game. No big surprise there. Both have apparently been practicing with SHU all week.

I certainly agree that when he just bangs a cutter for no apparent reason and gets called for it, I just scratch my head. Happens far too often.

Annoyed with Bowen too. He and Jabril seem to feed of eachother's nonsense. Tone it down guys - you are both bench players on a team that is barely in the NCAA conversation - enough of the tough guy crap. Sorry I just felt so much second hand embarrassment after that debacle in the Garden this past weekend.

they add the only excitement to this team Winning is exciting. Taunting the opposition when you're down by double digits doesn't do it for me. Love Bril and Bowen and understand why they are fan favorites, but their unsubstantiated (over)confidence just rubs me the wrong way. If Jabril gets that offensive foul against Obekpa and then cuts it to a two possession game - turn to your own bench to fire up your teammates. Trash talk and taunting when you are losing - I don't view that as Hoyas Basketball. Need to be all business tonight against the Pirates.

Can we leave this discussion in the St. John's thread or even in Jabril's thread. We need everyone to step it up against Seton Hall and regain confidence. I don't mind over confident players but they need to play smart as well. Bowen's confidence is growing (btw how is Bowen over confident? At this point I wish he forced more, he disappeared in the 2nd half Sunday) and we need his scoring and defense. It seems like St. John's plan was to try to slow down our back court and let our front court beat them, which they couldn't do. Seton Hall doesn't have the same type of athletes down low so hopefully Lubick, Hopkins, and Moses will be able to operate better without forcing it. SH rebounded better then they usually do against us last game so we need to work to keep them off the boards. The key for this will be our defense, they are shooting .444 fg% for the year, we need to hold them below their average.

We thought the discussion was about the game, just added brief comments about players. The game is Thursday not tonight.
