after last year the way we lost in the ncaas,i am not getting my hopes up this year.i thought that last years team did not play hard enough in some games.i think they need to play with more fire and a sence of urgency.i think greg was good, but to passive and should have been more of a take over guy.that game vs old dominion and rutgers was awful.the team did not show up ready to play, also in the ncaas.i think we will be pretty good but not great by any means.i would say 19-10 to 18-11 and hope 11-7 in big east.remember last year we just went 10-8 in be. i think we will win if the team plays harder than last year.i believe the hoyas takes on the never worry laid back approach of jt3. if we get down 6-8pts we just seem to still run the offence,no urgency at all.then we end up loosing, because we are to much a system team. come out if you get down by 4-5 call a to and start getting on there a## that is all i want to see. old dominion will be ready so,we better start off a lot better this year from the first game or it will be a loss. it is time to get firud up fo once.
go hoyas prove me wrong!!!!

Living life without getting your hopes up sucks. Trust me, I know whereof I speak.

C'mon, 4ever - hope springs eternal, my friend. We have strong veteran leadership, two preseason all-Big East players in the backcourt, some promising newcomers - gotta let that love germinate in your heart and in your soul! Now I'm not booking a trip to the Final Four, we have a long, long way to go after the last couple of seasons, but - give Hope a chance!

There are 3 seasons: (1) out of conference; (2) Big East, including BE tourney; and (3) NCAAs. I'd be happy if we excel in any two of those 3 seasons. By excel, I think I mean one loss in OOC, top 4 finish in BE and BE tourney and Elite 8 in NCAAs. So I'd be OK with a rough start and the other stuff falls into place.

I agree with Boz what's the point of following a team if you're not going to have fun. I can't go into any game thinking we're going to lose. Every year the Goal is to win the Big East and at least reach the second weekend.

I always get my hopes up, makes the season more fun. Also every year that JT3 has been coach (except maybe the first season), there were games the Hoyas played like the best team in the country. So its not like its totally unearned. When JT3 has the boys clicking they play the best basketball in the country.

I'm normally a glass half-full cynical pessimist who describes himself as simply a realist, but with that said...
I am SOOOOO excited to see the Hoyas come out and exceed even the highest expectations. We may lose some tough games early in the OOC and/or BE but I think the Hoyas will outright DOMINATE come the latter half of the BE season BET and NCAA's.
So in other words, there's no better time to book the early bird special on the NON-STOP EXPRESS TRAIN TO MEGAFANLAND!!!

All this team needs is a true leader, something we haven't had in a few years. That could be Austin or Chris or even Julian. We need someone to be PE2 this year.

Lic, you keep writing how JV will surprise and I hope you're right. He certainly has the opportunity. If he does surprise, we will go a long way, the media will harp on his improvement and JT3 will have h.s. bigs knocking at this door.

Sky could not be more right. Chemistry, leadership, call it what you like. Since Jeff left this team has lacked any of that. No identity, no chemistry, no leadership and all of the talent in the world will not make a winning team. I really wonder if JT III is thinking more carefully about that aspect of recruiting based upon the last several years.

I think Chris is a born leader and Austin leads by example. I'm not worried about leadership at all.

The idea of senior leadership isn't an idle or meaningless concept. Just like you can't teach height, you can't teach maturity and experience. Do you remember how you changed from an 18 to 21 year old? Add that to years of experience in the system. Behind Austin Chris and Julian, they are studs and the year will be great.
Different thread, but prayers to Charles Smith. My hopes are up because terrible sh*t happens without warning and you better seize and enjoy the moment.

if we remember julian could score pretty much at will when he was played one on one in the post....his issue was conditioning and staying in the game rather than ability. Since he has reportedly been working hard on the conditioning aspect...we should be fine

I agree with the first post to the extent that we often didn't show up to games LY or only showed up for one half of basketball. When we played with intensity for a full 40 minutes, we could beat and did beat the best teams in the country. Strangely however, we easily could have finished below 500 in conference had Freeman not had a couple of superhuman halves of bball.
This all being said, if we fix this one aspect of our game and play with the type of intensity we played with in the BE tournament....then we have a lot to look forward to and my expectations will be high for this team.

I've got high hopes for this season. I remember thinking that last year was the year to hang upon and didn't think we could be back without Monroe. But after an offseason of brooding and dreading that green team from Ohio, I feel extremely confident in this team. Best team in the country? No (not yet at least); but a team that can work and grind out win after win, I definitely believe so. Chris and Austin have been through the ups and downs of several season, and our incoming freshmen (from what I've heard) are good and should get better through time. I think we're well balanced and we have a STRONG backcourt, and hopefully a decent frontcourt. While I am usually one to have way too high of expectations, I expect this to be a solid and fun year and most importantly, a successful year. Let's Go Hoyas!

What's the point of this thread? Let the negativity start before the season even commences...
It's like the Jessie Sapp thread that was started. Pointless. That kid played hard (and I'm biased because he's one of my favorite Hoyas). And Jessie just posted on facebook that he is "speechless" and thinks it's "crazy my hoya fans feel that way". Near the end of his message, he writes "some things I just chose not to speak on".
I really don't understand the point of some of these threads (it's one thing to spew negative comments when you're caught up in the moment of a loss - I know I have - it's another thing to say you aren't getting your hopes up before the season even starts. And it's quite another thing to bash Jessie (or Dajuan or any other Hoya) a couple years after they left the hilltop).
