And the point I was trying to make is that simply scheduling a brand name or a team en vogue is not the same as keeping a big time rivalry on the schedule that will draw no matter the relative strengths of the two teams. Georgetown-Syracuse has value that no other game at Verizon Center could ever have. You hit the nail on the head. Not to mention that if there's a time where the Hoyas are not a top team, the ability to get the likes of Duke, etc., to come to DC will be pretty limited. I'm pretty sure the Duke series started during the Eshrick years so I wouldn't be too concerned with that. Anyways this is all so silly, I don't think anyone is denying that Syracuse will draw crowds and money. (Although I personally seriously doubt that would continue if the one or both of the programs weakened and now aren't in the same league, though that's neither here nor there) The point is they aren't the only team in the country that will do so, so scheduling them isn't imperative to the program's success. There are a lot of teams that will pack the verizon center for a variety of different reasons, and no none of them will replace Syracuse as a rival or bring out the hatred in older fans, but for the most part it will make little impact on our program/season/future/conference of who those teams are. So would it be nice to play Syracuse every year? Sure. Do we need to play them? No. Maybe we have a yearly David Gavitt "tourament" every year in Providence where Syracuse vs US and Nova vs Uconn a few couple of other Big East match-ups. Now that would be something that would get media attention early in the season and help multiple B7 schools.

That particular Syracuse team might not have been championship caliber, but it was the year after their national title - so all their front-running fans were out in full force...

So, just to quickly sum this all up for anyone who is coming to the thread late, it would be kind of silly for Georgetown to walk away from continuing a home-and-home series with Syracuse.

We need to develop a half dozen home & home series with significant OOC opponents as we really need to have 3 good OOC home games each year to bolster the product for ticket sales. The teams can change from year to year but we need the multiple attractive home games. I know this would make the OOC schedule a bear every year, but we will need it for RPI bolstering and ticket sales.

The only way to ever consider a neutral site GU-Cuse game would be as part of a 3 game package - Home/Away/MSG

And the way the neutral site MSG or Barclays game works is if it is played during the Christmas break when neither schools' students are on campus

I think all we have determined is Georgetown would be silly to walk away from a home and home series with any Marquee opponent.

We all know Syracuse is NEVER coming to DC for an OOC game so let us move on to teams that will

No home and home with Duke - we can never get a fair game at their place. We should obviously continue to play rivals like Syracuse, UConn, Pitt as much as possible. I'll buy you a unicorn if Georgetown and Pittsburgh sign up to play a series.

I really like this idea and although there is a plethora of early season tournaments, nothing with teams that are historic rivals. Also if it were done later in the OOC schedule rather then to open the season, it could bring even more exposure.

I'd believe it if it was from a source other than ESPN. They aren't the most trust worthy source when it comes to realignmnet , the "Big East", or the ACC.
