Great updates everyone!!
I never considered the possibility of Jerelle starting for this team, but the more I think of it, the more I see it as a real possibility. Outside of Lubick, who most likely has to learn the system before he starts consistently contributing, Jerelle is the guy who most naturally fills the 4 spot. He was ahead of Henry in the depth chart last year, and is a better option than playing Hollis out of position. If it is true that Jerrelle is looking like a mini-vaughn out on the court....and if he can elimiate his John Jacques-like tendancy to alligator arm his layups and back rim dunks (which i think he mostly did because of nerves), I see him as a starting 4 and being quite reliable in that role.

Realize it's one practice--but how damn long is it going to take Wright to figure out how to friggin play the position? That is not only troubling to read--but frustrating and honestly---get it together or sit and watch--because it's time to tighten things up and when one of the Captains you are counting on--can't be counted on to make good decisions as a SR--he can't be trusted running the team-especially one that isn't going to have a halfcourt presence to hide poor decision making like they had with Monroe last 2 years.
Rather hear Starks making those mistakes--and Wright helping him--and instead to read Wright is playing loose with ball and making stupid decisions--just not a good start or what I was hoping to read.
Benimon is a guy who will give you same production in short spurts that you'll get in extended time. I'll believe the vast improvement to the point he can consistently contribute when I see it--too many shaky memories from seeing him play more then 3-4 minutes to believe he's a guy who should/might be starting this year.
Not inspired by the 3 guard lineup talk either--then again the minute several people reported the same thing about Wright--it ruined any positive thoughts.

Trying to stay optimistic, I'd rather put more stock into Chris' late season performances last year than an open practice.

Unfortunately--his late season performances were exception to how he's been--he's got to be far more consistent and under control--or he's going to have to see minutes cut and give ball up--because you can't have this crap coming from him this year-or any of the other "leaders" either.

Could not agree more on Benimon RDF. Great way to characteerize his play too. Kid worked hard and was the best option available, but if he is not dramatically improved and he is playing alot, then we are in trouble.

I remember how surprised I was last year when Benimon was the first off the bench in the first game. Might be surprised to see him start first game this year.

3 guard line-up concers me to. Not really surprised though, we seem to be valuing offense over defense which in my opinion has results in our inconsistent results.

sooo, let me understand this. Over the last year, Chris improved his decision making when going to the hole (everyone seems to agree on that).
In an early open practice with a scrimmage in which Chris' lineup was...? he was doing something that hoyatalk has been extremely negative about that could very well be due to spacing on the floor and people not being where they need to be.
Imagine, for instance, that when Chris drives, the post player is supposed to go to the high post and prepare for a dump off or rebound chance. Imagine that said post player is currently a freshman who is one week into practice. Imagine, then, that when he does not move out of the way, Chris is stuck under the basket with a post defender in position and his expected outlet too close to be an outlet.
Now, Chris probably should have identified that problem earlier, sure. But the main cause is not bad decision making by Chris (I see an opening, I take it) but rather the mistake by the post player who needed to clear out.
I don't know if that's what happened as I wasn't there, but considering Chris showed a positive trajectory in terms of his decision making + this was an early practice, the pessimism seems a bit extreme.
Hoyatalk is of two minds: run more! More penetration! But at the same time: no turnovers! Stop getting stuck under the basket! Well, guess what happens when you run and penetrate? I'm not saying Chris is great at it (he did turn it over too often on penetrations), but geez, we're a bit harsh, no?
Just wanted to provide the other side. For all I know, I'm 100% off-base.

I think it's being blown out of proportion. I only remember 2 times during the pseudo scrimmage where chris was on the fast break. He finished the first one and turned it over the second time. That's all I remember happening. I don't think it was a glaring problem during the practice. I think some people are just seeing what they want to see.

1 turnover plus 1 broken play = board implosion

1 turnover plus 1 broken play = board implosion In an open practice scrimmage. Are you people for real? We are seriously talking about benching Chris for something the majority of us didn't even see happen at a practice the first week in? This is the definition of an overreaction.

The question I have with Wright is - when do the excuses end? I enjoy watching him play and think he brought tremendous effort during the BET run last season.
That being said, it seems like he has been somewhere around the center of every "chemistry" issue we've heard about since he has been here. He has been protected to a large degree, and that even meant cutting Sapp's role a few years ago.
Since Wright has been here, the team has won 1 NCAA tournament game - with Wright getting 16 minutes of play. The ball is in his court.

As I said,
You guys are nuts....looney tunes....we almost won the BE tournament last year BECAUSE of Wright, and the ball is in his court? Dude makes more plays with the game on the line than anyone on our team.......
You guys need to get a grip...for real

Oh, and Ambassador,
Since we're calling out stats and Chris' 16 min of play in the one win since he's been here, like any of the losses were his fault, who hit the buzzer beating three before the half in that win?
Chris.
Who was the best player for us against Ohio?
Chris
Who was by far the best player for us in the BE tourney last year?
Chris
And he's drawing criticism because of a PRACTICE?
Get a grip

Daytona - I can't speak for others, but I am not basing my opinion on the practice. These issues have come up in his play on the court. If you are going to consider the BET a check in his favor (and that makes sense), you also have to recognize that he made a terrible decision at the end of the WVU game. That kind of thing can't happen this season.
