Keep it up Markel! I always thought he had the ability and smarts to be an outstanding college guard. He just has to maintain his consistency, game-in and game-out. By having played against two of the better college teams this year, should only boost his confidence.

Now, I can see where Markel may have Pro potential someday. It is vital that a guard can shoot to make it in the NBA. Guards are "a dime, a dozen", so they have to have something extra (speed, quickness, vision/passing ability and/or outstanding shooting ability) going for them to make it.

Had to bump this thread.
The young man is having an All Big East caliber season and has really stepped up all season when we needed him.
Keep it up 'Kel.

Was thinking tonight that Markel is going to get some consideration for All Big East squad if he keeps this up. Very impressive performance once again.

'Kel has been doing it all season, but he's been playing with such confidence and authority the last few games. He's becoming a true floor leader and is now officially the yang to Otto's ying.
I am trying to take deep breaths and temper my expectations, but I really like what we're seeing from this team. If Greg returns after the mid-terms, the sky is truly the limit.
So, who thinks it's just about time to start warming up the engines to the non-stop express train to MEGAFANLAND! Who's with me? Better get your tickets ASAP as they're selling like hot cakes!!!

Had to bump this thread. The young man is having an All Big East caliber season and has really stepped up all season when we needed him. Keep it up 'Kel. I would have to think that Markel's play and to certain extent DSR's too has put a big dent in the " myth" that guards are held back in JT3's system. I hope the staff is putting a highlight reel to show the guard recruits. Markel has really shined this year both offensively & defensively..

I really think that Starks and DSR are crucial for us. Our best offensive lineup is definitely Starks-DSR-Porter-Lubick + anybody else. Often times, it seems that the offense stagnates when DSR isn't out there. I realize his shooting has been weak at times, but he can create shots and force the opposing team to defend him, which has positive consequences for everybody else. Teams cannot just double Porter up all the time because there are other options.

Yes! Welcome back to the Board, MEGA. You always know its go-time in CBB season when MEGA arrives.
Superior guard play from Markel is absolutely essential for this team to advance in March. Markel has far exceeded expectations this year and primed himself for All-BE contention.

I think he has to be one of the most underrated guards in the country because Otto gets all the attention on this team. But Markel is absolutely huge for us, and he is putting up phenomenal numbers.

Great run for Markel. I really hope he can keep it up. As a junior, I think he is beyond just putting together a good streak of games, I think he knows how to play at this level and he is doing it night in and night out. He and Otto will determine how far we go this year for sure.

I think guard is going to be tough unless they do 4 guards +1 big for both 1st and 2nd team...
Who would be considered if the season ended today? Guards: Harrison Russ Smith Kilpatrick Jerian Grant Markel Cotton Triche MCW Napier Cashmere Vander Blue Siva
Forward/Center: Otto CJ Fair Cooley Dieng Melvin

I can't see Markel's traditional stats beating out a lot of those guys. MCW and Russ Smith, for better or worse, are locks. Maybe if, as someone said, there are eight guards but that won't happen, either (Dieng, Otto, etc).
I think Markel's route to All-Big East lies in a Georgetown Regular Season Championship.
