Not sure I remember back to back performances by a guard in the jt3 era as impressive as Markel's against ucla and Indiana. Anyone?
If the kid continues to play with this confidence...watch out!

He had some great games last year too. Question for him will be consistency and whether he can become a decent assist guy as well. We need to find a way to get our forwards and centers more easy layups/points and usually that falls on the point guard driving and dishing. Indiana's guards were excellent at it last night.

I'm still wondering if any other Hoya in III's era has ever had back-to-back 20 points plus games.

I'll say it....I'm not even sure if III instructs his guards to do that during practices. None of our guards have done that on the regular during the past eight or so seasons. Jabril seems both willing and capable of executing the drive and dish though.

I'm still wondering if any other Hoya in III's era has ever had back-to-back 20 points plus games. Well, Henry Sims scored 20 and 22 in the BET last year. Jason Clark also scored 20+ pts in the last two games at Maui.

How quickly we forget some of the very good guards that have played for JT3, Freeman and Wright immediately come to mind as guards who likely scored back to back 20s. I wouldnot be surprised if Jason Clark had also achieved this.
Anyway, Markel was great the last two games. For all the crap he took on this board for the first 2 games, I think he showed how he can play when feeling confident and having Otto on the floor to open things up. Markel is a very capable player and scorer. He will never be a big assist guy but he does not need to be, that is not how III runs the offense. Markel's play was a key reason for the Hoyas success in the last 2 games.
Like Dhall wrote, the key for Markel is consistency. I think he will show up for the big games, but we need him every game.

Freeman, Wright, Clark all had consecutive 20 point games, Austin had consecutive 30 point games once I believe..

I know that we've had players score in the 20's for a string of games. But here we played against two ranked opponents, one being the best team in the country, and he went off both nights. Love the way he's playing and how he his taking what being given to him.

Didn't Austin once score 80 points in the second half against UCONN? Or was that the kid from Grinnel?

What Markel did the last 2 nights was great, but it seems that people took Austin for granted. He would fill it up on a NIGHTLY basis. Performances like Markel had in Brooklyn were the rule and not the exception for Austin during his junior season and parts of his senior year. Hopefully, Markel can bring that type of consistency. If he does, then this team is truly stacked. Three players on this team could average 15 a night (Markel, Otto, Greg). Hopkins will average in double digits. Nate will be right around 10 a game if what we saw the first few games wasn't an anomaly. Then, all you need is a scoring punch from one person off the bench, whether its DSR, Jabril, or someone else. We have a very complete team this year. If Hayes or Moses can offer us 10 productive, relatively error-free minutes a game, we'll be extremely hard to beat.

Of course, Austin also let in almost the same amount of points by his terrible D so I'd bet markel's net gain is much better.

I should have been more specific...I was really referring to point guards. My point being ...his showing at barclay's was as good or better than what I remember from Ashanti cook, Chris wright, jwall, etc.. He played like an elite pg against top notch competition.

Chris Wright had 27 and 6 against Cuse #3, 15 and 4 vs Marquette, and 20 and 7 against WVU #6 in the BE tourney Junior year… That being said Markel was lights out, we can definitely agree on that..

I thought Markel had good moments on defense in the zone too. His offense, which is really what we are talking about was great. I was very impressed with the variety of his shots. Strong drives to the hoop, some well contested, deep spot-up 3s, some jumpers off the dribble and, most impressive to me, and much like Austin, a strong mid-range game. Some of the mid-range shots he hit the last 2 nights made me think he's been working with Tony Parker. The mid-range game is a great weapon for him. I'm rooting for him to prove to people that he's taken his game to the next level. He's not going to be leading the Big East in assists, but that's not needed on this team. He just needs to get his share. He's a scoring guard and the way he's playing will make for a world of difference in how teams game-plan us.
Congrats to the kid.

Yeah, his offense has overshadowed a bit how many turnovers he's caused on D. He's a better defender than last year, but he also is forcing a lotore turnovers specifically. His TO rate is over double last year's and it is up near Otto's.

Otto's and specifically Greg's emergences have been the best thing for Markel
