Remember, without chemicals, life itself would be impossible.

"DC Police say they have blocked off several streets surrounding the campus due to the volatility of the chemicals. Drivers are advised to avoid that area." What streets were they blocking off? The closest public street would be 37th. They just blocked off all the the streets on campus...nothing off campus was blocked. Is it bad that I was relieved that it was DMT and not meth? Still no good but meth is awful.

Nothing off campus was blocked because of the incident. All the off campus traffic was due to the bike race and construction on Canal. It was just spots on campus.
They're blocking off the DPS office right now because the suspects are about to be taken out.

As a chemistry major at Georgetown, I find this very disturbing. We had our chemistry pranks (ammonium iodide on the thresholds of dorm room, sodium on the snowy roof, and sugar and sulfuric acid (last two by my roommate), but nothing involving illegal drugs AND big time contamination.

The wikipedia page for DMT has already been updated with this story in the "in the news" section. Wonder if the culprits are legacy students, or students who "really deserved" to be admitted.

Eh, if they were making it to sell, then throw the book at them. If they were just making it for personal consumption, then I'd be fine with probation. They should be expelled regardless though... Meth is a truly evil substance, and would have been a danger to the entire building. DMT is only worse in the minds of the DEA, since it's classified as Schedule I (Meth is only Schedule II).

Who says Georgetown isn't a science school? I think our Jack let these kids in. I disavow any knowledge of this. Apparently the admissions situation has gone to God knows where over the past 4 years since I left. Seriously, how does this happen in October of your Freshman year?

I wonder if these guys brought a resume to their interview.

Now that we know it was DMT and not meth, it's a bit less clear what the "cooking" process was. Could their chemicals have exploded or poisoned Harbin residents? If so, I'd still go at them pretty hard just for the endangerment aspect of the whole thing.

If the process involved extraction through use of solvents, it could be a fire hazard depending upon the volatility of the solvents? Maybe Nevada Hoya may can enlighten us?

From what I've seen in terms of typical extracting ingredients, the press release from the school last night was pretty accurate, in that it was never a danger to anybody else on the floor, only the people in the room.

"Some students at Georgetown University are trying to understand how someone could have operated a drug lab in a dorm room at the Ivy League school." By the comments, readers seem more perturbed that the author doesn't know who is in the Ivy League. news.blogs.cnn.com/2010/10/24/georgetown-drug-lab-busted/

Haha oops CNN accidentally leaked Georgetown's move to the ivy league lol
meh it's an easy mistake since Georgetown is an ivy equivalent. Not officially an ivy league school, but just as good.

I am disgusted that any Hoyas could make a joke out of this incident.
