This was mentioned elsewhere, but our class is now ranked # 13 by ESPN. We were unranked until this afternoon when the news about Otto hit. For insiders: insider.espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/recruiting/classrankings?classyear=2011&classmonth=4&rank=13For non-insiders: "The Hoyas' class is highlighted by three ESPNU 100 prospects, SF Otto Porter (Sikeston, Mo./Scott County Central), PF Mikael Hopkins (Hyattsville, Md./DeMatha) and SG Jabril Trawick (Jenkintown, Pa./Abington Friends School). Porter has a deadly midrange game and can make teammates better with his passing and willingness to share the ball. Hopkins runs the floor extremely well, can finish above the rim with a clear path and is a terrific shot-blocker. He also posts up well and can hit open midrange jumpers with time and space. He is a tough, well-built shooting guard who consistently gets to the rim and shows the ability to shoot the ball from behind the 3-point arc. Tyler Adams (Brandon, Miss./Brandon) and PF Greg Whittington (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) round out the class."

I'm thinking we've begun to underestimate Hopkins after his senior season. He has some serious tools and athleticism. Who knows, maybe he comes in and really surprises next year. The potential of this class is just so exciting.

By the way, I think this "He is a tough, well-built shooting guard who consistently gets to the rim and shows the ability to shoot the ball from behind the 3-point arc." is referring to Jabril because Hopkins isnt a SG, but I can't be sure.

When did Tyler Adams drop so much? Hard to believe that he is now in the "rounding out the field" category

That makes sense since they discussed the other 2 ranked players, would seem they would discuss all 3 of them.

After he had a change of heart , dropped Duke and picked the Hoyas. I'm not concerned with Adams and his recruiting. He's a solid addition to our underrated 2011 class. Let's just hope JTIII can make this group gel and get us back to where we belong. ON TOP! .. baby steps indeed , but this roster has tons of potential.

Its tough to see Marshall Plumlee be a burger boy while Adams is not even near the espn top 100 anymore. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Tyler dominated Plumlee (or at least performed better than him) when they matched up this season.

we know Adams did produce this year, though. 17 and 11 plus 3 assists and 3 blocks a a game. (and he did dominate Plumlee in their matchup)

from Dave Telep's chat this afternoon...
Earl (Berkeley) Dave, can you talk about Georgetown’s other recruits beyond Otto and Greg? Do you see any of Tyler Adams, Mikael Hopkins or Jabril Trawick making an impact as a freshman?
Dave Telep (2:58 PM) Earl, I’m a HUGE Jabril Trawick fan. His toughness is how I like my wings wired up. The guy is pretty fearless. Adams will need time. Hopkins needs to gain his confidence back. Whittington could be a redshirt candidate and Porter, well, they’re going to want to play him.

Hey, oh! GW for redshirt? I take that to mean Telep hasn't seen him play much if at all. I'd be shocked if GW redshirts this year. I really think he's going to be a factor this year...

Telep's seen him play and ESPN's evaluation is fair.

Telep's seen him play and ESPN's evaluation is fair. All due respect Deacon but I'm not buying ESPN's evaluation on GW. They state that they only saw him once and the writer used the words "quick glance" to describe it. Not sure if Telep is the ESPN writer or not but I think they're off base with the assessment

I know Reggie Rankin saw Greg and really liked him. ESPN will probably increase their profile/ranking/assessment of Greg when the time comes.

Whittington will not redshirt- no way, unless there is something we do not know (he wants some time to bulk up or become get into the swing of things with school, etc.). The articles on him sound like (as with most recruits) he wants the chance to contribute right away.

We beat out Kansas for 2 kids, took Tyler away from Duke - gotta love what our staff is doing. Also, if we didn't redshirt Moses this past season, we won't be redshirting Greg W.

We needed size last year, we don't need wings this year. That's why he could redshirt.

There is a lot of time for any ideas of redshirting to take place. November is a long way off. First of all, there is going to be someone not on the roster that we are as of yet unaware. Secondly, until we see and hear about the effectiveness of some of the incoming freshmen and the potential improvement of returnees, speculation at this point is just that. My own personal "SWAG" is that Jabril is going to be a significant contributor and will ultimately garnish major minutes. Hopefully, at least 2 others will be major surprises. If one cannot be perhaps foolishly optimistic in April after a major recruiting victory, then when can one?
