i wouldn't say it's worthless. having Georgetown's name consistently in top flight kids' list of schools keeps our name out there. plus we are building relationships with some of these AAU, high school, and summer programs. in the end i think it is good for us regardless of whether they come or not (obviously i would prefer that they all come)

"nice to chase these top flight kids but you must land some or it is all worthless."
Brilliant insight. Amazing you haven't been hired by the staff as a consultant yet.

nice to chase these top flight kids but you must land some or it is all worthless If you know your history--pay attention to how similar the recruiting has gone this year as when III took over. What is similar? Notice a trend? Big time players are listing Georgetown again--and all over the country. You've got to cast a wide net. No offense the past kids who have left--but you can't be taking Nikita, Omar, Jerrelle, when you miss on top priorities. Recruiting is like a game--you have to put together a gameplan and execute. With Kirby in fold--it's even stronger then when III took over but Broadus hands are all over the strategy Georgetown is using. Next step is closing/landing guys-but the program is moving in direction it had gone away from.

With Kirby in fold--it's even stronger then when III took over but Broadus hands are all over the strategy Georgetown is using. Next step is closing/landing guys-but the program is moving in direction it had gone away from. That is exactly right RDF. We should add it is a year-round, priority activity for the staff and it requires constant strategizing, planning, executing, re-evaluting, adjusting, re-engaging, contingency plans for contingency plans, and unending, 4-year rolling time frames. Add to that, one never knows how kids will pan out at the D1 level, who will get injured, who might leave early for the NBA (or French Foreign Legion ), who will get frustrated and transfer, and who might not be able to cut it academically. Which kids are open to making a move to the East Coast? Which ones have the best chance to succeed in the classroom? Which ones are most likely to stay out of trouble off the court? Which ones have the smarts, savvy, and team-first attitude to thrive in JT3's system? And... it seems like in the last year or two, there's been a renewed emphasis on kids who like to play D and who like to bang underneath and rebound. and so forth I would imagine one asst. coach is the point man for keeping track of all this data and all these action plans and responsibilities, but the entire staff has input. Then you need guys who just have an innate ability to relate to kids, to befriend them, to gain their confidence and to sell GU. JT3 has a great track record... ok, a little less shiny the last couple years. But his 7 years at GU, in the nation's toughest basketball conference, include a 69% winning percentage, 5 NCAA tourneys and 2 NITs, a sweet sixteen and a Final Four, 2 BE Conf. Championships and 1 BET title, and GU has become a fixture as a Top 25 program -- at least. Plus, GU is on TV a lot and has the president attending games. And we've put numerous kids in the NBA. Lastly, for many kids -- and even more parents -- we have Pops. The visibility he gained during his 3 decades building and running GU is still a very big selling point. Even recent kids like Troy Williams and Kyle Anderson have talked about what it meant to meet JT. There's lots to sell. Maybe not as much as some, though far more than most. But it doesn't just happen. It takes research, perseverance, contact, traveling, determination AND sensitivity -- to know when to push a kid hard, and when to hold back. Oh, and then you are competing against guys who don't follow the rules. It's a really really tough assignment and most kids you pursue will end up someplace else. But if we were to rate the current staff at this point in time, they'd deserve top grades. I agree with you RDF, the current staff is doing a far better job than had been done recently. Man, I sure hope they get rewarded and are able to pull in some top kids for 2012 and really get this program back to the top!

T.J. Warren only wants to play the 3. Is being adamant that schools recruiting him only play him at the 3. Wouldn't mind a future 1/2/3/4 of Kyle Anderson, Danuel House, TJ Warren, Devonta Pollard. Ain't over til it's over. This seems a bit unlikely, and would also require some serious scholarship juggling. And excellent post, SirSaxa.

Genius let Bronxie explain something things to you little fella. Recruiting becomes a lot easier when you win big. We are a few years removed from having been very good. Next year depending who you ask might be worse. Now if we do not land studs this year and have a flop upcoming season it becomes increasingly more difficult to land studs the next year. WASH RINSE AND REPEAT.....we have to start getting it done on the trail now especially since we salvaged last year's class with some nice looking late bloomers. "nice to chase these top flight kids but you must land some or it is all worthless." Brilliant insight. Amazing you haven't been hired by the staff as a consultant yet.

People can say whatever they like but just tell me when Bronxie was wrong. Took JT3 long enough but he is finally listening to me. He is recruiting the kind of kids Bronxitos demanded 3-4 years ago.

Bronxie is committed to Gtown bball and winning. Therefore I will keep posting my thoughts in this public forum for all to read. I know how to win and I know how to lose. Being non athletic at the 1-2-3...undersized and soft is a recipe for disaster. That must never happen again. yes, bronxie, he's listening to you. so stop broadcasting your views publicly. keep them between you and jt3 so other schools can't steal them!

If you land both Kyle and Tony, do you try to round out the class with a TJ or Pollard?
I say yes. Bird in the hand. When you can land a class that good, prospects in 2013 should not get priority. I do believe we'd have one scholarship in that class though, with which we could try to catch the big fish (Noel or Williams).
