I'm not sure I like only getting two days (perhaps less if we play early on Friday) to prep. However, I think the opponent will have it worse. Imagine having to prep for our offense in, essentially, one day. We can scout both VCU and USC. Neither one of those teams can look ahead to us.
Very happy about this draw.

If we prevail in the first game, who on this roster guards Johnson from PU?

Plus Purdue is very familiar with our offense since they face Northwestern all the time.

If we prevail in the first game, who on this roster guards Johnson from PU? You can say that about any #3 seed. Who guards Jimmer? Kemba? On the 'Cuse, well...

Sure, Purdue would be very rough. But let's just win one of these games first. It's been quite a while for that.

BYU has no size. They aren't the same team that beat San Diego State twice. They got smoked by both San Diego State and New Mexico. Jajuan Johnson is Big Ten player of the Year. But first things first because USC is capable.

Clearly the committee does not believe chris will be back at full strength. That's the only reason to have us at a 6 seed. I think it could end up being a fine draw for us we'll see. I like coming from the other side from the #1 seed.

yes, when we've lost in the tourney it's been to quick penetrating guards with quality inside.

Hey Purdue got walloped by Michigan State in their conference tourney. Anything can happen. You have to play and win to move on regardless of who. Let's win one but I like our chances against Purdue should be no different than Michigan State.

Purdue ..... Feels like an OSU 2nd round game back in 2006. I would be tickled to death to get that opportunity. If Mich State blows you out, you have some issues.

Is Moore really "lightning quick?" He's a very good guard, but he strikes me more like an Ashton Gibbs type, and not a guy who is going to break our guys down off the dribble and get into the paint at will. Certainly would have our hands full with him if we got that far.

Also, can ESPN just run Edited Vitale's selection show soliloquy on a loop each year? All you'd need to do is just dub over which ACC team he feels "heartbroken" for. Which this year would be Virginia Tech, unless I misread the bracket (all those anagrams . . .). Florida is a 2 seed? Illinois and Georgia seeded higher than Marquette? Another soft road for Duke? Connecticut and Cincinnati playing in the second round? There are a few howlers in there that Lunardi and the boys will have some fun with.

Marquette was lucky to get in. Last week it didn't look like 11 Big East teams would make it. Gtown did not deserve anything higher than a 6 seed. We could not beat ND or Pitt. We got wiped twice by Cincinnati and Uconn. Sure, we had one injured player. Lots of teams like Louisville had more. Duke did reasonably well (sic) without their premier point guard. Let's have some reality checks here. A six seed is very reasonable. We had 2 bad stretches this season. We recovered from the first one. Now is the time to recover from the second one.

I don't think Duke got that much of a soft road.
To me, Pitt has the easiest path by far.

I agree that Pitt seems to have the easiest draw. Duke has a potentially tough second game with Tennessee and Texas is no picnic as a 4 seed. Pitt cannot be disappointed at all with their path. Likewise, I think that ND has to be pleased with their situation.

I think we've got just about the ideal first round situation. USC is probably favored and has a good big who could give us problems, but judging from his highlights and 3pt shooting, he's really more of a finesse player than a bruiser (although he does draw some fouls). They also don't defend the 3 that well. VCU could give us problems if Chris isn't at full strength because they get a lot of steals and do defend the 3 pretty well. But in both cases, they are weaker teams than the other 11 seed options. Not that Pomeroy is perfect, but the other 11 seeds are ranked 27, 33, and 34 versus USC 45 and VCU 84.
On the other hand, Purdue is just about the toughest 3 seed we could get. They are about the best 2-player team in recent memory, and despite the fact that everyone knows who is going to take Purdue's shots, those 2 still get theirs every night against B10 competition that have seen their games for years. We'd need to shoot great from 3 and hold one of their two stars to a sub-par game to have a good shot.
But I'd be happy if we win the first game. If we do that, we've always got a puncher's chance at the second.

Not that I'm complaining but I'm confused as to why us (6th seed) gets a play in game. Shouldn't it be the top 4 (#1 seeds) getting the play in games? No. There are four first round games. Two games are your "traditional" "play-in" games involving the bottom teams that will be fed to the #1 seeds. The other two games involve something I've wanted to happen for a long time -- making the last four teams in the field play each other to get in to the top 64. The last several at-large teams are always going to be on the 11 or 12 line, meaning they matchup with a five or six seed. KC any insight into why we get the play teams out of everyone?

More incentive -- Gottlieb just picked USC over GU.
