I really love the way our recruiting is going right now. These recruits who have committed to the Hoyas appear to really know what the team is about, they appear to be developing the sense of family our program prides itself on already. These tweets where they are excited for each other and the prospect of playing on The Hilltop are awesome!!!!!! This is simply an awesome commit. Love the direction out recruiting is going. Just three years ago we were getting commitments from Brandon Bolden types.....now, its top 50 kids who can't wait to throw on the uniform. Thank you Otto Porter!! I honestly don't know much about Derrickson and am not sure who to compare him to. Reminds a bit of Nova's Pinkston, a bit of Othella down low (with a much better handle), perhaps Draymond Green....any of these names resonate with the recruiting gurus? Jamal Mashburn

Larry (Granda-ma-ma) Johnson. Joking right? No where near the athleticism from what I saw. Doesn't remind me of Mash, or Rodney Rodgers or any of those guys. Seems like more of a space eater, with a good handle and a sweet stroke. Those other guys were monster athletes though.

Looking at his highlights his game and demeanor on the court reminds me of Mashburn. But Mash was a Top 5 recruit when he went to UK. Quite happy with the get by JT3 and staff. Welcome to Hoyanation young Marcus!!! I hope this helps with Bryant.............the last piece of a championship team.............

Great pick up from the staff. Great to get a big time local kid. Gotta defend our turf.

Wow, love Derrickson's highlights, and even moreso his interview. Has a great attitude putting hard work and winning over individual achievements. It's been awhile since we got this highly-rated of a recruit so early on in his high school career. When was the last time? We continue to see the great effects of Otto's success.

GREAT commitment. He looks like a nasty shooter with great height. Gotta thank two people for this one. Otto Porter and Coach Broadus.

Do you think we could assume that B&G knew that, that most of the accolades and credit were already going to JT3 and that B&G was merely mentioning two additional guys who played unsung but critical roles in the successful conclusion of this recruiting effort?
Sometimes folks on this board appear to be so anxious to play "gotcha" and/or to criticize it's embarrassing.
Congratulations all around to Coach, Staff, team, former Hoyas, admin, students, the AAU and HS coaches involved, the long term success of Hoya Basketball started by JT2, DFW for this board, and anyone and everyone else who played a role - oh, I guess that includes Marcus' family... and, of course, Marcus himself! And anyone I might have inadvertently left out.
Well Done! And Welcome Marcus!

Everyone agrees there is lots of thanks and appreciation to go around.

Yes, but sometimes, we are quick to criticize any oversight, omissions, missteps etc. I think it was a foregone conclusion that coach Thompson ultimately deserves the credit. After all, he did hire Broadus.

Just wondering - who was the last sophomore to be first team all-met before Marcus? I think Austin Freeman was one. Seems like that's a pretty good indicator of future success.
