And yes, Boeheim does deserve COY. He recruited, gameplanned and adjusted his way to one loss in conference (missing his starting center). Can they at least force Boeheim to formally share the award with Hess, Donato, and his scorekeeper?

To the victor go the spoils, not to the distant 2nd, 3rd, 4th place finishers. I'd just make the prize an evening out with Mrs. Fine. And second prize is an evening in with Mrs. Fine.

The team is no longer being judged by preseason prognostications, but by its performance over the past four months. And hurry up with that, because if memory serves, in about a month the team will be judged solely by its performance in its final tournament game.

Just a couple thoughts as we head into the end of the season, the BET and the NCAAs. It's a time of the season that brings out the best and the worst of this Board. This Board has a proud tradition of everyone jumping on the bus to the final four no matter how it's running when things are going good and finding someone- coaches or players, even fellow posters, to throw under the bus when things do not go so well. It would be refreshing to see a little more balanced approach. We are all fans, as in fanatical, of the Hoyas, I hope, but the swings in emotion are a little much sometimes. FWIW.

Wow. after tonight's action looks like if we win at Marquette, we finish 2nd! If we lose we could drop as far as 6th? A big game indeed. Whatever the outcome, this has been a fun year watching these kids develop with Jason leadership.

I was also wondering if I should post a polite request for no one to [deleted] off the basketball gods over the next couple of days, but I think slim and fat might be going out for seconds at the all-nite buffet on that one. Side note: when's the last time we counted on another team to help us and they actually came through?

It should be a good one. Hoyas are 6-4 against MU since they joined the Big East, including 3 straight Hoyas victories. But we're also just 1-3 in Milwaukee, with the only W coming in 2008 thanks to Jon "Ice in His Veins" Wallace sinking 3 free throws with 2 seconds left in regulation to tie it and then banking in an overtime three. The Hoyas then prevented Marquette from getting a shot off in their final OT possession.
Indeed, all but one of the Milwaukee showdowns between these two programs since MU joined the Big East have been close:
Feb. 16, 2006: MU 57, (17) GU 51 (one of the worst games of Jeff Green's career on the Hilltop)
Mar. 1, 2008: (10) GU 70, (21) MU 68 (OT) (the Wallace game mentioned above--Roy Hibbert was also terrific with 20 points)
Feb. 21, 2009: (8) MU 94, (25) GU 82 (a clearly overmatched Hoyas team, somehow still ranked despite having lost four straight coming in, lost in its final appearance in the 2009 polls)
Jan. 6, 2010: MU 62, (12) GU 59 (a game the Hoyas should have won, in which Chris Wright missed a game-tying 3 with one second left. MU was carried by the greatest night of backup guard David Cubillan's career. Cubillan went an absurd 6 of 6 from 3-point range).
As you can see, the dynamic for this one will be slightly different given that this is the first time since 2009 and only the second time ever in Milwaukee that Marquette has been the higher ranked of the two teams going into the game.
One other note that may interest only me: in every year of the JTIII era in which the Hoyas have gone to the NCAA Tournament, they've beaten the Golden Eagles. In 2007 and 2011, those wins came at Verizon Center. In 2008, obviously the win came in Milwaukee. And in 2006 and 2010, after losing to Marquette on the road, the Hoyas secured revenge with victories at the BET. This streak will continue, of course, because the Hoyas have already beaten Marquette once this year.

It is one tough place to play. Even though it is an NBA style arena, it is an extremely loud and hostile college hoops environment. It is one of those places where you feel slightly unsafe rooting for the visiting team (that doesn't stop me). The fans are pretty intense and they have a nice history they draw on, from the Al McGuire 1970s teams to more recently Dwayne Wade.

One optimistic trend thus far is Gtown is 7-0 playing teams more than once -- Memphis, St Johns, Providence, Marquette. If this keeps up, bodes well for Saturday and Big East Tournament.

I think that was the point being made.

F you Jason King. ESPN.com: Jason King - Making the leap as March approachesAt least one No. 14 seed will win its first-round game. As of Tuesday, Joe Lunardi had the matchups as Baylor versus Nevada, Georgetown versus Belmont, Michigan versus Akron and Marquette versus Middle Tennessee State. Out of those matchups, Georgetown-Belmont catches my eye. The Hoyas have been bad in the NCAA tournament lately and, don't forget, the Bruins almost upset Duke in Durham at the beginning of the season.

I think that was the point being made. I got that. But we haven't played Marquette twice. We are 6-0 against teams we've played twice. After Saturday, we will be either 8-0 or 7-1, but until that game, we've only played three teams twice. Also, Marquette is a tad bit better than Providence, St. John's and Memphis, so you, know, your mileage may vary.
