Unanimous approval from the Zoning Commission. Bench decision. Plz translate. I don't speak bureaucratish. The Commission fully understood and appreciated the need for the facility and approved the revised design on the spot. They didn't ask for any further changes and were swayed by the same fact we all are - the current home for all 29 sports dates back to 1951. Markel and Jeff both testified, as did Monica McNutt (women's BB) and Lauren Gray (women's lax). They all did a fantastic job. JTIII and Coach Wiese (men's soccer) also spoke in support along with the Athletic Director. No opposition. Lots of Hoya love. I briefly considered closing out the hearing with Hoya Saxa but decided that might be a little too much. One of the Commissioners is a huge Celtics fan, so he loved seeing Jeff.

tables -- can you share any of the current renderings? The one on Hoyasaxa.com is hard to make out. I can't really tell what this is going to look like.

So is the next step to complete the full building plan for approval?

Wow, Gtown. Nice way to bring out the big guns. This only increases my man crush on Jeff Green even more. And gotta love that Markel was the current player chosen to speak.

Sounds like we really didn't need the big guns. Maybe we should have saved them for the OGB or CFA. Or maybe the Georgetown faculty could focus their efforts on something more productive and write letters to those entities instead of Paul Ryan. ;D

Perhaps it would be quicker and more effective to give an honorary degree to the chairman of the house committee on government reform and the senate chairman of the committee on the district of columbia and ask them to hold up approval on every project before those two boards until they approve ours? Just a thought!

Report from the Wrigley Field event:
JT3, Jeff, Paul Taglibue and Lee Reed were panelists. As we all know, our facility is old and outdated. We need the IAC and it is the #1 Construction priority in the new capital campaign. It's going to cost $60-$65 million to build it. They have 10% of the funds raised. The time line right now is to open during the 2015-16 year after breaking ground in 2014. However, shovels wont go into the ground until 50% of the cash have been raised and 100% of the funds have been given.
They also asked us to donate at the event and to solicit fellow alums to donate. The contacts to make a donation are Assoc. AD W. Blanton Jones (2026872394; wbj@gtown.edu) and Brenda Smith, Dir. of Athletic Development (2026871814; bms43@gtown.edu).
Everyone on this board needs to donate. McD has lost us recruits and hurt our players ability to improve their game and conditioning. If your a Georgetown fan, you need to donate to the IAC

From what I understand, you can also make a donation which takes place over the course of 5 years. For example, you can make a $5k dollar donation and pay $1k a year....and the school counts the entire $5k toward the 50% and 100% benchmarks noted above.

Dude, you are really being an a$$ today, even more than usual. Jeff has more financial uncertainty than most on this Board I'd presume considering the fact that he is coming off of open-heart surgery and has only played in the league a few years. Questioning Jeff's commitment to the program is pretty odious actually. TBird is right -- every GU alum needs to donate; if you are just a fan, I can understand, but if you are a successful GU alum, open the checkbooks. I've already earmarked funds to the IAC and I will do again this year.

Although it came through in typical snide fashion, KC's underlying question is not a bad one. To reinvigorate the fundraising effort, it would behoove the athletic department to announce some time soon that Georgetown's basketball alumni have banded together to donate $X million dollars to the cause.

I'm not sure KC was questioning the commitment of Jeff green to the program. If he was, then thats ridiculous. However, if he's asking how much our basketball alum are donating, I think that's a fair question and I'd be curious too. Carmelo was only at cuse one freakin year and contributed significantly to their facility so I would expect our alum to do the same which they may be doing.

Breaking ground in2 freaking years??? Might be a little too late to save this program. I hve to say I've been positive about the program going forward, but I'm really starting to feed into negativity going forward given Kirby leaving and reports from events re: how we play and realignment most likely continuing. We need to win somehow with the group we've got and win big if we have any shot of staying relevant. There are some big big obstacles to overcome at this point.
