Kevin Broadus on Markel, "Our guy, our leader, our point guard."

I agree with Coach B. I think everyone has underestimated Markel. I bet he has as good or better junior year as Chris Wright.

Are you sure you're not confusing Kevin Braswell and Kevin Broadus again, otto?

Calling someone a leader doesn't make him so. Markel does have the built-in advantage of being the oldest/second oldest guy on the team next year as well as the point guard but it's going to take more than a title to actually lead, especially with so much younger talent under him. With that said, I would say it's worth any price for the University to ensure that Markel's summer courseload includes *some* kind of organizational leadership/transformation class

If Markel takes the reins next year and truly leads it will be a plus for the team. I have a feeling that there are a number of guys on this squad with leadership qualities, but that they all know how to work together for one goal.

When you hear Markel speak and read his quotes, I would agree he is the most likely candidate to become the leader of this team. I was extremely impressed how he handled his benching after the SHU game. That showed a level of maturity I am not sure is common anymore in college basketball.
Although I expect a very nice jump in his production, I very much doubt Markel has anywhere near the junior year CW had stats wise. But this team needs someone to step up and be the voice and leader, and from a personality standpoint, Markel fits well in that role.

He was better than Marshall coming out of high school as an overall prospect. Not as a passer but overall. He just doesn't have 4 all americans to pass to

Agreed Ottomatic. I remember watching him in high school. Every time I watch him I get the sense he's holding back a little. Granted, in high school he had much more freedom, but he played with swag and a sense of creativity. Hope we see that Markel next season.

He just doesn't have 4 all americans to pass to It's debatable - yes, Markel is quicker and shoots better than Marshall. Even with those physical tools, he does not have the swag + IQ to really make good use of them. I do like Markel personally, and would like to see him play better than Marshall, get AA honor, and be able to declare for draft at some point. But that's just my wish.

the swag? Did you see this guy play in high school? He had much more control over the game and could freelance more than he can now, but his middle name was SWAG

I read Broadus' quote as a way of covering over the fact the guy had been benched and providing something to shoot for. I didn't take it to man he'd actually be a team leader.
