Classic letdown scenario for the Hoyas. There is no reason to think that St. John's will win or be competitive. That is the very reason for the coach to be on guard. I am not worried about players not trying, but instead a situation where players are trying too hard to put the Johnnies away too quickly.

Yea - Im worried too. Need to finish strong obviously.
would love to see: Henry STRONG bounceback game (15, 8, 8) Hollis - involved throughout (20+) Markel finding his shot and driving consistently (8, 5 dimes) Clark / Otto the usual. combined 20 pts, 5 dimes, 12 boards.

I want us to pound it inside and get lots of finishes from Henry and Hopkins. St. John's is down to 6 real players. I would love to get two of them to foul out and force them to play walk ons.

There's no reason we shouldn't hammer the Jonnies by 20 and be able to watch Bowen get 5-8 minutes.

I'm not really too concerned about a let down.
first of all we lost the game so I don't think the team is riding super high on themselves that they'll let down.
second looking at the schedule we haven't let down after big games. Only one I would argue would be providence after the louisville win. I don't think we let down against WV after the marquette win, I think we just lost.

Question for the board - is Bowen:
a - a transfer concern? b - going to get legitimate minutes in his career here (assuming he stays) c - a freakish athlete without a jumpshot?
Just curious what folks here think given some have observed him in Kenner, HS etc.

I think that Bowen is a very solid player. I mean the kid averaged 19 points a game on quincy miller's high school team and he is a good basketball player. In Kenner he is always competing, crashing the boards, demanding the ball in late game situations, playing good defense. He definitely is a streaky player, but a lot of his time has been spent recovering from shoulder injury(ies?). I think that he's in his current situation because of a) we don't NEED him to play minutes at the 2-3 really, we have depth there. and b) aybe he has yet to fully grasp the offense, it takes time but theres no reason to believe he won't get there. Count me in the group of people who think that he would fit in very well at a more up-down place like Dayton (Vee) or Memphis or something. I don't mean to make him seem like he's better than he is, but I definitely think he's a lot better than he/this board gives him(self) credit for.

I would be concerned if Nate thought he could take a year off to work on his game and then finish with two years playing someplace else with a chance to play professionally after that (see: Macklin).

Wait, what? Huh? How did Nate just get thrown in there? Isn't this a discussion of the St. johns game?

It's also the coldest winter in Europe for a while, and Nate got blamed for that. Championship teams need role players, Nate does what III asks him to do. He is much better contributor as a soph than Henry was.The TV announcers don't cut up Vanilla like this board does.

I'm saying I hope he is happy with his role and his progression and doesn't think about going the Macklin route. To tie it all together, I'd like to see Nate go for 12 and 8, with 4 assists and 2 blocks against St. John's!

This would be a game that I would have expected a letdown if we hadn't played so poorly offensively. Henry, Hop, Hollywood, and Markel should be upset and should come out ready to prove something. I really expect to see this game get out of hand early in the 2nd half and our bench should be getting 5 mins of experience..............

Just don't play down to the level that SJU is playing now. Take your time and convert those layups. Henry has to square up on his midrange jumper; no turnaround or off balance jumpers. Everybody comes to play.

If Hoyas play with same tenacity and focus they did at Cuse, we will beat this team by 30 points. Problem is we play down to competition and will probably give them a chance to win. Hoyas win by 7. No time for Caprio/Bowen tomorrow, unfortunately. Mark it down.
