Not for nothing but I was ready a Kennedy Meeks thread on the UNC Forum where one of the posters was claiming we lead at this point fwiw.. Anyways the conversation quickly turned to how UNC can’t seem to land any of their big recruits, and then they went on to list all of the prospects they recently missed on. I guess the point is no matter who you are, excluding Kentucky, you miss on more than you get. As far as fit is concerned, our offense would be a perfect fit for Vonleh and his skills. He can score at all three levels and this offense would allow him to do that, more so than 90% of the offenses out there. You have a link to that thread on the UNC board? Would like to read it. My bad it was the Vonleh thread where they were talking about prospects they missed on.. but here is a link to both… mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=78&f=1410&t=9955615 (Meeks) mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=78&f=1410&t=9729408 (Vonleh)

Evan Daniels at scout reported that IU dropped out for Anya to focus on Vonleh. I think that is really strange because just yesterday i read a report from one of the big guys (cant remember who it was) that said Anya was leaning IU.

He was from what I heard. They must feel good about Vonleh. They had Anya wrapped up from what I understand.

Also tells you what coaches think of Anya--who has been/is vastly overrated and has limited upside.

Also tells you what coaches think of Anya--who has been/is vastly overrated and has limited upside. Not necessarily true. They wouldnt recruit him that hard if they didnt think he'd be an impactful player. i think that says more about what they think of Vonleh. But I guess we know how you feel about Anya, good to know.

Indiana oversigns every year--they are already 2 over going into next year-and Anya wanted to commit to them--and you add that Crean has a Takeover guy on staff--and they drop him for Vonleh-who isn't a lock for them---UNC is on him hard as well. If you've seen Anya play--what does he do well? Is he a great rebounder? Does he show up against better competition? He has no offensive skill set that is reliable and defensively, he's a marginal shot blocker. This is a guy that some recruiting sites were ranking as a top 15 prospect in the country. Top 15 prospects don't get told to look elsewhere. There were many upset Georgetown wasn't as aggressive in recruiting him--how would he fit? What does he do well?

I'd like to see a credible rankings site that has him in the top 15 now. He's physical, he has an astronomical wingspan, and he's a force. Those are his strengths. I also think that he's better than a marginal shotblocker. For the most part he uses his length well to contest shots. He's been working on his body a lot since last summer and is still transforming it to develop his overall game. I'm not claiming that he is a finished product, because he is far from it, but I do think he has the ability to be a pretty solid player. The real question is which 2013 centers would you take over him?

The real question is which 2013 centers would you take over him? Agree with you about '13 being weak on C position--but I'd still take Taylor, Kingsley, Woodson, Meeks--while not as athletic is more productive, Washington, Facey, Smith, and if you want an undersized PF type-Torren Jones is a better player and that doesn't even take into account the PF who could play C spot in this class--some of which you could say I've listed but Lee, Walker, etc... liked a kid from Bluff City's team David Onuorah more then I liked Anya (Onuorah is big/great frame and did a lot of little things well and showed up against good competition in spot minutes, should've played more as he fit an area Bluff City was weak)--as Anya had put back on some bad weight and was just outclassed in EYBL--guys were too skilled and he didn't impact games on either end. He doesn't finish well near rim and he doesn't protect the rim well against better competition--nobody is afraid to challenge him-which is why I'd classify him as a marginal shot blocker. Anya reminds me of a less talented/shorter Jahidi White, and that is a project. Always have thought if Anya wanted to pursue a career in athletics, he should play football. His talents translate better to that sport then basketball. Good feet and size won't be a problem at all-unless you are a skilled offensive player, it's hard to be an undersized 5--and wingspan is great--but would serve him better as an OT/DL more then it will for him in basketball. Lots of guys have long arms and don't use it to their advantage in basketball. Jason Clark had great wingspan and had chance to be a great defensive player but didn't turn out that way.

Back to Vonleh, if there is ever a better replacement for Porter's possible departure--it would be Vonleh--he can play 4/3 positions and is an elite player. Same temperment on the court as Otto and one of the best players in country no matter the class. If anything--think he's underrated as a top 10 player--he's a top 5 talent and great understanding of the game--can impact the game when he doesn't have the ball/isn't scoring and that is what separates great players from peers.

I just don't see us getting Vonleh though. Hope I'm wrong but I don't like the competition.

I don't know. Call it an intuitive sense, but I think our chances are pretty good with Vonleh.

I agree with you PoD ( see my earlier post about $chool$) and I'm not saying he's that type of kid. One good thing is he doesn't play for a huge AAU outfit (much like Looney, who I love, btw) That can work to Hoyas advantage in some respects. Saying that, Hoyas have increased love for Vonleh, which may be some tea leaf reading into Meeks. Or it could just be protective reasoning or they may want both. ha ha ha
