Agree in principle EtomicB. However, we're not getting elite players on either the local or national scene. Therefore, our best move is to get back to basics and try to start locking down the best DMV talent again, like we did for years. That's where it all started back in the 1970s. If we can get more elite local players, we can get back into the game for national elite players. I'm old enough to remember when Al Dutch committed. That was a big deal at the time and a big pump in the arm that led later to Duren and Shelton who then led to many others, locally and nationally.
A good place to start might be having the WCAC playoffs at Gtown. We need to reconnect to the local hs scene (since we are losing the local AAU scene)

Billy Lynn from Spingarn. JTII recruited the local kids.

I hear what you are saying, but the world has changed in so many ways. What JT2 was able to accomplish was due to a confluence of factors. The right moment in time, so to speak. That said, no reason we can't compete for and land some local guys.

Isn't Waters elite? It may be just a tiny ripple in a large pond, but at least it's something.

Target kids who can play JT3's system and then it should be 1st come 1st serve..

Gotta play the odds. We are not Duke or Kentucky (atleast not anymore). In fact, we are quickly becoming DePaul and St Johns. We cant compete for the best players on the national scene at the moment (although I cant comment on Waters bc I havent seen him play). We have a fighting shot at swinging above our present pay grade on the local scene where alot of dads, grand dads, and uncles grew up as die hard Hoyas fans. Back to basics is the path forward.

Perversely it's sometimes harder to get local kids to stay local. Many don't want to.

Same with Josh Hart. How someone thought Domingo and Cameron and others were better than Hart and Jenkins is beyond me. Perhaps coaches were more interested in being thought of as a national program who recruits nationally. Or, they wanted longer players. Either way, we should have grabbed the elite local players. A big screw up.

A big screw up. What!!!! Domingo was a Top25 kid. Everyone thought he was better than Hart and Jenkins. There isn't one coach in the country that would've taken Hart or Jenkins over Domingo. Not even Jay. I think if he goes to a basketball factory for his senior year over coming to Gtown early his story is different. You'll never know....

I guess that's a third possibility. Coaches were caught up in rankings instead of what they were seeing on the floor. I never saw Domingo play in hs but I saw him play at Gtown. Sorry, no way his game compared to Josh Hart in hs. Hart was elite in hs (like Melo). Jenkins was a step behind (even though he, not hart, was DC player of the year). Domingo looked lost from day 1. Not sure how we missed that so badly. BTW, Domingo has done nothing at Cal. 2.2 pts a game as a fifth year senior.

Again, a big issue with Jenkins was how out of shape he was. He still doesn't have a pro position, but if he had stayed that heavy, he wouldn't have had a college position either.

Domingo was supposed to be in the same class as Hart and Jenkins but since he had enough credits he graduated early. He went to Gtown during what should have been his senior year in HS. He wasn't physically or mentally ready for college ball. If he would have went to Oak Hill I think we get a more ready product and his confidence never gets shaken.....the kid was killing it his soph and jr seasons. And I'm talking against the top comp......Domingo might have been 5* by the time he reach the hilltop. If you want to debate over Cameron I can agree but there is no debate over Domingo.....

KRIS JENKINS WANTED TO COME TO GTOWN!!! FACT! Read the first page of this thread.... literally everyone ragging on him. Problem of Dog : "Doesn't have a position. Too small to be a 4, too slow to guard 3s." RDF : "ID, these two aren't even close to being similar. Kris Jenkins is closer to the out of shape Austin Freeman at GTown and Devonta Pollard is a sleek, big time athlete." "I don't want any part of Jenkins or most of the DMV guys I've seen with TakeOver, Assault or any of the local HS teams lately. It's been a down cycle for talent in this area and I know some guys are going to big time programs--but from what I've seen, Georgetown did right to not get them or got lucky they didn't want to come." alleninxis : "I would say it's natural for recruiting areas to go in cycles. And right now, the DMV is down, way down." gahoya, ripping the only guy pro-Jenkins in the thread : "I think hsb IS kris jenkins. If not him, then his brother. Trying to get a plug on a website. Isn't it a little bit of a stretch to compare a high school junior who apparently isn't even that good to Dennis Scott and Charles Barkley?"

Yes, if you're working under the assumption that highly paid head coaches and assistant coaches at the college level should not be any better at evaluating talent than a bunch of nobodies on a message board. Unfortunately, in the real world, these aforementioned coaches should be far better at identifying and evaluating players. And ours have largely been horrendous at it in recent years.

I agree with you pretty much on all counts, but it's still an inexact science, which is why there are hits or misses. Should we have taken Josh Hart? No doubt. Did anybody think he'd be as good as he turned out to be? I don't know, but if so, it was a small minority.

I've know Jenkins since he was a big sixth grader with UNBELIEVABLE skills for his age. Nate Britt (UNC guard) as well These kids were considered some of the best in the country. I worked with them at The Hoopgroup Top 100 out in McLean, VA. Now, as far as talent in the DMV, and it ever being down? ? WHENNNNNNNNNNNNNNN? ? The DMV for a few years has been some, if not, the best talent in the USA!!! Team Takeover, that's my bro Keith Stevens organization! My son played for Newport JV summer league where Keith was the coach along with Sedrick and coach Chaney. This is way before Keith had the original Triple Threat team now TTO. When people REALLY learn the game of basketball they'll be able figure this thing out I guess. I don't know lol. The DMV, as far as hoops, has never, ever, been down.

Glide, I have not seen you post much about the current situation. What is your take? I respect your opinion and you are not one to post just to post. Without knowing the end result as far as who is coaching to who will still be here next year, I am not encouraged. What say you?

This is tough especially seeing a lot of our fans what our coach out. I can't say I feel the same as they feel for my own personal reasons. I understand how everyone feels. I mean, I know we needed Tremont Waters going into next season. He's gone now. HUGE LOSS!!! Coming into 2016 we lost the kid Bracey from Bmore. A true floor general as they come! I was devastated when we didn't get him! Still, I'm devastated. Will be forever! smh ... hey, thanks for your nice comment as well. Right now, we're in shambles. We need to develop a pipeline of shooters. We need at least one to two floor generals as we speak. A VERY SKILLED BIG. I like length, but I think I like heart more, so size shouldn't be all that much of an issue right now. We have to get back to Hoya ball. Rough, tough and smart basketball.
