I'm not saying he's Jeff Green or could become Jeff Green -- I mean to say he's got Jeff Green type ability. He's very athletic (more athletic than Jeff) and fairly skilled (i.e., not a Macklin/Benimon type). The kid is not a chump, he was a McDonald's All American and a deserving one, and would be the most talented big on our roster next year.
I don't think he's gotten a fair shake at KSU -- it never seemed like a good fit with Frank Martin always preferring Jamar Samuels and Curtis Kelly at the 4 -- and generally just being an angry old man. I think JTIII could really help him, and build back the kid's confidence, that is all I am trying to say.
And let's not blame the kid for taking the advice of DC Assault leadership -- if you have any idea how AAU basketball works in this area you know that these kids are often pawns who have very little control over some of the major decisions that get made in their lives. It's a bit heartless to throw the kid under the bus for ending up at KSU, and I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up at Rutgers without much say about where he really wants to be. This says a lot more about the adults involved in youth hoops in this area than the kids.
That's fair. But the problem with him now is that he's wasted 2 years of his development at KSU. I feel like player "development" at KSU is not really helpful in terms of the skills he would need to be effective in our offense.
