I just looked at Greg's highlights versus Douglass. Seems like he's already more offensively polished than many of our bigger players, with the exception of Hollis. He has a great looking shot and shows an ability to create offensively. They thing I didn't see is tenacity on the glass. When a shot goes up, he turns to the rim, but is not boxing out or tracking the ball intently. I hope he can develop that and he can be very special.

he does that sometimes. look at a couple other of his videos. now whether he will do it consistently is another story. but he's a 3.

I've heard a feast or famine type kid. Depends on what the kid puts into it. We know he'll get coached up.

Sometimes it is easy for a tall kid to get by in high school without having to play to his size. That will change next year when this team gets to practice. With Henry, Nate, Moses, Jerelle, Hopkins and Adams, there will be plenty of tall kids to challenge him and make him better. I am thinking that overall next year's team may have more height than any Hoya team I can remember.

The DaJuan comparisons concern me. Are we still recruiting players who turn it off and on (Hopkins allegedly) and who are allergic to mixing it up/doing the dirty work (GW allegedly)? Only time will tell with these two.

Only time will tell with these two. I always thought DaJuan played hard, he just could not adjust to playing the 4 spot. This won't be an issue for GW since he's a 3 all the way.. I think the kid will be fine. I like the fact that he stepped up in that AAU tourney going against top competition. Isn't he playing in the Cap Classic also? I know it's run & gun but it may be a decent glimpse

Did you watch him as a Gtown fan or just as a fan of bball? Is he going to be a catch and shoot or can he get to the cup off the bounce? Can he score with his back to the basket? Is he willing to mix it up a little? I have seen him play and he has a huge upside; but just like I tell my kids it depends on how hard he works. 6'9" and can handle like that is worth the risk. I see him as a 3. I think he is a more skilled version of Dejuan Summers. Neither as a coach. I was scouting their team.

He is more or a catch and shoot and get to the cup. If wr try to turn him into a 4 we aren't using his skills the right way.

If he willingly puts the ball on the floor and can get to the basket then we have a steal. I must say I was not overly impressed with his video. I saw a skill set but I did not think his game speed was major D1 level. Hopefully I am wrong. He is more or a catch and shoot and get to the cup. If wr try to turn him into a 4 we aren't using his skills the right way.

How a thread about an incoming recruit can become a debate over a Hoya who has been gone for 2 years is beyond me! Gonna be a long, loooong time to next season.

MOD NOTE: If posters would like to have a discussion about DaJuan Summers' record as a Hoya, please take it to the main Hoyatalk board. Keep posts here on the subject of incoming recruit Greg Whittington.

I hope this Greg vs DaJuan talk temper's all of our expectations greatly. As a board we are awful at talking up incoming recruits, since they do look like decent players in spurts. Now what matters is when they come to the big time. Yes Greg has played AAU and carried his team, in how many tournaments? He's the biggest player on his HS team and I wouldn't be surprised if he was in the top 10 tallest players in his league. Its one thing going against people smaller then you, another going against guys the same size guarding you, and a whole entire nother finishing at the hoop against some of the big men out there. If Greg's game is slashing he is going to need to put on some weight and get used to finishing against bigger players.
He has potential and I am excited about that but he does need to put on probably 25 lbs (not the 50 to get to DaJuan size) and needs practice against larger players. I hope he does get minutes in OOC to get use to games as well as going against different larger players, but I doubt he will get major minutes.

he needs competition against players his size and length everyday in practice to get better. Someone to push him constantly. See what he's made of.

I thought it was a two-man race between Ty Johnson and Marcus Thornton, so consider me stunned.
I really need to see this dude play.
