Just to get technical for one moment, doesn't that make this a Nov 9th game, since 8 pm here is sometime early the following AM Korea time? Maybe this explains how my Google calendar put the game on the 9th.

Here's some quotes prior to today's game on Oregon's areas for improvement. Seems like we have an opportunity to be dominant inside:
“Rebounding is everybody’s responsibility,” said Altman, in his fourth season in Eugene. “Arsalan kind of made a lot of our players relax a little bit. Just thinking, ‘Oh Arsalan will go get it.’ E.J. was a very good rebounder. So those two guys went after a lot of balls and covered up some of the other guys.
“This year it’s just a lot more obvious that everybody’s got to consider themselves a rebounder.”
Altman’s long to-do list extends beyond the boards.
“We’re not anywhere close on the details of the game: out of bounds plays, execution of our offense, communication on the defense has a long way to go,” he said. “Our blocks are inconsistent on rebounding so there’s not one phase of the game where as a coach we’re really feeling good about right now. A lot of loose ends to tie up.”

I actually think Hop will blossom at his natural four position. He will relax and make those layups h misses so frequently.

Here's a writeup from the US Army on what the schedule is for the Armed Forces Classic. I didn't know that the Hoyas will be doing an open practice beforehand, and also several activities with the service men and women. Great stuff! www.army.mil/article/114302/Georgetown__Oregon_hoops_teams_to_battle_at_Camp_Humphreys/While here, the teams will participate in a variety of activities surrounding the game, including serving and eating with the troops at a dining facility, conducting youth clinics for children, holding open practices and touring the installation. "We're excited about the opportunity to be a part of the Armed Forces Classic and for the opportunity to play Oregon," said Georgetown head coach John Thompson III. "I think it's important as we prepare for league play to compete against top-flight opponents. At the same time, it's an honor for Georgetown to be involved in the Veterans Week festivities and to recognize the contributions of the United States military." "Our players and staff are very excited to take part in this event," added Oregon Coach Dana Altman. "This is an incredible opportunity for all of us and we look forward to entertaining the troops." The teams will arrive at Incheon Airport Nov. 6, and then be bused to Camp Humphreys. Once they arrive at Humphreys, they will have time for an optional practice, which will be open to the community, and then dinner. During their time in Korea, Georgetown will practice at the MP Hill Fitness Center and Oregon will work out at Zoeckler Station Fitness Center. The following day, the teams are scheduled for practices at their respective sites and then they will conduct Youth Basketball clinics for 120 family members ages 7-13, of active duty military, Department of Defense civilians and contractors with U.S. identification cards, at 5-6 p.m. On Nov. 8, following practice, the teams will dine and serve with the Soldiers at both the Talon Café and the Provider Grill dining facilities, noon-1 p.m. Following lunch, starting around 1:30 p.m., both teams will host a meet and greet at the MP Hill Fitness Center. The day of the game, doors to Super Gym will open at 8 a.m. The majority of tickets to this game will be issued to Camp Humphreys Soldiers, along with U.S. active-duty personnel from throughout Korea. Another 50 tickets were issued to interested family members through a lottery-type system.

I wonder if Georgetown will get more crowd support since 1) we're the underdog and 2) we have a better brand name in basketball (and more famous NBA alumni). Also, most diehard Oregon fans won't be traveling given the huge football game the night before. I'd think we hopefully can get some extra crowd support!

Both schools have extremely limited ticket allotments, so which school travels better will be a non-issue.

Hop has the talent to be a more athletic version of herb pope if he learns to bang down low (bulk up). Even if he doesn't bulk up he still has the tools to be one of the better 4s in the nation despite how turnover prone and inefficient he was in the first half of last season.

I haven't seen anything close to that that would lead me to believe he's one of the better four in the BE, let alone the nation. For the record, I hope you're right because then we'll be very close to NC caliber this year.

Positive note from Jeff Goodman:
GoodmanESPN Jeff Goodman Another little birdie told me that Georgetown big man Josh Smith was very impressive in scrimmage against George Mason.

I don't think you could have picked a player more antithetical to Hopkins than Pope. Hopkins strikes me as a finesse forward while Pope was as physical a forward as I can remember. I certainly hope you're right about his potential. If he makes a big improvement (rebounding!), the Hoyas could be fearsome.

Hopkins hasn't really shown any of these skills to date. But while I think your comparison missed the mark, I do agree with your overall sentiment that there is a lot of potential yet to be realized in Hopkins. If Henry Sims taught us anything, it's that we should never turn the page on players who clearly have talent but just aren't quite grasping the college game as fast as others.

If Hop was even close to Herb Pope, we would've been a final four team last year. He's not even on the radar to being that kind of player. Not only that, Hop and Pope couldn't be more different in style of play or mannerism

Oregon has a great backcourt, but nothing up front. Dameyean Dotson is one of the best players in the PAC-12 and Joe Young is going to be a problem. Mike Moser is ok, sort of a poor man's otto. They're athletic and will try like heck to pressure us. But honestly, we're better - at least our starters are - at most positions. And Markel will be the best player on the floor.
