Its not that they are recruiting at his position, it is that they are recruiting at scholarship spots we currently don't have. A reason why one might open up is that he would leave. Coaches have to keep recruiting. Just because there aren't any schollies left doesn't mean they just stop recruiting 2013 altogether. Tyler is currently using a scholarship that will become available when we need it. And it's not that I'm "hoping Otto will come back", I'm just considering all angles of the situation. Nothing is set in stone yet. I mean even Terrence Jones passed up the opportunity at the NBA after his first year. Pretty much the only reason a player would decide to do that is if he thought he had a chance at a national championship the following year. Add a 5 star center and we could compete as soon as next year. Imagine what this roster would look like with Nerlens....there would be 3 NBA guys in our starting 5 and they would all be plus defenders. That is more than enough to win in college basketball. All it takes is one guy to take us over the hump. It worked out horribly for Terrence Jones.

He won a national championship, he was able to clear up some misconceptions about his game/personality, and he was still a top 20 pick and has shown that he can play in the NBA. He only got drafted like 6-8 spots lower. I'm not saying thats the ideal result, but its far from horrible. From a financial standpoint, yes it hurt, but everything else worked out for him.

I plan to have a more in-depth assessment of this issue soon, but for now, take a look at comments from a few top 100 prospects.
I asked each of them a simple question: How much does conference affiliation matter to you when choosing a school?
*Reggie Cameron, 2013, committed to Georgetown: “On a scale of 1-10, about a seven.” (Cameron, who had offers from B1G, ACC and Big East schools, added that coach and playing time are two more important factors).

"What was your least favorite part of the recruiting process?
Having to tell the schools that I’m going to commit somewhere else. It’s difficult because of the relationship you build with these coaches. From the end of your junior year through the summer and into your senior year, you talk to them like every week so you build a relationship. It’s hard because they’re all great people."
I like this kid. Sounds like a JTIII type young man.

A few excerpts. Long story short, Cameron is about the same size as Staukus and a similarly gifted shooter.
"From a personnel standpoint, Georgetown has a young team and should return all five starters next season. Nevertheless, a sharp-shooting stretch forward is a vacant role on this year’s team and a spot where Cameron fits. Greg Whittington was supposed to play the part, but while he’s leading the team in 3-point attempts, he’s converting just 23.7 percent of those attempts.
"In other words, Georgetown has a definite need for the special skill that Cameron can provide. Like Stauskas, his niche will earn him plenty of early minutes while the return of an otherwise veteran lineup will ensure that he won’t need to try to do too much.
"While we watch Stauskas continue to thrive during his freshman season at Michigan, chances are pretty good we could see a similar story with Cameron next year at Georgetown. "

zagsblog.com/articles/georgetown-commit-cameron-would-love-to-catholic-7-add-butler-xavier-dayton-gonzaga/So where does that leave the 6-foot-8 Cameron — Georgetown’s lone signee in the Class of 2013 — and his future Georgetown teammates going forward? “The seven Catholic schools that will all be in it together, those are seven really good schools right there,” Cameron told SNY.tv after scoring 14 points as Hudson (N.J.) Catholic beat St. Peter’s Prep, 64-46, at the Hoop Group Showcase at West Orange High School. “And then they’re talking about adding Xavier, Butler, Gonzaga, Dayton. Those are some more good schools, so I think it’s still going to be a power conference whatever happens.” He added: “Xavier, they dominate the A-10 every year. Butler, they just beat [No. 1] Indiana [Saturday]. Gonzaga is a national power every year and then there are other schools like Dayton that are good in the A-10. They’re talking about VCU maybe.”

We've talked recently about how valuable to spacing having our PF be able to hit the corner three.
Welcome, Reggie Cameron!

This is the type of guy we need, a scorer, a shooter with length. Some see him as redundant to Domingo but I don't mind having two tall shooters on the court, that can only be a positive in my mind. When these guys are causing all types of mis-matches on offense we will all be very happy.

Watched him play last night, they got blown out by O’Connell in the second half. Trimble was the best player on the floor. They face guarded Reggie the whole game and switched on every screen, he’s not a great athlete so he struggled to get free and finished with 15. Still do not know what position he can defend at the next level, foot speed is not an attribute.
Offensively his shot is compact, quick, and he repeats the motion over and over again. Made a couple deep 3’s, struggles when he has to put it on the floor, has little lift, and didn’t do much on the glass at all..

I watched the whole game too and I was actually impressed with his ability to put the ball on the floor and create space to get off his jumper on a few occasions and he looks comfortable from NBA range on his deep ball.

I think everyone was expecting him to be a role player. If he can shoot it like Stauskas the guy at Michigan which I've heard his shooting ability compared too, that is a role player I will take everyday of the week.
