Markel was a cold blooded assassin tonight. He definitely earned his own thread tonight.

Agreed. What I find so amazing about his play this year is that I'm both surprised and unsurprised at the same time. On the one hand, I think, "Wow, Starks is suddenly a great player!" On the other hand, it's "He was a highly touted recruit who had to sit behind a very good senior while he was a freshman. Of course he's going to shine when he gets his chance." Whichever is more accurate, I'm glad those are the options.

I was a detractor before the year, but he has played really well this season. I've come to think that he can be a great scoring guard with good handle. Doesn't really set up other people but that's ok if he fills the bucket.

Starks is doing what I and a bunch of other people saw in high school. Of Starks, Thornton and Marshall, I thought we got the best player

Remember, we have point forward/centers. We don't need a point guard.

Ashanti dropped that dime to Hibbert for the buzzer beater over Notre Dame!

Calm down. I'm needling folks here who made such claims about Markl during all the months leading up to this season. I've been doing it for the past few weeks.

So impressed with how he simply takes what the defense gives him and how he hits big shot after big shot. He never forces anything.

Which is great in the Princeton because it's designed to get those wide open looks. I'd say if it's an uncovered wide open shot then he's second on the team to Hollis in draining those. Clark's a little streaky.

What I like about him is that he has the balls to take a shot like a 1 on 3 pull up jumper or a semi-contested 3 when Kuric is sort of paying attention but not really. His confidence is off the charts, and while he doesn't force a lot, he also knows when he can take a risk.

His confidence is off the charts, and while he doesn't force a lot, he also knows when he can take a risk. I didn't like that decision at all on the fast break. There was nobody underneath to rebound that and it was a 1 on 3. It's one where the coach goes what the h . . . good shot. That was really his only bad decision in the game IMO. But he showed tremendous poise and was the dagger that took Louisville's soul everytime they though they were coming back.

When Markel closed the press conference by wishing everyone there "Happy Holidays!", did anyone else think that was the opening shot from the future congressman?
Will we one day see Markel as House Speaker while Jon Wallace is in the White House?
