Just focus on VCU or USC--and USC is a nasty matchup--they play defense, they play tough halfcourt offense--are a good rebounding team, and have a great big kid in the Euro--along with some quickness. They've beaten Texas, Arizona at home--Washington, Tennessee on the road and play in spurts.
VCU---athletic, fast paced/press, and shoot a lot of 3's. Know they got ragged on a lot by media for getting in--but I think they are a worthy team--they play a fun style to watch and were in a great mid major league--just that it wasn't their "pet" Missouri Valley this year-it was Colonial. ODU as we know is a legit team, Mason as we know is a legit team, so VCU isn't some punk team.
I'm not even going to mention any round past the potential 1st round-because that is what dooms this group. Losing focus. They are getting ragged on and nobody thinks they'll do squat. Time to rally together and get something positive going into Friday!!

USC is actually a worse offensive rebounding team than us, and considering its opposing teams offensive rebounds that kill us, their rebounding abilities shouldn't be cause for concern as much our attention to rebounds(as is always the case). If we lost to USC they would be the worst offensive rebounding team we've lost to all year. In addition to that, they have two players over 6'6 so it doesn't look like we are going to be facing the length that teams like Syracuse, Uconn and Cincy frustrated us with. Yes they have one really good big guy that will give us problems, but not a whole host of size they can throw at us to bother our shooters and guards like other teams were able to do. On paper, USC doesn't really seem like a bad match-up for us when you look at the teams and players that bothered us all year long. They are also a brand name team from a power six conference, (aka not an Ohio or a Davidson) so the chances of us pulling an Ohio are reduced. Not that I think that will happen anyway with our recent performance plus the addition of Chris plus having gone through it last year, but as a fan ya never know.
That being said I think VCU might be the tougher matchup. A bit longer at the guard and wing positions, deeper, force more turnovers, better shooting which is always dangerous in the tournament and against our perimeter defense. Also the mid-major which shouldn't matter but ya never know with this team. So we'll see. I think having to focus on two teams instead of one might actually be more benefitial to this teams focus for some reason. The greater the challenge seems, the more seriously they seem to take it. We will see though. Haven't won an NCAA game since 2008. And it'd be nice to not end the season on a 4 game losing streak.

Editeded? I don't know about that.
They just looked like all business to me.
But hopefully they'll have some fun too.

Courtesy of Casual... washingtonexaminer.com/sports/college/2011/03/hoyas-facing-p-lay-team#"Moments after the NCAA tournament selection show began Sunday evening in front of large crowd at Leo O'Donovan Hall, Wright said he was "sweating bullets," so he texted Hoyas coach John Thompson III. "We was too anxious," Freeman said. "We couldn't take it anymore, so we just had to find out, and we asked coach.""

The committee lets the coaches know in advance?
Huh. I never knew that.

Question about all the new play-in games. I saw somewhere that they are all being held in Dayton? So these games are Tuesday night then the winners need to travel to their first location for Thursday/Friday?

Wow, that was a great article. I 100% agree with this point, and think it isnt made enough:
Florida State, Georgia, Penn State and Illinois are in the tournament because they got to play home games against highly-rated teams. I submit that without that opportunity -- the league forcing good teams to play at their place -- none would be in the tournament. All their cases rested on one big win at home in conference. Alabama, Virginia Tech and Colorado were similarly situated, with a single home conference win buoying the entire profile. You think UAB or Harvard or Missouri State wouldn't like to be able to play home games against Duke and Kentucky? You think they have scheduling advantages relative to the teams that choose to play a lot of bad games and never go on the road against the #7 to #16 conferences in the country? The entire ACC played six road games against mid-majors!

Winners of Tuesday games play on Thursday, Wednesday games on Friday. USC-VCU will be played on Wednesday night.
