Right now I'm imagining a grinning JTIII bursting through my office wall with a giant pitcher of kool aid...just like in the commercials.
Ahhh, March Madness...

UCONN did not play like a Final 4 team last night, but the potential is there. If I had to pick a Final 4 team from the BE, it would be Nova right now. If I had to pick someone to win it all, it would be UNC.

Love Kool-Aid.
I just don't trust the talking heads and the doom and gloom.
Overall our resume is squarely on the bubble. Ultimately our bad finish will probably doom us, but we have a lot of intangibles.
I just believe the committee at the end of the day puts 10 teams on the board and asks who can win on a neutral court with a style of play that can cause problems. We have proven we can beat good teams away from Home and play really tough in teh BE Tourney.
Are we a game short? Probably. But, when you look at a team like NC St. that "everyone" now says is in i get some hope. Because when I look at them vs. us or ND then I feel some hope.

UCONN made almost every shot they took last night in the second half. UCONN shot 54% overall, 54.5 % from 3-pt range last night. And yet we STILL had a chance to win it at the end of the game. Give G'town credit. Don't listen to what Calhoun said. G'town played their butts off. They made stops towards the end of the game, and dictated the tempo of the game to bring it down to the wire

For those of you who were there in '82, let me tell you that last night left me with a similar feeling. The disappointment is tempered by the promise of the future. I was heartbroken when Freddie made the pass, but there was that same feeling of pride of what the Hoyas had accomplished that year. And the thought of Patrick and the boys for another 3 years again gave my hope enough strength to carry me through. Today I have that same feeling. What a future!!!

Someone check the gates of hell, they have to be frozen today... _way, completely agree with you - UConn played GREAT last night, and we were with them step for step. After watching UConn last night in the 2nd half, I can only imagine what it must have been like to have watched the '85 game, because I can't remember a shot that they missed in the first 15 minutes. But we stuck with them right up until then end. Don't sell us short - UConn is the best final 4 contender the BE has - probably one of the hottest teams in the country right now. I still think 'Nova is going to win the BET, but UConn will be in St. Louis, I think. Still keeping hope alive...

I agree. UCONN was just unreal making ridiculous contested shots. We just really stepped up our game and ran our offense. Our D over the last 5 minutes was absolutely suffocating. Unreal.
UCONN is a completely legit Final Four team.
We just finally played a game with minimal stupid TOs and running the offense to get good shots. That and some solid good old fashioned man to man defense showed we can compete with anyone.
If anything the last two games make me INFURIATED with the St. John's and Providence games.

IMO this was the Hoyas best game of the year as they really showed heart. They wanted this game badly and played like it through most of the game.
To me, Ray Reed was the most valuable player on the court for us, despite a few offensive mistakes. He was in-your-face on defense and gave it all he had.
Ashanti had a really good game and I think the shot he took at the end was a good one; it just didn't fall. It would have been nice to have had Owens or Green (or Ashanti) try a 3-pointer to win, rather than go for the tie, but that's Monday morning quarterbacking.
Green needs a lot of work on what to do when he gets the ball down low. Hope Patrick, Zo, or someone else will work with him on that. He could be a beast if he perfects that more.
Is it just me or does the backdoor seem to work much better when it's Crawford to Green to Crawford?
I'm one of those who has been really down on the team after the 5-game loss string but I found much to give me hope for the NCAA (still have hope), NIT, and next year.
Proud of the team!!!!!!

The Doom and Gloom guy is back in storage. I love this team and JTIII. Don't give up hope people...
Worst case scenario is we go to the NIT and we come back strong next year.
I can dream about the NCAAs. I can tell you one thing...NO ONE would want to see our name next to theirs in the dance.
I like Kool-Aid...especially the purple kind with vodka in it.

Thank you, Vagrant, for making me aware that I was not the only Hoya fan who wasn't devastated following the UNC loss. Amazingly, despite the fact that we came oh so close to a national title, I was all smiles following that game, because we had accomplished something that was far beyond my wildest dreams for Hoya basketball, and because I had great hope for the future. Everyone else I spoke with, on the other hand, made me feel as though I had lost my mind.

I don't know about you guys... but I am totally PSYCHED for the NIT this year... there will be a lot of talent playing in the lesser tourney this year... a team that beat Duke twice will be there... a BE team that we beat at home on a last second Hibbert dunk will be there, a team that beat a jetlagged Hoya squad in Hawaii will be there... Everyone listen up!!! Let's rally behind a team that exceeded all expectations all year long.... Let's rally behind our beloved Hoyas and give them the support they need and deserve.... Let's bring home a post season championship!!! LETS GO HOYAS!!!!! I couldn't possibly be less excited about something than about the prospect of an NIT bid. Considering we're only two seasons removed from a run to the NIT final, its very easy for me to remember how meaningless an NIT run is. Also, teams that play their way out of the NCAAs, as we did, rarely do well in the NIT. No matter who we're playing, its going to be very hard for me to care when the possibility of a first NCAA bid in a while was held tantalizingly out there for so long. And all because of a loss to Providence at home. Sick to my stomach.

And all because of a loss to Providence at home. Sick to my stomach. I think NIT runs can have meaning, but they don't always. Two years ago we went to the Finals. this did not portend anything for the next year because we lost three of five starters, including our All-BE should've been All-AA, our starting C, and our starting PG. It would've meant something if our lineup the next year had been: Townes Sweetney Bowman Riley Bethel Rutgers went to the NIT Finals as well last year and they sucked. But they got there because of a steady string of home games at the RAC and then graduated their entire front line. For this squad, I doubt an NIT run means all that much. We know we're a bubble team; we aren't a 16-14 CUSA club or anything. But it gives us a chance to watch, and for the players to develop more. Maybe it opens more PT for Tyler or allow Jeff to work on his post moves. Maybe we learn how to rebound . If nothing else, maybe it helps with the team's consistency.

An NIT run will give the players more development time. We're a young team. NIT runs with young teams are okay.

Sure there might be some value, but none of the "maybes" you've just mentioned provide anything like a compelling reason to care what happens. Since I came on board as a Hoyas follower, Hoyas basketball has meant "NIT" to me. Maybe it should feel different this time, but it really doesn't. There's still a disappointment component because of where we were a few weeks ago. I know in a month I'll look back and say we accomplished some things this year, but the NIT results will have zero bearing on that feeling.

I mostly agree Big Dog.
I think the only benefit of the NIT is cool match-ups we wouldn't otherwise get to play. In recent years we've played Tennessee, UNC, and UVA (in thriller!) to name a few.
If we get to play Maryland or GW or even a team like Indiana or New Mexico I think we'd find some value in the game.

If three of our guys played the Coral Gables Country Club in a rousing game of Shuffleboard, I'd at least be interested in the score. It's another televised game. Enjoy it.
