I am slightly concerned that he committed to us on his first visit with out talking it over with his coach. Hopefully he talked it over with his parents. On the one hand it could be a good thing. He really wants to be here and fell in love kind of like how greg committed to us on his second visit with out visiting the other 3 schools he planned to visit. But it could also mean he made a rash decision and that a school could get in his ear and be like "come on, at least come visit us you've only seen one school let us show you what we have to offer." I'm hoping it's the former, but we've been burned by recruits before. I'm glad he's a hoya and I hope he stays that way. GW has been talking with his parents and coach all along. Coach was quoted as saying he is really happy for GW to be at GU. Both JT's have been to multiple GW games. This was not a surprise from nowhere. Sorry forgot that the article i was referring to was not posted here yet. I was referring to this article in the Baltimore Sun: weblogs.baltimoresun.com/sports/college/recruiting/2011/03/greg_whittington_talks_georgetown_commitment.htmlThis quote from his coach indicates it was a surprise to him that he committed: "Said Browne: “I never thought in a million years he would commit on the visit without having gone anywhere and without sitting and weighing his options. Not in a million years would that happen. I was just as surprised as anyone. But at the end, I’m very, very happy for Greg and his family.”"

I don't think Oakland Mills produces a lot of high major prospects, so this may have been his first rodeo.

Welcome to the Hoyas Greg! Will he be playing behind Bolden? Greg would have a full year of experience over Bolden, and they likely would not even play the same position, assuming Greg is a 3 and Bolden is more of a face the basket 4. So, no.

I think GW's verbal is exclusive of any other commitments the Hoyas may get.

Durant is the only "shooter" of the three you mentioned.
I think MD's coach not coming to see GW until late really made an impact on him. I still don't understand how MD gets anybody with the way the head coach recruits. Fortunately, he has Bino on his staff or they'd be mid-major.

Have you seen Austin Daye play? He is making 42.3% from three (60 for 142) this season. Durant is 36% from three. Prince is 38%.
Daye is more of a catch and shooter than either of the other two. Durant and Prince get more isolation plays. None of the three does any dirty work in the paint, although Durant is great at drawing fouls.

1. He's not a PF--so those talking like that strictly are referring to where he played in HS to help his team--he was tallest guy on his team--but allowed to play facing up and posting in HS--coach did a good job. 2. He played 1 major AAU event last Summer---he's new to organized basketball-- and led a group of guys who might not even play D1 basketball to 3rd place at AAU Nationals in Orlando-which featured Hoya targets/big time recruits--Tyler Adams, Johnny O'Bryant, Ky Madden, BJ Young, Nerlens Noel, Andre Drummond, Omar Calhoun, and numerous other highly thought of players. Whittington made All tournament and a name for himself. 3. Attitude has been brought up as a negative-he pouts a bit, gets a little riled up by bad calls, etc...but he's also come back in those game and put up numbers. Several coaches who have watched him have told people he's an NBA potential player if he keeps his head on straight. 4. His skill set is superior now to any SF on this team. He's already 6'9--he's got high basketball IQ--very good passer and great jumpshot. Watch his handle--it's better then most guys on this team now too--so his "weakness" is that he's got to work on his offhand-something several guys on this current team still don't do well enough. Needs to get stronger, etc....sure--as do most kids. 5. This is type of guy you take a flyer on--he's someone who could be an elite player in 2-3 years--and he FITS what the program prefers/has flourished with. 4 signees so far--6'9, 6'9, 6'9, and 6'5 (BTW Trawick's mentioned he's been told by doctors that he could grow 1/2 more inches as well). This group is FAR more athletic and versatile and better fit. Now--the focus is on Daniel Ochefu--another big--measured at Nike Camp as a legit 6'11 prospect without shoes on, Kyle Anderson, and if there is any roster movement this offseason, I'm assuming that a PG will be pursued. how would you compare this kid to jeff and dajuan at high school level and his potential in college? just curious

Summers played C on his HS team--and had to learn the outside game--one of reasons he chose Georgetown to develop and be a SF--which worked greatly his FR season--and for his skill set. Jeff was a different player completely--more of a natural PF--but Whittington shares strength of high basketball IQ like Green had--although he enters Georgetown a much better perimeter player and not the low block player Jeff was.

If this kid can provide passing skills, a perimeter game and substantial length it will be a perfect fit for this team. Will he fulfill the promise? No one can tell at this time, but I wholeheartedly endorse the bird in hand approach to recruiting. We have all held our breath for too many years in hopes of the certain 5 star recruit the following year. Too often we have watched as a R. Christmas or R. Smith go from a "certain" recruit to a signing for another team.

Just so I don't have to worry about this commitment any more, how is he different than Jerrelle? Combo forward who put up big numbers in a bad division. I just want to make sure this kid can actually contribute to this team down the road; We can't waste another scholarship on Jerrelle 2.0.

I don't know how you can watch that youtube reel and think Jerelle. If there's a downside, it's a passing Trez Kilpatrick.

I've never seen him play, but people's whose opinions I trust say he could be a star in college and has legit pro potential. All the tools are there, it's just a matter of developing them.

I have seen him play and he has a huge upside; but just like I tell my kids it depends on how hard he works. 6'9" and can handle like that is worth the risk. I see him as a 3. I think he is a more skilled version of Dejuan Summers.

Did you watch him as a Gtown fan or just as a fan of bball? Is he going to be a catch and shoot or can he get to the cup off the bounce? Can he score with his back to the basket? Is he willing to mix it up a little? I have seen him play and he has a huge upside; but just like I tell my kids it depends on how hard he works. 6'9" and can handle like that is worth the risk.
