Marquette has an ex-duke and ESPN golden boy at the helm now as well. Admittedly however from watching EYBL a fair bit during spring and summer they do have talent. But Jessie slipping to 65 when he's been beasting is laughable.

I like Jessie's goals. And doesn't he look more fit than we've seen him previously? Can't wait to get him to GU - he comes across as a mature young man who knows what he wants. Welcome again Jessie!

Jessie should have stayed at St. Mary's and played with Danny Green's brother (who also left SMHS).

Watched the first half of Govan - he looks great. Tremendous size and length, but also nice touch. He also runs the floor fairly well. I think he is a contributor from day one.

Love it! Isaac needs some quick weak side passes from someone and DSR needs a big to draw some defenders to get his shot off. Paging Mr. Govan... Keep working Jesse!

Been telling people this but no one listens lol. He might not get Josh numbers but opposing teams will have to guard him. He is too talented offensively.

What's also cool is the announcers said that the Wings coaches have Jessie watch Georgetown highlights - both old and new - to give him a sense of the program. Also one of the coaches is Ty Grant, formerly of St. Johns during the Artest era. If you recall this guy had some nice low post moves - can't hurt. Finally it seems like one of the keys for Jessie has been him getting in better shape over the last year.

I watched the game and wow. He can do everything everything offensively: variety of post up moves (drop step, hook shot, etc), alley oops, 12 foot jumpers, kicked out to perimeter shooters when doubled, he even had a jab step baseline drive for a up and under layup (rimmed out but got the foul). He also has pretty good form from the line. Based on that performance he could be one of the most offensively polished freshman centers we've had in a long, long time.

Cardozo will play Wings Academy on Saturday at 4 p.m. for the championship. The consolation game between Long Island Lutheran and Cardinal Hayes will start at 2. Wings beat Hayes, 62-54, in the second game behind 29 points and 13 rebounds from Georgetown-bound big man Jessie Govan. Smooth in the post, Govan looks like he could be the next great Georgetown big man. Cardinal Hayes simply had no answer. Desure Buie, who is headed to Hofstra next year, scored 13 for Wings. Baron Goodridge led Cardinal Hayes with 19 points. “We’re going to do what we do,” Wings Academy coach Billy Turange said. “We like to get out in transition. In the halfcourt set, we’re going to pound the ball inside. Cardozo will have a tough time against the 6-foot-11 Govan, given that the tallest player for the Queens team is 6-foot-6. Wings has three players over 6-foot-7 and will likely dominate on the glass. “I think [Govan is] just touching on how talented he really is,” Turnage said. “I think he picked the perfect school [in Georgetown].” zagsblog.com/articles/ray-salnave-shines-at-sny-invitational/

I agree; an extremely impressive arsenal for a 6'10" high school kid. I was also pleasantly surprised that he seemed more athletic/mobile and showed better leaping ability than I expected. From watching his junior year videos to last night's game, he's really improved in that area. Even though his competition was quite poor last night, I still think he has the tools to contribute offensively right away. However, it will be interesting to see if he's able to defend and rebound against college bigs who are the same size and have the same skill level/athleticism as he does. In the first half, I noticed he really didn't do a good job of locating opponents when shots go up and boxing out. He still gets rebounds because he's so much bigger and stronger than opponents, but he'll need to improve on that for next year. All in all, we're very lucky to have him and I think he's going to score a ton of points in his G'town career.

His HS coach thinks he chose "the perfect school"! That's what we want all these HS and AAU coaches to be thinking about their young bigs. Things keep getting better and better for GU. Now, back to today's game v "quette and Current Hoya big Josh.
