Here is your response from the school superintendent: www.kcra.com/r/25754519/detail.htmlBased on that, I think I am going to go a head and file this one under "horribly stupid decision." Listening to what he has to say, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of context that would explain it in any other way. Displaying the flag is not following the first amendment responsibly? Really? You're going to stick with that? I'm sorry, but if students at a public school in the United States of America are getting offended because someone is displaying the American flag, those students are the ones who have a problem that needs correcting, not the student who is displaying the flag. You can complain all you want about how this is not the most important news story going on. Fine. I won't disagree with that. But that doesn't mean I can't find it appalling. Because it is that too. is racial tension the right term? Americans vs. Mexicans?

Boz - The folks complaining here are the student and his family (and the people who agree with them). You may agree with them and that's fine, but this is not an issue of any media attention unless they brought it to the news outlets.

Seems to me a student being denied his first amendment rights warrants a modicum of media attention.
Should this be the lead in every newspaper and newscast? No.
But some attention? No, I have no problem with Fox, Drudge and any other media outlets giving it some play, if for no other reason than to make sure everyone knows what an idiot this superintendent is.

Maybe he should bring a gun to school next and whine about the 2nd Amendment.

No. Didn't we just go through this with that nut in FL who wanted to burn the Koran? The media went way overboard on a non-story... at least, a story not worthy of the level of media attention it received. By the way, did Fox "News" leave this part out of their coverage: Outside of the school, a large U.S. flag flies from atop a flagpole.I agree prohibiting the kid from flying his American Flag is a poor solution to whatever problem the school was attempting to address. But no, I don't think it merits front page coverage in national newspapers -- unless, of course, you think it should be blamed on the Governor of California.

It's not getting (and, as has been pointed out, probably won't get) front page coverage in national newspapers.
It is getting coverage on the Internet. And by the local television station.
I'd call that appropriate.
I'm sure Hannity and maybe a couple others on Fox will mention it, but that's probably all the "national" play it will receive.

Awesome: www.kcra.com/news/25795718/detail.htmlAnd kudos to the school for changing their mind on what was a remarkably stupid decision to begin with. I will now stop posting on this topic, because of course, it is just a local story and shouldn't get any attention from anyone, anywhere.
