Mods - before you delete this, it has received at least some media coverage. May not be best to pretend it's not happening.
There has been discussion of this over at other Hoya fan sites which shall not be named, and the consensus there seems to be what I agree with - this is awful for the Big East and Georgetown, whether or not it's true. It's never a good thing when a conference member is accused of this. Syracuse is bad and evil enough that they shouldn't need to try to lose games.

hoyatalk2.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=23554&page=3HoyaTalk'ers have been discussing this in the games of interest thread. When I read it last night, I googled "Syracuse point shaving" and saw a Twitter and Facebook post from a sportscaster from Upstate NY as well as a post from ESPN college basketball's twitter account regarding the rumor and I thought "dear goodness this is real." Now that everything from a legit source has been redacted, I'm not so sure. For the good of basketball, I really really hope its not true.

Much as I despise Syracuse basketball, I don't want to see them -- or any BE program -- fall victim to this kind of thing. Benedict Arnold college was enough.
Actually, don't want to see any other hoops program involved in this either... well, maybe with the exception of UK! ;D

Doesn't Vegas usually find these based on unusual betting/series of unlikely results.

Doesn't Vegas usually find these based on unusual betting/series of unlikely results. The UK's betting agencies notify the government/Interpol when strange things crop up. Possibly an argument for legalization of gambling, since it's out in the open.

It's not "internet journalism" - it's bad journalism. Before the internet was a glimmer in Al Gore's eye, we had Janet Cooke, who actually got the DC police tasked to find a heroin-addicted kid who never existed. Mitch Albom wrote an opener a few years ago for a Final Four story saying that he was sitting with two MSU players - only problem was, they never did it (and the internet called him out on it). A culture of closeness to players may have led to the Brett Favre story getting buried in a non-internet age. Journalists have a nasty tendency to blame the internet for a credibility problem that has existed long before the internet existed. The internet has changed many fields along with journalism, and yet only journalism is whining that it's making their field worse. EDIT - fixed "crack" to heroin. And if you've never read "Jimmy's World", this is a great read. academics.smcvt.edu/dmindich/Jimmy%27s%20World.htm

Semantics aside, the internet has made bad journalism far more prevalent and immediate.

Rumors are that this isn't quite dead yet. That it's gotten high profile enough now that NCAA may actually be looking in to it. Which frankly at this point they should. Sure I doubt it's true, but it's caused a big enough stink it'd be negligent not to at least poke around a little.

Scoop Jardine should jsut go ahead and confirm this, true or not.
God knows, Syracuse fans can't hate him anymore than they already do.
Hell, they might even cut him some slack....if it's for point shaving, it provides a ready excuse as to why he's been sucking so much.

It really isn't point shaving when you just blow.
