Gonzaga is huge and deep. Set up to make a run in the tourney. Their biggest problem is not being battle-tested; can come back to bite you when you do have a nailbiter.

I have been saying it for a while now, I am concerned about the depth of this team. That is not to take anything away from the team and all of its accomplishments. If we could get Greg back, I would be feeling a lot better. Porter and Starks will need some rest.

This must be a win. And I would hope by at least double digits, more like 20.

I'd like to see Porter and Starks with no more than 30 minutes in this game. Lets get Bowen and Moses a lot of run. Have some Moses at 5 and Hopkins at 4 time. This means we have to come out early and put the game away in the first half. Would be nice to coast at Villanova as well but I dont know if thats going to happen.

The perceived cumulative effect of minutes played is a non-issue at this point, in my mind.
JTIII should only "rest" players in a game if he feels they are tired and need "rest" in that particular game.
The only time cumulative minutes might become a problem would be in the BE tourney where we play games on consecutive days. But even there, it appears we would max play 3 games back to back to back. Other teams in the tournament will have to play 4 and 5 back to back if they want to advance. As a higher seed, we will have the advantage.
But at this point, I don't believe JTIII will make any playing time decisions because he wants to save a player for a game that takes place 3 days later. It just doesn't matter. Trust me, most of our guys are in elite, peak physical condition and their bodies bounce back the next morning as long as they are smart about sleep and hydration.
Depth might be a concern within a game, i.e., fouls, winded, tired legs. But this phenomenon certainly does not carry over from game to game in the regular season and NCAA tourney game formats. And in the BE tourney, we should hopefully have the advantage as the higher seed.

Resting 20 year olds is a silly notion. They want to play, not sit on the bench. Besides, if you really want to rest them you hold them out from practice which happens daily, not from a game that happens twice a week. The depth issue is more of a concern if we have foul trouble. I completely agree with that notion, however, I do not buy into this idea that somehow our players are going to get tired from playing in games. They know what March is all about and I have never seen any team go into the most grueling portion of the schedule, the BE championship, without energy.

I don't disagree, but I'm not a junior or senior trying to get a one week package to Cancun or South Padre, or wherever the whippersnappers go these days. I know Dan McQ's progeny has her priorities straight , but if you're buying a travel package, you might not have the flexibility. Totally agree on flipping the start times, but ESPN ain't putting us on anywhere near UNC Puke.

Sad (ok, not really) to think this might be the last time we see the Scarlet Knights at Verizon Center. The Hoyas may be 18-8 against Rutgers in Big East play, but they still can't win by enough to make me forgive them for Geoff Freaking Billet or the unfortunate Valentine's Day I spent at the RAC in 2010.

Ever since the UConn game the Rutgers game is really selling out fast on StubHub. There were alot of good seats before UConn but now they are all being gobbled up.

Great news -- it's far from the ideal weekend for a 9:00 Saturday start, but hopefully the team's success brings a bigger than expected crowd (both student and non-student).

"Over the last seven seasons, there have only been four programs that have been ranked in the top ten each year: Duke, North Carolina, Kansas … and Georgetown." Eat that, JTIII haters!

True and I really didn't notice but I can't remember a schedule this favorable from a rest perspective. Since we split the only ridiculous set (at USF Saturday, at ND Monday), the only quick turnaround was at Rutgers and home vs. Marquette. Pretty easy trip. No problems at all the rest of the way either.

"Over the last seven seasons, there have only been four programs that have been ranked in the top ten each year: Duke, North Carolina, Kansas … and Georgetown." Eat that, JTIII haters! And two of those programs get much more leeway than other programs in the country in terms of ranking. For instance, Duke is ranked ahead of Miami right now. Even a bigger testament to job JT3 and our Hoyas have done than that statement lets on.

Gonzaga is huge and deep. Set up to make a run in the tourney. Their biggest problem is not being battle-tested; can come back to bite you when you do have a nailbiter. The mugging of Kelly Olynyk by the player (Bronson Kaufusi) borrowed from the BYU football team at Provo's Marriott Center in front of 20,000 raucous faithful made it an almost Big East brawl style of game last night. Zags never lost their lead, so it wasn't like the Hoyas' crazy nail-biter up at Gampel that I watched the previous night, but the Zags didn't hold onto the substantial lead they had in the early going. They toughed it out on a night their shots weren't falling amid helpful hints from ESPN commentator Jay Williams about how Few might better plan to overcome the kind of zone BYU threw up. A key player for the Zags, Elias Harris, didn't see as much time in the game as he might normally have, due to nose injury/stitches sustained in a practice earlier in the week. It made a difference in a game like this. Zags' 2 losses have been to Butler on a buzzer beater so tight that it was reviewed and shown to have clocked at .1 of one second, and they lost to Illinois. Interesting pair of losses since, until its 3rd loss to the Gophers, Indiana's 2 losses had been to those same two teams, with Butler taking the Hoosiers into OT to get the win. Been a strange year in college hoops. ;D Rankings are turning out to mean very little in a season where no team is emerging as a national-consensus dominant squad.

Everybody has had their nadir moment as a Hoyas fan entering into the RAC for a game ... mine was 2/11/02 during the Esherick years to watch a thoroughly awful Scarlet Knights team (check out their W-L record that year to verify they were 4-12 in Big East) humiliate the Hoyas.
