Rivals guru:
Near 7-footer Robert Upshaw appears to be done with his visits now after a weekend trip to Kansas State. The Fresno, Calif., product had been looking as if he might stretch his recruitment into the spring but now the plan is most likely to decide early. Louisville has been considered a behind-the-scenes favorite, but the Wildcats, Georgetown and Fresno State are still making big pushes.

Louisville is being reported alot with him, but he hasn't said anything. If he sticks to his formula then he'll be a hoya. If not, well.....

even though there know one really knows where is he leaning, i don't think kansas st. is gonna be in the mix. Fresno st isnt as big as us or louisville, but it is home for home, so they cant be counted out. But I think if we can beat louisville with this kid, he will be ours

Scout's Signing Day blog indicated Georgetown and Louisville are leaders for Upshaw. According to one of the coaches involved in his recruitment, Upshaw is not expected to sign today.

I know louisville is probably the slight favorite, but Ill be really disappointed if we don't land him. We never really expected TJ to sign with us, but we should be able to beat out Louisville. I guess well know soon enough.

I guess well know soon enough. Really? Pitino is one of the greatest recruiters in college hoops history, and Louisville appears to be positioned at least marginally better than we are to continue as a top tier program in the brave new superconference world. We have great things to offer to certain kids as well, but to suggest that losing a recruit to Louisville would be surprising seems inaccurate to me.

Louisville is strapped for scholarships(Remember they had to force a couple kids(I mean some kids volunteered) off scholarship for this year to accommodate everyone) and some of their fans think they're going to pass on upshaw. Not that fans tend to know what they're talking about, but I wouldn't mind if this were true.

While I'd like to beat Louisville out for major recruits, I think it's a stretch to say we "should" be able to beat them. They are the highest grossing basketball program in the country, they have a brand new arena, great facilities, a good coach and they have football and will likely stay a powerful program regardless of realignment.
I'm not touting Louisville at all, and I have no love for them at all, but I think we need to stay realistic and look at the way recruits view Georgetown versus other options. We certainly have other factors going in our favor (Big Man tradition, John Thompson III, etc.), but we need to be grounded. Sure, we love Georgetown, so it's easy to say we should beat Louisville, but that's not the way recruits will necessarily look at things.

O no I agree with you. I just think that we should be the leaders because historically our big men do great in the nba. But of course this is just from my viewpoint, I have no idea what upshaw thinks. I would love if he chooses hoyas, and if he doesn't ill be disappointed but would understand his choice.

I for one would be very disappointed to lose Upshaw. Losing an athletic wing to louisville is one thing, losing a big is quite another.
Let's analyze for a minute, shall we?
Georgetown bigs: Patrick Ewing Alonzo mourning Dikembe mutombo Othella Harrington Mike sweetney Roy hibbert Greg Monroe
Luoisville bigs: Pervis Ellison Samardo samuels
Am I missing anyone?
If pitino wins this one, just confirms how slick and smooth talkin he is.

Upshaw will make a decision on Monday according to Rivals. His mom says if he doesn't sign on monday it will be because they're seriously considering Fresno St and want to see how they do this season.

Dear mr. & mrs. Upshaw,
As loving and caring parents of your son Robert, do the right thing and send him to Georgetown. Its exactly what Rick Pitino did for his son.

could really, really use this kid.
Would just about send the young core group over the top. Not so much due to skill he currently possesses but being the fact he's a legit 7ft big man that also happens to be rapidly improving.
The thought of going Jabril- 6'5 (or 6'9 with Greg) at SG then Otto- 6'8, Mikael- 6'9, Upshaw-7ft makes me salivate.
COME ON DOWN!
